Hi Stu, Happy New Year, regarding your handbrake set-up, I think you'll find you are missing a spring and two washers on the opposite side to the adjusting nut where the cable connects to the handbrake underneath by the propshaft. I wish the handbrake set-up I now have was as easy to set up as the original set-up. Cheers Marty.

@@stusoldcars4248 I've tried to find my video where I installed the handbrake cable, it shows the spring and the washers, it's in the manual anyway. The springs corrode out together with the washers and just fall off. Keeps the adjust locknut tight against the pin. If you don't have the spring there the nut can work loose and also the threaded part rattles around in the hole and damages the thread. Cheers Marty
@stusoldcars42489 күн бұрын
@CrapToCream that's probably why I needed to run a tap through the threaded part then. I just had a quick Google and can see what you mean now. Definitely wasn't there so either been left out in the past or corroded and disappeared like you say. I will get that sorted. 👍

Thank you for your effort making this video! My MGB hand brake functions, however,I need to do this exact same procedure on my 67 Datsun Roadster and this video helps figure out what to expect. There are very few Datsun Roadster repair videos, so I find MGB videos very helpful as a substitute. The previous owner simply did not reinstall the hand brake handle after putting in the carpet. All the bits are rusted in place all the way to the brake drum.

Personally, I'd keep the oil line the way it is. Seems like the plastic pipe is just not as durable and may be subject to chaffing. Also, if you do keep it the original way, I'd replace the braded hose. Yours looks original to the car. I had an original on mine and was in poor condition. The problem is that you can't see the real condition under the braided cover. Mine looked good but crumbled upon removal. Thanks for making the video.
@CrapToCream2 ай бұрын
Hi Stu, I agree with David, I contemplated something different and, in the end, stuck with the original set-up, just put new parts in, original metal pipe of course. Make sure you replace the leather washer on the back of the gauge, this is a typical leak point, also not sure how you would go with the connection on the back of the gauge unless you somehow adapted the nylon tube to the original metal pipe connection, for me the easiest way out was to replace the gauge and all the connections, it was at that point I decided to stick with the original set-up.
