This is crazy. I was JUST telling my buddy that Ernie Isley was never given the props he deserved as a guitarist.

Thanks! That makes my day at the channel! Thanks for checking it out and by all means share the content as well. Ernie and a lot of other musicians need that coverage so they will never be forgotten.

I thought for sure you were gonna recommend Ernie's album High Wire. He smokes on every track on that one!
@amaricommunications41839 ай бұрын
I was going to, but I haven’t really heard it. A friend of mine got when it first came out and I haven’t heard it since then. I’ll have to seek it out and give it a review in a future episode.

@@amaricommunications4183 Well, you know how all the Isley Bros albums are almost half slow jams. Ernie's solo album is all smoking hot Funk. I haven't heard it in a couple years but I'm not sure it even has one slow jam on it! Eddie Hazel is a legend in my book. I LOVE that album. Bought it on cd back in 1990. I grew up loving the Isley's 70s albums and didn't discover Hendrix until the 80s. Backwards lol

Ernie tore it up on the outro to Summer Breeze, perhaps his greatest sonic strafing run and my favorite all-time outro (over Bold as Love by Hendrix, She's Not There by Santana, Free Bird by Lynyrd Skynyrd, Hotel California by the Eagles). But I love all of Ernie's stuff - Climbin' Up the Ladder, Voyage to Atlantis, Go For Your Guns, That Lady... I could go on and on. Just a phenomenal player.
@amaricommunications41834 ай бұрын
All amazing tracks! I plan on revisiting a lot of those tracks on future episodes! Can’t wait to get home to listen to the tracks on your list!
@Jimifan574 ай бұрын
@@amaricommunications4183 You could do a whole piece just on Summer Breeze. That outro is phenomenal. When I was a kid the local radio station only played edited versions of the Isley Brothers' songs, which meant cutting out Ernie's solos for a more RnB sound. But a late-night DJ started playing the full cuts and I couldn't believe what I was hearing. I was (and still am) a huge Hendrix fan, but I immediately became an Ernie Isley fan, too.

Jimi Hendrix change the sound of the electric guitar forever. Ernie Isley in my opinion is perhaps one of the most gifted guitarist around. I had to privilege of meeting him. He is a super, great nice, very kind human. And yes,because of his skin color that he has not been recognized as one of the perhaps best guitarists in the world. The guy can really play his ass off.

small amount of views but keep it up and give it time-- you look like my age 60 + or - but when 3+3 came out it got alot of radio play on a few songs and immediatly earne was in all the guitar magazines as the new thing. I just listened to it a week ago on vinyl on a nice tube stereo- great album! Great guitar playing and singing. I love hendrix, sly. bloodstone, temps, marvin, curtiss, bobby womack. johnny guitar. 4 tops, spinners, dramatics, parliament- bar kays-so many! I wouldnt put them all in the same catagory but some amazing music in the late 60s and 70s. Thanks for pointing out the live album- Ill check it out. Might take a while because I only listen to LPs Good albums you brought up as asides. You know what I found I never knew existed was War live- double album I got about a year ago- Killin stuff

@amaricommunications41836 ай бұрын
This started with Vernon Ried’s Twitter campaign to get Ernie up to 10,000 followers. Which still hasn’t been achieved. So while he means a lot to you, me and my listeners, he isn’t being mentioned enough, especially to a lot of these ‘classic rock’ heads that think that Jimi and some days Prince are the only black guitar players in existence. Right now Ernie only has 9.2k Twitter followers while Eddie Van Halen has over 500k. Top players deserve more than just our memories and the bubble of our music rooms. Spread the word or do your own video if you have to.

I don't need a video bcuz the history is there of the Isley Brothers. History is not lying on the Brother. I understand that every player has a different sound n U like who u like, but the history is set. Enrie didn't need crack to hit a lick. He just play Great. Don't stumble over your words. ( come with the history) half of these sucker's don't know history anyway ....

Ernie Isley Was Originally A Drummer , And Bass Player. His Inspiration To Pick Up The Guitar Was Inspired By A Remake Of -Light My Fire- By Jose Feliciano. As A Guitarist He Had A Longer and Stronger Impact Than Those Who Are Always Mentioned In Magazines Etc Etc..Media Print Even Looks At Prince And ThrowbackTo Hendricks (over looking Ernie). More Than That Hendricks I Feel Like Has Been Mentioned More Times Than The Isley Brothers In General. So Its Definitely A Cult Mentality When It Comes TO Them...

all the talk about ernie and other black artist being underrated, but we're depending on the opposition for ratings...why? is rolling stone the bible? they will always underrate us and overrate themselves because we don't feel our own perspectives of our artist have any merit. black artist are by far the greatest of all time, so who are they to rank us? we should be ranking them, but what do you think they'd say if we did? why can't we have a discussion about our artist without including them and using them as the pinnacle for comparison? in their music discussions they never mention the isleys, ewf, prince, michael, aretha, marvin etc, unless their topic is about a specific black act.. and even then they mention their ppl thru out. things would change if we stop helping them help themselves and pretending they're as good as we are... because they're NOT!

Some of the other shows I watch since I’ve started episodes on Ernie, Eddie and Jesse have started to acknowledge artists like Prince and Stevie in their episodes. It’s a start. I’ve seen another show that has interviewed Ray Parker Jr and Jobo Smith (Tony Toni Tone). Though some of these hosts aren’t fans of Jann Wenner and this was long before his comments, a lot of favoritism in Rolling Stone has had major influence on the youth in the 70’s and 80’s along with the corporate take over of radio and record labels that created even more division in music.
