How reliable are jet-ski's for long distance (solo) cruising??? Now, i never owned one, but i do all my maintenance alone and i have a car, motorcycle, atv, lawn-mower and so on, and i am thinking about buying a Jet-ski but they are way expensive for my budget, all but the cheapest models, yet if better models are much more reliable then off course i would rather buy them, hang the expence, however i have to be able to use it for cruise at least 7 days or more at any point, alone, up to 500 miles there and 500 back and all in between... so any info or recommendation are welcome, ta...

We have done long distance riding on all three brands - Sea-Doo, Yamaha and Kawasaki. All have their strengths and weaknesses. The common theme for reliability is good maintenance. If you maintain each skill well they will look after you. Main thing to watch out for on Sea-Doo is IDF failures and carbon seal wear. On Yamaha FX watch out for fuel injector wires becoming detached near the connectors. On Kawasaki fuel economy can be an issue on long rides. Hope this helps.

Thanks for the feedback. These colour schemes are from 2022 and they changed for 2023 and 2024. The 2025 colour schemes are due to be unveiled later this year. Also the US gets more colour options than Australia on some models because our market is much smaller. So Yamaha Australia keeps the lineup simpler.

Hey there. Thanks for the question. Yamaha has not announced when the supercharged 1.9-litre is due to debut. There has been some speculation it is coming for the 2025 model year, but there has also been some speculation it is further away than that. I’m sorry that’s not a clear answer. Given how thirsty the non-supercharged 1.9 is (in our testing it uses as much fuel as the supercharged 1.8) we reckon the supercharged 1.8 may end up delivering the best bang for buck fuel wise. Hope this helps.

Yamaha overall is better quality. A whole lotta plastic on the sea-doo. Just wish the jet blaster version could do wheelies better, thats the whole point of the trim system and why yamaha made this version to compete the trixx. Oh well. I have an Ex deluxe. Amazing pwc for how cheap you can buy them for. Great dilemma to have! If you’re wanting to Jet Ski from the boat in open water I would consider Yamaha VX or FX or Sea-Doo GTI or GTX (larger skis are more stable in the ocean) but both of these would blow the budget. Both the Sea-Doo Spark and Yamaha EX are in your budget. If you want to explore without worrying about fuel range (and you’re in flat water such as rivers or lakes), the Yamaha EX has a larger fuel tank and also a bigger rear platform to step on and off and to just dangle your feet in the water. So Yamaha EX or JetBlaster? Let’s know how you go.
@cafone3115

@WatercraftZone well, I'll be in the ocean, off of Miami. So I don't think this will be calm waters. This is a pretty comprehensive list with all the right details, but I have noticed one peculiarity. Australia in general, and this channel in particular, LOVES their fishing skis, to the point where all 3 of Sea-Doo's FishPro models are on this list. The FishPro Scout's cousin, the GTI 130/170, isn't here at all, despite being a cheaper option if you don't need a Garmin and rod holders or want a power bump. I believe this happened with last year's list as well, so if you're here for recommendations, keep the GTI lineup in mind. This isn't necessarily criticism, just something I continually notice.

Thanks for your feedback. We will take it on board for next year. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, as they say. But the Yamaha FX is a better hull in rough conditions, has a larger glovebox compartment, and a larger bow storage area. Thanks for your feedback. We tested two Sea-Doo Spark Trixx models and the performance times we showed were an average of our four best runs (two in each direction) in smooth (little to no chop) salt water. As we say in the video, results will vary depending on rider weight, fuel load, water current and wind direction etc. The performance times are intended as a guide only and it is what we recorded on each ski in the same water on the same day with the same rider and same precision timing equipment. There will definitely be higher and lower peaks in different conditions.

Sea-Doo has the broadest and most practical model range in the market (and with good fuel economy), and Yamaha has recently made significant investments in upgrades to the FX platform and debuted a new 1.9-litre engine, the biggest in the industry.
