It doesn't look like a PR SDE will be dropping this year (2024). All previous SDEs were announced (or even heavily rumoured) by this time of the year (August). There has been no such thing this year. I don't think anything of significance will be released in 2024.

Thx. Just tuned in. I have mixed feelings about the documentary (which I admit may be premature) based on some comments Cat Glover and Jill Jones said. Ernie tore it up on the outro to Summer Breeze, perhaps his greatest sonic strafing run and my favorite all-time outro (over Bold as Love by Hendrix, She's Not There by Santana, Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hotel California by the Eagles). But I love all of Ernie's stuff - Climbin' Up the Ladder, Voyage to Atlantis, Go For Your Guns, That Lady... I could go on and on. Just a phenomenal player.

@@amaricommunications4183 You could do a whole piece just on Summer Breeze. That outro is phenomenal. When I was a kid the local radio station only played edited versions of the Isley Brothers' songs, which meant cutting out Ernie's solos for a more RnB sound. But a late-night DJ started playing the full cuts and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was (and still am) a huge Hendrix fan, but I immediately became an Ernie Isley fan, too.

If the Estate is thinking longer term, they have to get more people interested. $1500 tickets will bring in the sand people over and over. It was about the music and if they don’t take advantage of that awesome vault, we fans will be long gone within 10-15 years.
@amaricommunications4183

The big box sets are more for audiophiles and deep cut fans across generations. Most of the Beatle related Podcasters are mainly 2nd generation fans which is around my age and older. Most of the Prince Podcasters are 1st generation like myself. I think we have another 20-30 years on average and I assume 2nd generation fans came in 1990’s. So I think we’re fine. Primary Wave the experience to bring in newbies beyond records, but the estate as a whole has to improve on making celebration more inclusive and if they have to charge the prices they have to both improve on giving a greater experience for the in person crowd and globally make us feel included for those that can’t make it.

Makes no difference. I’m 58. 1st generation Hendrix, Dylan, Zappa, Beatles fans are in their 70’s/early 80’s on average and there’s stuff just coming out they are hearing for the first time. all the talk about ernie and other black artist being underrated, but we're depending on the opposition for ratings...why? is rolling stone the bible? they will always underrate us and overrate themselves because we don't feel our own perspectives of our artist have any merit. black artist are by far the greatest of all time, so who are they to rank us? we should be ranking them, but what do you think they'd say if we did? why can't we have a discussion about our artist without including them and using them as the pinnacle for comparison? in their music discussions they never mention the isleys, ewf, prince, michael, aretha, marvin etc, unless their topic is about a specific black act.. and even then they mention their ppl thru out. things would change if we stop helping them help themselves and pretending they're as good as we are... because they're NOT!

Some of the other shows I watch since I’ve started episodes on Ernie, Eddie and Jesse have started to acknowledge artists like Prince and Stevie in their episodes. It’s a start. I’ve seen another show that has interviewed Ray Parker Jr and Jobo Smith (Tony Toni Tone). Though some of these hosts aren’t fans of Jann Wenner and this was long before his comments, a lot of favoritism in Rolling Stone has had major influence on the youth in the 70’s and 80’s along with the corporate take over of radio and record labels that created even more division in music.

Glad you liked it but, a mix is part of the art. Mix a guitar up, are down. Prince chose to bury his amazing guitar playing on When Doves Cry. So if a mixer decided to boost his guitar playing at the end of WDC, he is making an artistic decision, right? So the ATMOs mixes bother me. They are just taking liberties ..having said that, I will buy this (as I did the D&P ATMOS BLU ray). I will always support the Estate. But, all the talk of separation and clearer sound..it is a new mix. Troubling

It’s the age we live in now. How younger generations and audiophiles consume music is different from our vinyl and CD days. At the end of the day it’s all subjective. I’ve heard a lot about Dolby from other shows talking about other artists, but was always happy with my CD or vinyl listening and how I was listening prior to these early buds. I’m really impressed with the Purple Rain mix. I think the audiophiles will dig it. It’s the best I’ve heard and eclipses other artists I’ve heard in this format recently. I’ve been saying Jimi’s First Rays of the New Rising Sun comes close.

@@amaricommunications4183. So, do you recall all the anger over whether Baby You’re a Trip was Frankensteined ..his lead and Jill’s background vs his own. Whether he intended that final song mix on Originals or not? Well, these ATMOS mixes are way more than all that. I see your point about how to reach younger audiences but, to me, that is just licensing his songs to movies. I learned of classics from movies- I’ll Be Around/ Dead Presidents, Computer Love/Menace 2 Society, If You Think You’re Lonely Now/ Jason’s Lyric etc.

@@amaricommunications4183 My first concert Lovesexy 88 in London. I was a hardcore fan since 1999 song came out. In 9 1990 he started losing edge. He started following trends. I hate his 90s output. He was incredible live performer and still continued attending many shows until my last one in 2007. I still got all the albums but never listen to them. Only his 80s stuff. I think he tried moving forward with TRC and was really interesting BUT went back to playing safe with a commercial success with excellent music but going nowhere. Back to his old school sound without the edge. Disappointing. He had his moments though. But overall playing safe and in auto pilot. Welcome to America or 2010 are so disappointing. Miles Davis moved forward and changed music sound so many times never stopped. Prince changed to worse in the 90s and played safe after the 90s. I was so excited he had a new band with MonoNeon playing bass which looked promising but sadly died ..

So while he means a lot to you, me and my listeners, he isn’t being mentioned enough, especially to a lot of these ‘classic rock’ heads that think that Jimi and some days Prince are the only black guitar players in existence. Right now Ernie only has 9.2k Twitter followers while Eddie Van Halen has over 500k. Top players deserve more than just our memories and the bubble of our music rooms. Spread the word or do your own video if you have to.

Around the World in a day is a much DEEPER album than Purple Rain. I remember that the Purple Rain success went really FAST even though I was in kindergarten at the time and I remember during that time, some white teachers completely ignored it and avoided mentioning Prince in the classrooms because we had a white woman teacher show off her jackson 5 picture disc and even dropped it on the turntable without ever bringing up Purple Rain though it was the #1 album, #1 movie, and when doves cry #1 single all at once.

You may have been too young to remember, but Purple Rain was a target of the PMRC which Al Gore’s wife was a member. It’s why we have those parental stickers on albums now. Michael was considered wholesome in those days and not a threat to the mainstream. Schools were/are reluctant to play such explicit lyrics, especially as young as kindergarten. Which is smart btw. Though Prince didn’t make any statements about it until much later, there are plenty of videos on KZbin of Frank Zappa defending Prince and other artists at the the time and pushing for more parental guidance instead of government interference.
