Half of the people here have no clue about hockey. Sweeney is doing the same thing he did with Heinen and Geekie. Let a player in a bad system show everyone he is a good player. I would gladly take a big winger who averages 1 pt every 4 games on the 4th line. Jones brings his A game every night and will be eager to prove himself in Boston. It also brings in more competition for lines 3 & 4 and solid player/fill in if someone goes out injured. Great move GM!

If Jones is playing any higher up than 4th line then I think you are doing it wrong. Geekie scored 30 points in limited ice time and had (up until this season ironically enough) proven he could win faceoffs as a center. Which is what got him in the door for us. Now for us he wasn't winning many faceoffs so found himself shifted to the wing (until the playoffs where Zacha vanished and lost his job to Geekie). As it stands right now your third line would Poitras centering which ever of Frederic or Geekie that you don't slot in DeBrusks former wing slot, and Brazeau. I'm not pulling Brazeau out of that slot for Jones. That's if he even earns the slot. Brown, Lettieri, Tufte for vets are also going to be looking for that slot and you have a couple of internals guys in Nelson and Kuntar who I imagine are going to want that last 4th line slot as well. And that's all assuming none of the better kids Lysell, Merk, Farinnacia push for the 2nd line winger slot and get it. Cause you certainly aren't giving Jones 3rd line time over Frederic or Geekie if they are both on the line.

Great takes bud, appreciate the analytical side. As more of a 'gut feeling' kind of guy, I'd say this trade could be the steal of the decade. Finally, we’ve got someone to fill the void Big Z left in our defense and toughness. We tried to plug toughness-end of that gap with Lucic, which was a disaster, but it’s awesome to see our decision-makers sticking to their guns and still respecting the physical side of the game. Our offense is solid, and we still have cash to splash if we really need an extra punch up front. And you said it yourself, we are going to be almost impossible to score on so our GA will be stellar all year long even with a little more modest offensive output. Plus, with Debust and Heinen gone, it's a golden opportunity for our young guns like Lysell and Merkulov to step up. These guys haven’t really had a chance to shine in high-pressure situations like power plays, but now it’s their time. I’ve never been more excited for the upcoming season. Once this roster clicks, we’re going to be unstoppable. And let's be honest, even tough I will be missing the goalie hugs, the games are going to be a blast to watch with all the action and hustle. Go B’s!!

Definitely an overhated signing. The term may be a bit much but that’s how free agency works. Like you said he’s a beast at the faceoff dot, is good defensively and can produce when with the right players and it doesn’t get much better than playing with Pasta
