Wooohaaa ... that "new" engine fitting like it does ... that's what I call "being lucky" !!! Sust a pity that you won't be able to use that real "vario". Excellent job, sir.

You look like a "Shriner" ... can't wait to see how the glass polishes up. "Heat Shield" can help on the muffler ... "Red Adair" stuff.

1:02:55 - I wonder if those springs on the front bolts of the engine's base plate aren't the chain adjusters. Just think about it: you unscrew the bolts, the springs make the plate tilt back by rotating it on those rear bearings and the chain gets tensioned while the springs' tension keep the plate tight to the screws. This way you don't have to move the engine back and forth on the plate's slots, making it easier to center it with the hole. 🙂

Are the two springs to tilt up for chain tensioning ¿.

The go cart my Dad built for me is very similar to this. We tried engines : 21/2 hp 2 cycle (nope) 21/2 hp 4cyc Briggs (nope) settled on a 51/2 hp Briggs. We put the brake on the other side of the live axle. Dad built rack and pinion steering. If I can find your email I’ll send you a couple of pictures.

engine swaps are just one modification after another. each one with its own compromise. their sum if looked at in total is rarely worth it, especially for this project. i'd just fix or find a suitable substitute for the original engine.

GO VINTAGE with a flathead. Maybe hone the cylinder on the old 3.5 HP Tecumseh and refresh the valves but I think the diaphragm carb is the main issue
@stans5270
@stans5270 28 минут бұрын
Hey Mustie - when you try to remove the rubber diaphragm from pump, start away from the bolt holes. Where the bolt holes are is the tightest that gasket would be, and the hardest to remove.

Loosen the springs in front and it should lift the front of the engine and tighten the chain..

The brackets on the sides are for a canopy. Some also had a box on the back and there was even a pick-up version.

Leaking head gasket means no compression and no compression means no power. No power reduces vehicle payload or performance. But, you know that!

I really don't understand why you don't replace the head gasket, torque the head bolts, clean up the valves and seats and do a compression test. You reused a head gasket and can see smoke escaping and then wondering why the engine won't run correctly. You are giving up WAY too fast for the old engine, at least going by what is shown in the video at least at the 54:00 mark.

Totally agree. I groaned as soon as he shifted to "Predator 212" which seems to be everyone's answer these days. I was pleased the Tecumseh came back to life though--seems the head gasket seated itself. Mustie needs to collect more "free pile" or yardsale Tecumsehs, that is for sure

new engine looks perfect with the style. If bothered by the new look of the engine I would just weather the gastank and air intake or swap out with something old.

Muskie if you have to reuse a head gasket you can use copper paint to help it seal

They were designed to be reused, at least a few times, as scraping carbon buildup off the head is part of routine maintenance.
