Hi Dave, I’ve had quite a few books printed with various print companies. Virtually all of them WILL NOT PRINT PDF FILES LAID OUT AS SPREADS. Apparently digital presses treat each page as a separate image, with a bleed round all four sides. So when I create books now, I un-check the facing pages option in the new document panel. As a result, I only ever lay books and booklets out as separate pages. You can still work in the document as ‘spreads’ if you need to, by going into; FILE > Document Setup and checking the ‘Facing Pages’ box in the MODEL tab. Just remember to go back and un-check it before you export to pdf. The only problem you get when working in pages rather than spreads is that you can not easily lay-out graphics that spread over two pages. It can be done but only by creating duplicate picture frames on each page and lining up the image manually and considering your bleed. I think the amazon system is literally cutting your spreads in two and that is why you are getting over-bleed from another page. I hope this helps. Mikey

Exactly. If I don't uncheck Facing Pages, the printer will bounce my file right back at me. Face it, printing is a manufacturing process and your file must conform to it.

This is probably because they do not have experienced pre-press people in the shop anymore. The pagination duties used to belong to them.

Your comment is a damned sight more useful than his rambling video about NOTHING! I know KZbin likes a video of a certain length, but these people who reach that length by disorganized rambling drive me up the wall.

Where's the update on the inside of the bleed? I look through your entire video library trying to find out. If you How do you do your print because of the extension of your bleed on the inside of the page? I've been trying to make some coloring books from my KZbin channel. The format is similar to what you've talked about. But I keep getting my. Coloring books kick back from KDP.. And I think it's due to bleed issues. If you can do an update video and just kind of. Close out that topic.

Hey Dave do the bleed in the book work or overlaps and you did get that white line?

This is something I’m questioning after the fact. I need to look at my previous book file to see how it laid out. Update soon.

Hi Dave, do you have any video discussing how to make an academic book in affinity publisher? If not, would you be able to do a video discussing how to make an academic book with footnotes, an index so on. Thanks

Sorry, late to reply here, and unfortunately, I do not have any videos like that.

wow so much to it that I think I'd rather just pay someone to put it on Amazon hahaha I was told that Amazon also has their own fonts that must be used. One thing that I was told about copyright your work is send it to yourself as registered mail and don't open it. since it has the date on it and is sealed courts would also honor it. always look forward to you sharing your thoughts, till next time ;)

For print books, you can use whichever fonts you want. The ebooks have default fonts but that’s en entirely different animal as far as publishing

Hello Dave, I published a comedy called 5 X 7 on Amazon about 4 years ago (578 pages) and was astonished at their minimum selling price! It was £10.98 ($13.37). Nobody would spend that much on a paperback! This meant if I sold it for £10.99 I'd make 1p profit ! The Amazon charge was 1 p per page + about £5 for them storing it on their servers. I've written a series of children's books and was thinking of using Affinity Publisher to produce them. Any future videos would be most welcome.

You are going to have to go to a real printer and get bulk printing if you actually want to make any money on margins like that. It’s probably too many pages for print on demand and 10$ is too little in this market. Print on demand is for convenience but it is not a way to make a profit unless you already have an audience, or you bump up your price considerably above the minimum
@DaveConrey2 жыл бұрын
One thing you have to keep in mind is that Amazon’s paperbacks are not a standard paperback, but a more high-quality print. Most standard paperbacks are printed on offset paper, while an Amazon book is printed on much better paper.
@ghouling11112 жыл бұрын
I would pay that much on a paper back. It's a limiting thought they wouldn't. It's how you market the value YOU put in the book. Don't under sell yourself
@l0rdcroissant2 жыл бұрын
so I was just wondering if one wants to write books either for print or for online, publisher should be used.
@DaveConrey2 жыл бұрын
For print, yes, a good option, but for ebooks, there are better ways. Publisher cannot output for any ebook formats currently.

I'm in the process of making an Illustrated Novel that will have several full page spreads. The book will be over 200 pages and all images are hi res. Is KDP up to the task-what pitfalls do you think I might face?
@DaveConrey Жыл бұрын
This is actually a timely topic because I am struggling to get an art book published with KDP. The struggle I’m personally having is that I use typography as art elements in much of my work and the quality control people who look over all the manuscripts can’t wrap their heads around that idea that not all text needs to be legible. Also, and this will likely be the biggest sticking point, but your entire document (cover and manuscript combined) must be no larger than 650 mb. Depending on the size of the book and the size of the files in the manuscript, they might reject it if the file is too big.
@ZephrusPrime Жыл бұрын
@@DaveConrey Thanks for the insight. I hadn't realized that the limit size was only 650 mb until I saw this video. That really does make it hard to have any sizable content with art. Let alone the 4k images I was planning.
