Thank you very much for sharing that with us. I appreciate how open you are with your personal internal thoughts, and if I may, I’d like to share some ideas I have about your dream, assuming it’s an actual dream. I know you haven’t directly asked for help or interpretation but are simply sharing it. However, sharing it might suggest an interest in its meaning, and I wanted to acknowledge that by offering some thoughts. Assuming this is a real dream, possible interpretation: 1. "Reception-Party" could mean a "party" of people receiving something from you, like a message, entertainment, or this very dream. This part of the dream could represent your future self telling this dream to other people, for all we know. 2. Some people appreciate your style, but older people in the dream did not, which seems to imply that your style is not "old fashioned." This may be appealing to some and not others, showing how individuality resonates differently depending on perspective. 3. You are loved by the bride and groom and DJ, meaning the majority of people are vibing to your tune. Although it’s not "about you," there’s a sense in which you are taking center stage in people’s perception, possibly because of the KZbin platform. 4. As you try to get loose and do a stunt on stage, you fall down into a dark area through a "trapdoor," which could be a word of caution or warning that there may be something in the "non-old-fashioned-style" that carries a risk, "a trap," to cause you to stumble publicly. It may seem embarrassing, but people will care for you and your well-being, showing that people favor you on your channel. 5. As you recover from the fall and "join the party" again, that "risk" still remains. The looser you dance, the more there seems to be a risk of falling through the trapdoor. Interestingly, the only person being affected by the door is you, not the people in the party. I don’t know what that means. It seems like a loving warning of some sort, and my assumption is that it has to do with one’s values, especially because of the elderly people who did not approve. Age can represent "wisdom" along with old-fashioned values, suggesting that perhaps some areas of your style deviate from this. It is original and loved by others because it is unique and personable, with character that makes it relatable. However, what makes something genuinely good is how much it aligns with what is ultimately true. Based on this, I guess the question could be: How closely does your outlook or style draw you closer to the ultimate truth? What is the purpose of life? Does God exist? How can I know this if it were true? Where will I go when I die? There could be many existentially significant questions that are deep and profound, which often escape our reasoning in our day-to-day lives. Maybe this dream can, in some way, be an indirect call to reflect on these questions. Living life outside of that context could distract from what is true, and "pain" is an indicator that something requires one’s attention. Anyway, that’s my take on it. I hope my comment comes off as reasonable, open-minded, and helpful. Thank you again for sharing such an interesting dream.

You're a great storyteller! I was along for the ride, no matter how incredulous it sounded. 😂 I'm surprised you caught me. I accustomed to these wild tales, and can usually spot them. I guess you caught me by surprise, because I didn't expect it from you. I'm glad it was only a bizarre dream; and I love, love, love dreams. I love telling my dreams and hearing others. They're fascinating to me. Yes, you had me until you stretched your hand to your marque. 🤣This was fun! Ooooo..... you just gave me an idea for my blog, once I finally get it going. After all, it's called Joy's Rabbit Hole, why not be really bizarre and include a category for dreams just for the sake of entertainment.

No matter what I try I cannot recreate how you did this. They must of changed how all of this works. I can't tell if you're clipping, using a mask, etc. I can't even get the threshold to do what you're doing on a damn rasterized image? I figured it out. If your text is monotone then this will not work. I have absolutely no idea how you got this to work, maybe it was a mistake in how Affinity calculates the colors in threshold? Basically, in order to get this to work you could add an FX layer with inner glow of whatever color you want but I'd use white with a low intensity. Then it works.
@DaveConrey25 күн бұрын
So this was done with version 1 where there were more glitches with the filters and adjustments. I probably couldn't replicate this effect either now.

My book has very high resolution full page color spreads at the book size 11x 8.25 inches. I'm working on pixel resolution of 5025 x3375 (includes bleed) for the full page spreads in Photoshop. I'm really confused as what I'm suppose to do when exporting-especially when it comes to reducing the file size. I'm doing my comps in Photoshop and assembling/formatting in Affinity Publisher. Any guidance would be really awesome.
@DaveConreyАй бұрын
Without being able to see what you're doing, the best advice I can offer is to look at the export settings of the PDF, specifically the part around image resolution. With images so large, you might be able to take the image resolution down a notch or two. If you try this, make sure to test the print before sending the file off to make sure the results are up to spec.

@DaveConrey2 ай бұрын
It might be the settings you used for the PDF. If you're looking for it to be an e-book, PDF is not the best format. It's much better to take your doc and convert it to Epub format. If you just want to have the PDF pages published as seen on screen, you may need to embed all type and images. This will make the file very large, but that's the only way to keep the text from getting wonky.

Ha ha, as a former employee of Serif, I could have told you back in 2016 that this would happen in the future (Canva was a surprise choice though). That was the year that Serif lost all integrity and started to think only in terms of greed. The original team of designers, who bent over backwards working on Affinity and giving it its first face, assets and even name, were unceremoniously booted out and shortly afterwards, Serif won the Apple Award and the managers started being spotted driving around the grubby little industrial estate their dark, windowless tin building is situated in, in vulgar sports cars. Serif do not care about design. They do not care about creative professionals. They do not have any integrity. They only care about money.

Sorry, but you made a small rookie mistake, the guy that sent the file did not tell you where the baseline was in that line. Normally, it is treated as the centre line of the object unless otherwise indicated. So, you are explaining where the centre line might be and therefore having different results in your measurements. Finally, you were right to indicate that he had some alignment issues in his drawing, hence the possible mismatch.

Aaron is an awesome human, and a brilliant identity designer, but like all of us, he has some weaker areas and strengths. I was a bit let down by the design of his book as well as the copy editing. The layout was jam packed with not enough white space and the copy was littered with errors. Even the most famous of designers are just humans like the rest of us, with assets and defects. It's really Aaron's ethos that I think makes him so popular. Being unpretentious and grateful to do what we do for a living..."moving our little mouse finger" as he puts it.

Remember Dave, many artists of old failed because they lack the capital to promote their work. The moment an artist/designer brings something to market, they enter a competitive environment and capital becomes pretty much the most important factor. And with creative work becoming so voluminous, capital is today more important than ever. Good luck.
