I had a school project once that I had to type we had a computer but not a printer so I went to the library and ended up using one of those type writers. I worked at a job they didn't have a terrace but they had 4 court yards. That building was in such good condition to be demolished.

100 year ago: 20 foot wide brick arch no big deal we do it. 2024: Never would anyone attempt such a thing. Even imagine doing something so crazy. how humanity has regressed.

12:00 this is...INCREDIBLE these buildings should be preserved. Time travel may never be possible (it will) so we need to preserve such spaces. This is a direct view into the past. You can touch, feel, see, and smell the past with places like this. Without a Star Trek TNG hollo-deck.

I'm just gonna gaslight myself into believing that this building still exists and didn't get demolished. As Adam Savage once said, "I reject your reality and substitute my own!"

Just wanted to point out that when theaters were segregated (and it wasnt just in the south), the highest seats with bad sightlines were often where people of color were required to sit. Many of the theaters built in this period also had secondary less grand entrances for people of color.

William McKinley, the 25th president of the United States, was shot on the grounds of the Pan-American Exposition in the Temple of Music in Buffalo, New York. that was across the street from this building in 1901, today known as Delaware park. the direct area is home to Buffalo State public university with 150 years of history. Buffalo is named the Queen city even today, it once was the second largest city to NY City back then. The area is very rich in history and buildings from the glory days. its a shame the college students there Know absolutely nothing about any of this. I spent my early years here (not the looney farm) and this video warms my heart, thank you.

These "hospitals" are empty now. Decesions were made. The conclusion was it was more cost effective to cycle these people in and out of jails / prisons. 🎉

I was born in 63. a lot of my youth was spent exploring what once was, after the offshoring and plants closing, some of you understand the feelings it brings or you wouldn't be here.

This is local to me!! The owner of the major mall local to it is the father of the owner of this building who is running from the state to avoid taxes. Even though the state is offering to pay him big money for this building. The city keeps closing it up and then teens rip it all down. Some of my best photos ever are of the glass and hallways in this property.

You also feel for vibration and for sound this still exists in all industrial settings believe me there are maintenance technicians out there that can take and walk by a electric motor and just by the sound it's making know that it has a problem or he can feel the vibration of a bad bearing these are skills that you can't get at MIT and unfortunately these skills are greatly under appreciated you'll find this due to the fact that whenever a upper management looks for cost cutting they usually go after the maintenance guy with one hand on the bearing and another on a coffee cup Escalades Oilers working good so his contribution isn't recognized until one of those bearings Burns Out

People have no idea how valuable steam engine knowledge is, whether as the engine used at a mine, a water pump, or as a railroad locomotive. Which makes such knowledge priceless. Knowledge such as a book I have in my possession that is a technical manual for repairing steam locomotives. And the interesting bit? Published in my hometown, exactly 100 years ago in 1924. People have forgotten that the way we once lived, we used to take pride in our work, when nothing was throwaway or considered "preplanned obsolescence." Just because it's old, doesn't mean it's not useful. I would rather have dependable and able to DIY repair it, than buy new. Edit: For all of the talk today in 2024, about climate and environmental sustainability, this steam pump house is probably one of the most environmentally-sustainable pieces of equipment to still exist. This machine still, after all this time, works perfectly, and can still do the job for which was built. Technology like this is peak harmony with what the goals of that technology are. Edit 2: Fun Fact, the saying "Clean as a whistle" comes from the Age of Steam, with how clean steam whistles were kept, not just because they were brass, but steam is unintentionally a cleaning agent and anti-corrosive agent.
