2nd floor clog in the bathtub. Running an auger down the bathtub drain does nothing. Run the auger about 8-9 feet down the pipe below the bathroom sink in the same bathroom removes the clog. Have to auger it once a year. Now it’s backed up but it takes time to back up. Can take a shower for 4-5 minutes before the water starts pooling in the tub. Still drains though it is slower l and when I am done showering take barely over a minute to drain. Not backing as far as I can tell in the the first floor bathroom which is immediately below. Plumber wants to literally demolish the entire bathroom, rip out the walls and tub in both bathrooms. $12,000. Not including the thousands I would have to pay remodeling. I don’t bother with them. These are the same plumbers when he checked all the valves that are under the faucets and toilets that all 12 are frozen and to pay him $3,100 to replace them all. I simply unfroze 10 of them using a plumbers wrench. Three needed to be replaced but I did them myself. Only one gave me trouble due to how cramped it was.

You have to use boiling hot water first and then boiling hot water after you put in the baking soda and vinegar. Instructions from Liquidplumr website: *4 STEPS TO UNCLOG YOUR DRAIN WITH BAKING SODA & VINEGAR* Follow these easy steps to unclog your drain: *STEP 1:* Start by pouring a pot of boiling water down the drain. *STEP 2:* Next, pour a cup of baking soda and 1 cup water/1 cup vinegar solution. *STEP 3:* Cover with the drain plug and wait 5 to 10 minutes. *STEP 4:* Pour boiling water down the drain again. The bubbling reaction from the baking soda and vinegar helps to loosen the drain clog, and the boiling water in step 4 helps remove it from your pipes.

Vinegar and Baking Soda works as a drain cleaner. Specifically from the drain it's self down to the P-Trap. Merely to minimize build up and odors in the open air part of the drain. Not as a clog remover. Therefore the content of this video dose not match the Title :|

Ok, judging from the comments here it appears that many people have found success using baking soda and vinegar. But my question is different: does baking soda and vinegar damage cast iron piping?
@balkanplumbingАй бұрын
Well vinegar is acidic and combining the two does create salt. Both those things hurt pipes. But I’m not really sure, because how frequently are you introducing those into your pipes anyway? Hard for me to say.
@maninthemiddle55Ай бұрын
@@balkanplumbing Thanks for the timely response. I may have answered my own question, from the Wikipedia entry on rust: “Other degrading solutions are sulfur dioxide in water and carbon dioxide in water. Under these corrosive conditions, iron hydroxide species are formed. Unlike ferrous oxides, the hydroxides do not adhere to the bulk metal. As they form and flake off from the surface, fresh iron is exposed, and the corrosion process continues until either all of the iron is consumed or all of the oxygen, water, carbon dioxide or sulfur dioxide in the system are removed or consumed. When iron rusts, the oxides take up more volume than the original metal; this expansion can generate enormous forces, damaging structures made with iron.” So the carbon dioxide and hydroxides formed from the neutralization of the vinegar with baking soda can/will degrade iron pipe. Your question, about how often the baking soda/vinegar combination is used, is spot on. I’ll use it only occasionally but not more than absolutely necessary.

Is the pressure increased or decreased? According to bernoullis equation there should be a decrease?
@balkanplumbing2 ай бұрын
I think technically and counter intuitively, the speed of the water increases when leaving the pipe through a restriction (like a nozzle) but the pressure technically decreases. But, I’m not a scientist or an engineer!

You need to mix the baking soda with water so it gets around the clog. Plus add salt so you have some scrubbing action. Then heat the vinegar to boiling that we’ll help with the grease and pour away. EXCELLENT EXPLAINED. Your demonstration about how by having the same pressure from a source gives different amount of water flow, due to having more or less resistance in the line, is correct. What most people seem to be confused about is Bernoulli's equation. Let me explain about it. Many considerations are needed in order to apply Bernoulli's equation. But two are essential, one is applying it in a single streamline, and the other one is to a steady system. The last condition refers to that there can't be a change of properties in time, so the system needs to be constant. This last assumption doesn't apply here, where someone compare the before and after the thumb was placed. When it wasn't placed your thumb, the section of the hose is larger than the nozzle, so as people say, velocity is increased at the expense of pressure at the exit, but this also happens when you put the thumb, so why does someone see that the pressure increase in the pressure gauge in the last scenario?! That's because of the system curve!! Roughly explained, when you have water flowing it needs to go against obstacles, that would include, pressure diferences, new heights, bendings, rugosity, etc. All these things considered tell how much pressure you need to apply to generate a flow rate, so with more obstacles, we need to apply more pressure in order to keep moving a flow! That's why when you put your thumb, the pressure increased. You created and obstacle, so that translates to needing more presssure in order for the flow to circulate! This is the same as thinking that you need more pressure to reach the top of a 20 floor building than a 6 floor one. There is also the pump curve to go in depth!! It relates the amount of flow given by a pump at a certain pressure. When you have 0 flow (because it is totally restricted, as with a close valved), you have max pressure provided by your pump, but this is the opposite when there is no restriction! Max Flow with 0 pressure! There topics are confusing at first sight, so i encourage you to look for pump and systems curves! Hope i clarify you a bit.
@balkanplumbing2 ай бұрын
I think I understand better from your response. I was leaving out velocity. I was confusing pressure for velocity. Thank you!

Baking soda and vinegar are not used to clear a clog... It's more used to clean the open drains and keep them from clogging. I have never known any vinegar and baking soda to clear a clot. But to keep the drains open. Yes. I have never had a problem with that. You put the baking soda and vinegar in the drain and let it do its thing and after that, give it a hot water rinse. You should be fine after that, but to clear a clog,,,,,, no.
