The 56mm f1.7mm is such insane value in a compact package. awesome video as usual Richard!

Nice review ! That 56mm f1.7 is incredible for the price, but I still think the old 56mm f1.4 is better value overall, it's possible to find it at good price.

It's all a compromise. It depends on whether one shoots a lot at f1.4 - f2.8 or more commonly (like me) in the range f4 -f8 where there is no difference between the two lenses. If I did not already have the 56mm f.4, I would choose this f1.7 model as I value the smaller form factor more than the slightly better fast aperture performance of the f1.4.

@@TheRealRichardWong On 2nd thought, I've seen other reviews with not-so-bad wide-open aperture sharpness... If you could post a link where we can check the raw files of portrait photos shot on 1.7 - then you'd be the best camera reviewer ever!!!!! :)

Having a hard time deciding what’s for me between the Viltrox 56mm 1.4 and the 85mm 1.8. I’m a beginner that’s into street photo but I want to take pictures of my friends and do portraits and my kit lens is the 15-45mm from my xt200. Any input I would GREATLY appreciate!!!

I am curious to their lens hood, could the f1.7 version use the lens hood on f1.4 version😂. My nephew recently broke that and I ‘m wondering if that could work because it’s not easy to get another one here in Taiwan. But I noticed that they both have the filter size of 52mm and also made by viltrox. The lens hood for f1.4 are sell in viltrox Taiwan for sure 😂

The "all metal construction" meme is pretty much a red herring. When you have a lens construction that is made out of all Aluminum, you have a huge CTE [coefficient of thermal expansion] mismatch between the "all metal construction" and the glass elements of the optics. Weird things can happen with temperature changes in the environment where/when you are shooting. I live in the Sonoran Desert. The all metal lenses can be a problem shooting in the hottest part of the Summer. Glass-filled composite plastics used in the construction of precision things like camera lenses have a CTE that better matches the CTE of the glass in the optics. - I've not seen many KZbin lens reviews that take design intent and materials science finesse into consideration when it comes to the functional engineering of the lenses.

villtrox 56 1.7 better than sigma 56 1.4 on CA aspect? or autofocus and sharpness ?

Yeah indoor or in shades wide open it was alright, but outside on sunny days had to stop down to f2.8 to make them disappear or shoot in B&W. Would be nice if they make a mark II of the 23/33/56 with the same good CA control of their newest lens.
