Saw Henry speak live about 2 yrs ago and he had another story about someone trying to break into his house. It was funny as hell BUT the poor guy was a huge fan with a spectrum disorder. Tried to sneak onto Hank’s property about 3 times and eventually had to be deported back to Scandinavia. Henry expressed how truly bad he felt for the guy but the way he described those incidents had us all dying laughing.

And he's always said that he's not a comic. The audience's reaction is mostly staged, just the regular mindless show. I like Henry but he should stay away from the fake comedy. =)

Ever noticed how yt comments for Rollins stuff are almost entirely single comments, with relatively few replies and little interactive conversation.
@paul_henderson

Yeah I mean... I don't think yt was typically social media friendly til late 00s like there were many basic features missing (you can see how messy/missing comments and replies became when scrolling down in 00s videos beginning from like what 2005? So there was no way to ping anyone and instead all comments were kinda all over the place. But the vibe was incredibly way better back then and not just youtube. myspace and shit. People used to be way more social back in the day, even online.

@@paul_henderson I think also, despite the thought and insights contained in Rollins spoken word work, it can also come across like "shout TV" (I think that's the term") and as such it reinforces certain beliefs and encourages (or even causes) a level of insularity, thus reducing actual conversation. Idk it's complex... But I think by now his audience is "the converted" for the most part.

Hmmm… Rollins has always been a thinker. I guess he is pretty intelligent, but I think these tales work because he really thinks things through, works through them relentlessly as he is putting the show together and works to ensure balance, humour, pathos, and empathy are all in there. Not through pure creative genius or intellect. So, I’m not going to agree with all the comments about him being “the smartest” or “most intelligent” standup comedian/speaker cos I don’t think he is… I believe his stuff works so well/gives that impression because of his crazy work ethic. Doesn’t change the fact I really appreciate what he does, and generally his outlook on the world. The actual ‘smartest, most intelligent’ standup imho was Bill Hicks. That dude did his prep too for sure! However, he had a raw intellect, crazy quick witted manner of engaging unscripted when on stage i can’t remember ever seeing with someone else. The core of his genius was his way of looking at the world, tearing it apart, analysing each facet, then working out which bits of life were lies, hypocrisy, cliches etc And so which of these should be twisted/destroyed/laughed at/exposed so when he played these back to the audience it truly blew their mind/really made them think differently, or consider new perspectives. Sometimes very serious, sometimes crazy surreal, crude, compassionate etc. “Today a young man on acid had the best time of his life…. (Insert brilliant 35 year old insights on society, the war on drugs, commercialism and our learnt from media prejudices all slammed into about two sentences while taking down News Report utter hypocrisy)… Here’s Tom with the weather” Go see Rant in e Minor by him a couple of times. You may not agree with me still, but you will at least get turned onto a version of genius you will love till you die. Regardless; thanks for being you Rollins.

Rollin Band - "Low Self Opinion", has been in my head alllllll day long from the second i woke up. No reason, just random. So naturally i came to work and listened to it immediately when i sat down at my desk...and now im here watching this. So random that i think of Henry Rollins the second my eyes open. Great song tho. Perhaps i woke up with a low self opinion of myself. Im not quite sure.

I wonder ... why has neither Henry nor Danzig ever admitted to their profound love and closet longterm gay relationship ? Everybody from the old punk/hardcore/post punk scene is aware of this . Weird Henry does not admit it since I see him as a pretty sincere/honest bloke , why he keeps this a secret is beyond me. I have no problem with their mutual love for one another.
