So there's chicken poop and cow manure all over those fields: do you ever plow the fields or mow it? or harvest it for hay, etc? Or is it just a continual wild growth and then you let them feed on it.. Is there any other maintenance to the land, is my question?

I like how feeding the cows is just an after thought. lol.. The cows are just there to prepare the grass for the chickens; the fact that they get a meal out of the deal is just a bonus. ;)

Wondering about aerial predators - we have aggressive owl that will even go into a barn to get chickens. Obviously working for Polyface, Farm but how?

As other say above, scale down and move them more often. Depending on how small and the conditions though, you might have to bring in more inputs getting started to get the soil where it needs to be to make it sustainable.

Thank you from South Africa! Could you kindly inform what the size of the hoop house is accommodating a thousand hens/per 1,000. And I gather - a hundred roosters - for the three winter months. nealvaughn2340 comments these are Barred Rock fowls. What breed are the red ones? Give gas!

My third time to ask: What are the public health position on the pigs rooting corn out of the urine and feces filled biomass? I am thinking pig infection spread, to humans. All the major flu seasons used to start 8n Chinese pigs. I'm not sniping, Joel. I am positive this is a viable topic that can explain the safety of this practice. Good for a short video.

Good advice, The biggest hurdle where I'm located is competing in a saturated market. It's wise to position yourself near an urban area that has the populous to support a small farm operation .

This is way way bigger than this.. American architecture has people buying multiple story houses, lots of stairs, large lots w extensive landscaping, exterior materials that will require paint every 5-7 years, in some cases sooner, internet and other media telling old people that multiple family dwellings are more expensive than detached single family homes to maintain, homesteads often need extensive upkeep just for flatland and tree trimming and removal, road maintenance.. people often don't understand about defendable space and you can't have multiple acres of unmaintained land in most states without creating an immediate fire hazard to you and your dwelling. And people are in a . mindset where water is available to water lawn, wash vehicles and it's just a hose away from use. And when you have multiple acres and you don't get natural water, you have to maintain your plants and trees..
