I don’t care for hoods over the stove. It’s over the top. I like the microwave over the stove! I feel it is timeless!

Blue, green, white, and wood will never go out of style. Okay fine, we maybe get fatigued with specific shades, but the colors themselves have been popular since the modern kitchen became a thing. Right now I'm needing new cabinets. It's between sage green or pale blue bottom and white upper cabinets or all white. Ultimately it's getting overwhelming and I may just go all white because again, white never goes out of style.

I will never get tired of all white kitchens. If I do, I might add some colored light strips in strategic places.

Stained or natural wood cabinets. I’ve had both and don’t like painted wood. My favorite stain has been flint, a dark neutral. I won’t do brass fixtures. I’m over all the brass. I love creamy white walls throughout. I prefer a neutral base so I can use color to decorate and easily change.

I have the exact same cabinets with the bump, but in your space they look Early American, where in my space, they are painted and don't look Early American. I think that's interesting. My kitchen is vintage since the house was built in the 1940s. It's a tiny galley kitchen. I've been trying to figure out what, if anything, I want to do with it, but I think I will just paint. I already replaced the countertop with black suede granite and a countersunk stainless steel sink. I'm thinking the bottom cabinets will be "celery" and not sure about the top cabinets. Thanks for the interesting information!

Our counters are the same as the backsplash but the backsplash only goes up 8 inches beside the wall behind the stove which goes all the way up to the cabinets. I am uncertain what to do. I wish it went up to the cabinet. What can we do to the gap between the backsplash and cabinets?

I still like white kitchens because wood tones change from light to mid tone to dark and back. White cabinets stay white. However, although my cabinets are white, my walls and accessories have a lot of color.

Thanks for all the tips! Jusr moved in a 1950s small house with a small galley kitchen. All the walls in the home were painted alabaster SW. The kitchen only has cabinets on one side. They are older white color which actually looks closer to the alabaster. Im in thr planning stages of figuring out what i want, but i do want timeless, bright, neutral, natural. I can add pops of color. Flooring is an wide dark brown tile and i hsve the granite countertops. I can't see anything on them. Lol! I like a plain, almost solid color beige top or whitish top. For now, ill just spend the winter painting my current cabinets bright white. Then figure out if i can keep any of the older cabinets and just change out thr doors maybe while deciding on installing cabinets on the opposite side where the stove is. I'll probably do the over the stove microwave when i get to that side since counter space is limited. Thanks for the video, i subscribed to get more ideas. Im probably 3 years away from doing it unless i can do parts along the way.

I feel that whatever you choose needs to match the style of your home. For instance, I live in a log home which in my opinion, all white cabinets would look appalling in. Totally out of place. However, I love white cabinets in the right setting such as a farmhouse style of home. Cottage style homes look beautiful with painted cabinets in various colors. Though true it's all about what you love, unless it's your forever home, you should always keep resale value in mind when remodeling. Classic style never goes out of style, whereas trends tend to come and go very quickly, and who can afford to remodel every few years to keep up with the trends? Consider the style of your home and what would appeal to a sellers market when investing in remodeling.

Never go with what's currently in vogue because in 5 years it s out of style . The most hilarious part is how a color can be beautiful now and ugly in five years very scientifically based

I don’t want a trendy kitchen - I can’t be spending that much money every few years. These magazines and suppliers have to have something different to sell or they go out of business. You said it “the trend” which means it will be out of style soon. A white kitchen can be decorated so many ways and not so expensively. No new cabinets, countertops, etc. Maybe some new bar stools, drawer pulls, a faucet, even new lighting but replacing cabinets and countertops - No

I love Alabaster or Snowbound by Sherwin Williams I remember when I SO wanted granite in my kitchen. Didn’t ever put it in….now it is “out”. Now, after seeing so many styles come and go, I believe design in kitchens will always be changing!!! I’m getting ready to redesign my kitchen this coming year…. So I will be looking for what is “timeless” for me! What will I love forever? I want a cozy creamy kitchen♥️ It will be a pleasure to see what you do!! All the best to you.

Hi Penny, could you please come up with clips for clean, simple, and functional design? I don't really like to spend a lot of time dusting, cleaning, and maintaining pieces that don't have functions inside my house. I like your explanation and dupe pieces in your several clips.

Before you spend money ripping out your cabinets, paint a section. We did and now love the look. Saved thousands. My other suggestion is to keep your kitchen budget within the appropriate range for the value of your home. Over investing looks silly.

@ I am downsizing to a 1971 home. I am doing a kitchen remodel to the small dark kitchen. I Want custom cabinets in a light finish, I will probably go with maple or white oak. Those are the most reasonably priced in my area. No “orangish” stain though. I am stuck on cabinet door style, something that has some detail interest, but not super busy. These are going to be hard decisions for me. A lot will depend on cost.

Happy to hear natural woods and color is coming back - as I'm so tired of the white color everywhere. I have my original natural color maple cabinets and I would never paint them. Personally I do not care for excessive open shelves and numerous glass front cabinets. I prefer my beautiful natural pine glass hutch for display pieces.
