I imagined Rain as Vessel ingratiating himself in a new cycle, as rain itself is part of a cycle. All though I don't think it's a new love interest, but I do think it is in relation to someone in his life that gives him hope which will continually "rain down" on Vessel. To wash the salt from his time in the ocean (TPWBYT) to rid himself from the cycle of loneliness

The angel of death is very much related in a biblical sense to Adam and Eve, as them being casted out of Eden, Eve eating the forbidden fruit, as a serpent told her too. ( rain - coiled up, tangled in a trance.) The angel armed with a sword of fire, also has a apple in other hand. This figure angel prevent their return to Eden in the bible. An apple is also seen early on in their music vid for Thread the needle . I’m beginning to wonder if Vessel uses these types of biblical or other references as inspiration to draw upon, as the base layer for his song writing, then projects them onto real life situations or emotions that us the listeners can relate to. Maybe he has also been through things himself, that we will never really know. Sleep might just be his shadow self, or vice versa, an inner struggle with himself and maybe how he has been treated or treated others. Hence him needing to be someone new, redeeming himself to get back into Eden. Just my thoughts. Great video :)

I wonder if there is any connection between the songs Mine and Rain. Both start with similar lyrics that depict nigh on identical situations. Both start with a depiction of waiting and being stuck or immobilised. Mine: I have waited Paralyzed by my own will Rain: For so long, I have waited So long that I almost became Just a stoic statue,

Idk if you fell down the rabbit hole of the members past before SleepToken but this makes a lot of sense. In videos before Vessel was…well Vessel. He had another group (won’t be named) but in their songs there was a woman singing with him in a lot of their songs and she is also in videos with him. Could be the past relationship that brought him heartbreak that manifested Vessel and SleepToken?

It makes me happy you interpret the song also as a potential new lover. I also noticed the missing reference of gender. He sings a lot about she/ her in other songs, but not in this one.
@innanussman43882 күн бұрын
That was actually my theory... But I often refused from it several times. But then again I get to the idea that he is bisexual or something, because in his first interview he calls SLEEP as HIM.
@alextamulis2 күн бұрын
That's true, thank you for sharing your ideas, MissesFateful! Verse 1 is (in my opinion) clearly pointing to that idea of "someone new". It's great to see that you also share the same point of view. It doesn't mean it's the correct one, but the way the words were chosen certainly leads us to that path. As a reader, I always try to find a cohesive and coherent pattern coming from the umbrella of ideas that the writer has presented us with. Is this his intention? We'll probably never know. But the creative expression of that piece of art certainly has avenues for us to explore and that's one of them. :)

I think I've seen people in the past when TMBTE was released decode it as the poem about Vessel as the teeth of God - “I am hunting something and in turn that same thing is hunting me. The beholder, the void beyond. I am the line between. I am the teeth of God” :)

Fantastic interpretations. 1. I just noticed that the lower appendages of the "Take Me Back to Eden" guardian are the same as the "Vore" guardian. 2. My favorite fan interpretation of "Are You Really OK?" is that it's sung by Vessel's mother to him after witnessing a lot of self-harm (or at least noticing that he's not well). There's a feeling of previous intimacy but that isn't as close as before. It ties into the umbilical imagery of that guardian, the fetus isn't being borne inside of her, it's distant (outside the body in another container).
@OzLovell4 күн бұрын
Came here to say the mother theory as well, I mean it just fits so well. Listening to Vessels previous project, it appears his mother wasn't particulalry great
@alextamulis4 күн бұрын
Wow, fantastic insights, Keith! I totally share your view. When I first noticed the umbilical cord, I thought about a motherly figure too. The idea of nurturing and mothering, along with self birthing a dangerous being inside of us, has always been present in my interpretations. Great observation about the appendages! The connection between the guardians is fascinating. Your favorite interpretation of "Are You Really OK?" being sung by Vessel's mother resonates deeply. The imagery of the fetus outside the body ties in perfectly with the song's themes. I ca't even fathom how much attention to details has been dedicated, and it's mesmerizing and rewarding to watch a band and their passion for creative expression. Thank you for sharing your thoughts! Let's keep exploring these layers together.

I think there are a lot of interesting theories on what it could be in terms of lore, but the reason why they chose six eyes for the mask is actually mundane. Unfortunately I can't get into that
@alextamulis3 күн бұрын
That's very likely, Alex, but I pointed out in the description, I discarded "functional and aesthetic reasons" - if we consider lore-oriented stuff, these were the ones I was mostly interested in :)

What makes Sleep Token so obsessing is this whole mystery around their lyrics, their origins and around this kind of universe they created, and I love how you try to explain all this and to bring us more knowledge about them. These creatures have been a big question for me since the release of TMBTE so thanks for that. All the theories we can create about this band contribute to the whole experience of Sleep Token and you help a lot with that.

Something I mentioned when the first singles were released with the characters, is that they also look like representations of each of the band members. Chokehold- iii or the bassist the Summoning- Vessel, as seen from his stage wardrobe, Granite- ii with the double axes like drum sticks (also wears a double axe necklace) and Aqua Regia- iv or guitarist with the character having 7 total strings. Just another way to look at it! As always, love your videos!

The first time i listened to this song i liked a lot but didn't dig in at all into the lyrics, but after the loss of my dad last december, and later and recent break up of a 6 years relationship the song took a whole meaning by itself. I cannot describe the pain and nostalgia this song brings to me. The quote "Let the tides carry you back to me, the past, the future through death" instantly gets me and i start sobbing almost every time i listen to this song. Now i can understand his meaning, but i hope i didn't, yk
