Thanks for the review, this is very helpful. I had experienced bought a chinese (lightdow brand) mirror lens from e-bay, the result was very disappointing I give rating 3 (1-10). although not all cheap products are always bad, after watching your review I'd probably spend more to get Yongnuo instead of Meike.

This is one of the best explanation videos I’ve ever seen on KZbin, any genre. The amount of details and real-world application along with analogies was perfect. I’m a photographer interested in video and I’ve seen about 10-15 videos already on file types, and I finally feel like I have a good idea of what will meet my needs the best. Thank you so much!

Good job 'handling' these in this review. You should study law you would make a great litigator. I will stick with my (Yes)Nikkor lenses.

Thanks again for such an honest, straightforward review. My favourite of my vintage lenses is my Nikkor AIS 50mm f1.2. It renders really special portraits and some landscapes too, as you say not crisp and tack sharp. However, if stopped down to f2.8 or so it seems as sharp as my Z mount 50mm f1.8 S .
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 7 сағат бұрын
Oh i love my AIS 50 1.2 too!! Really love the rendering of that lens despite it is also far from a perfect lens as well. I think the flaws are really what makes a lens special

Thank you for the great review!! I have a few Ai-s lenses, including the same 50mm f/1.8 (Japanese version) you have, and you are correct; the large lens mount adapters very much change the look of the camera (not in a good way). I prefer Voigtlander M-Mount lenses when I adapter to mirrorless due to the much shorter flange distance. I keep my Ai-s lenses for my FM3a, but I will keep these Artralab lenses in mind for my Fuji XT cameras.

Yes. M mount lenses in general are much better than SLR/DSLR lenses when adapting to mirrorless if size/look is important

A comparison of the Nonikkor 35/1.4 with Nikon's legendary 35/1.4 Ai-S would have been fun. I actually think the original Nikkor might have performed better considering how much astigmatism there was already in the DX corners on the Nonikkor, although the over-corrected spherical aberration (evidenced by both the focus shift and the outlining of bokeh behind the place of focus) on-axis might be similar between the two. Regarding focus shift, at least with mirrorless cameras we can focus at taking apertures without having an impossibly dark viewfinder. Could you say which direction the focal plane curves for the 35/1.4, is it regular/petzval/towards the lens, or reverse/away from the lens? Regular is better than reverse. The triangular bokeh in the corners of the 24/1.7 is primarily because of astigmatism, mixed with the high levels of optical vignetting which truncates them. The focus ring for the 24/1.7 looks a bit cheap and plasticy, not like the nice rubber of the original Nikkors, or even the 35/1.4. Are the markings on both lenses engraved and filled, or only printed? They look printed to me, which is not very premium or authentic. The markings are also the wrong colours, the minimum aperture should be orange, not blue or red. Good review once again Richard.

Yes Great idea! I would love to compare it with 35 1.4 Ai-S. Re directional of focal plane curves, I'm not sure. I would need to do a bit of testing to find out. The markings I believe are laser etched then painted. Thanks for watching once again and sharing your thoughts and observations!

yes. I wish Nikon will release some Z lenses with aperture ring. That is one important thing missing from their 28 40 SE lenses.

I watched review of these lenses previously from red35 and someone else I forgot the name, those reviews are more like an paid ad and gloss over all the obvious flaws. I have been waiting for a real review and I'm really glad you did this review. I really understand the pros and cons. I like the flaws or characters as you said. Thanks Richard!

I would like to see Viltrox 1.7/56 instead of 1.4/56 for the fair comparison
@TheRealRichardWong
@TheRealRichardWong 20 сағат бұрын
Yes I agree. The reason I didn't compare with the viltrox 56 1.7 is because this review was created a few months before the 1.7 viltrox announcement. Quite often we have product reviews done and uploaded but have to wait for months before the product is announced

I used mine at an outdoor event shoot on the weekend, mounted on a Fuji X-Pro2 with a Zhong Yi focal reducer. It was very enjoyable to shoot (i shoot manual focus lenses quite a lot, so no issue there). There were some great shots amongst the hundreds I shot, so I'll be using it often ...

@@TheRealRichardWong Thanks for your feedback. I love small cameras and the sensor is certainly a great added value. But the large battery of the X-S20 is phenomenal. I think the movie simulations are fantastic, but would always regret it if I chose the wrong simulation at the wrong moment. I think the control dial is fantastic and cute. It's a tough decision. The price doesn't matter. Great Video.

Thanks. Have the LM-EA7 adapter and was wondering if I should upgrade. I don’t mind the noise, so I think I’ll just keep using the LM-EA7. I don’t think either of them would ever be fast enough for moving subjects, anyway, and the LM-EA7 works good enough for stationary objects/people.

Thanks for this great review - I was considering the Viltrox and the Sirui previously - I bought the TTartisan version on a whim last week. To test it out I took some portraits of my cats and dog and took some shots of flowers outside my home. I think the minimum focus distance is still too long but overall I really like the lens and I'll be taking it with me when I do some street photography in NYC nest week along with my Sigma 18-50mm f2.8 which is a lens I love - at 18mm it can be used as a macro lens - the bokeh is great and the minimum focus distance of the Sigma at 18mm is about an inch believe it or not. I enjoyed your review and you also have a new subscriber.

Tilta is great except that they on the full cage version didnt put full length nato rail up top… so the top handle either needs to be off center, or one that mounds with cold shoe not nato rail. If it had full length nato on top with 3/8th locating mount it would be perfect.

The S9 is an S5 ii in miniature for video shooting. Great! This lens, however, is useless for video, since you cannot put an nd filter on it, whatever its other characteristics. I am eligible to get the lens for free. I am willing to sell it brand new and untouched for $100. Any takers? Btw, the Sigma 45mm f2.8 is the perfect kit lens for the S9. It was given away free with the S5. I am not selling that.

Could you please provide information on whether there is any option in X2 to mark clips with a marker during recording? The idea is to use the MARK CLIP function, just like in previous versions of reporter cameras. This way, the "good clips" would be visible when importing clips into Adobe Premiere Pro. Please help if anyone knows how to do this.
