Thanks for this video. Question. I have to make about 60 of these cross lap joints at 60 degrees. Would you recommend doing it on the tablesaw or making a jig and using a router? Which way would be the easiest and least amount of time. Thanks.
@NorthwestCraftsmanКүн бұрын
Glad you liked it! And wow that’s a lot. How long are the pieces you need to cross lap? If they’re longer than can be reasonably managed on the table saw with a dado stack, I would use the router. If they’re short enough to handle on the table, saw, I would use it. I may also see if you can clamp all your pieces together to cut the cross laps for one spot in one or two passes. This should be possible with either method.

Can you pipe your dust catcher outside?
@NorthwestCraftsman2 күн бұрын
You can, the issue you’ll run into is replacement air. If you’re fine pulling in outside air, absolutely. Just give yourself one of those passive dryer vents pointing into your shop. If you condition the air in your shop (hotter or colder) then getting a filter and dumping back into your shop is the best bet.

Unfortunately I don’t think I’m going to be much help as mine is both a different model or at least has a different tensioning knob and I haven’t disassembled down to that level before. That being said, the way it’s moving makes me think you might be missing a nut or are uncoupled from the threads at the base of your tension adjustment rod. It’s probably worth doing what you suggested (removing the wheel) to take a deeper look at the mechanism behind. If not requires pulling that bearing, I may do some more troubleshooting from the outside.

Not impressed at all by mine. I had to sand the rule down because it was way too tight to slide through the gauge smoothly, and still had to lock the rule down with a zip tie because the spring isn't strong enough to keep it down when raising the head. Also the frame doesn't fit the DW735 well and bends it when screwing it down. I had to put spacers behind it. When I finallt got it installed, it was .5 off when I zeroed it off and had to adjust it, so I'm not confident in its accuracy as board thickness increases. I should have paid less and bought the iGaging
@NorthwestCraftsman29 күн бұрын
Shoot! I’m sorry to hear that. I know that I’ve seen some feedback regarding it being tight. In fact, I had that happen on mine as well. I tried reinstalling it and all of the spacing worked out properly. Not sure if this is what happened with yours as well but it may be worth a shot

Hi very nice presentation. I have a 13 inch dewalt thickness planer. Let’s say I have three pieces of 2X4 and each one them is 2-7/16 , 2-3/8, and 2-5/16 how do I make all three of them being 2-5/16 without manually measuring them. I appreciate your input. Thanks
@NorthwestCraftsman29 күн бұрын
Hey! Not a problem, that's a great question. I was actually doing something similar in my shop tonight. If you don't have to be exactly 2-5/16 but can be a hair shy, I'd put that first piece up to the mouth and lower it down until you just barely see the gauge move. Run it through the planer and you should hear barely any material being removed. If you didn't hear anything, move it down a hair and run it again. Once you have this height set, run the rest through; it shouldn't have any issues taking off that amount on 2x4's. I have it now as a standard practice when dimensioning to finish all my parts that need to be the same thickness with one final pass to ensure all of them are exactly the same thickness. Also, if you need both sides to be planed to create a nice face, you'll repeat this on the back for all of your pieces. This second pass should be the same amount of removal for each piece since you made them all the same thickness in the first step. Good luck! Josh Northwest Craftsman

@NorthwestCraftsmanАй бұрын
You could run a copper wire through it but you'll need to make sure it's grounded. This is no statement of authority, I've just never heard of a dust collection explosion in a hobbyist shop which is why I never grounded my system. If you're worries about it, it'd be pretty easy to help drain the charge. On the note of putting the dust collector outside of the working space, you'll need to find a way to provide the "make-up" air. Since the DC is pulling all of its air from the work space and pushing it out in another, the air in the work space needs to be "made up". I've seen some folks just put an external vent in their shop for this.
