I'm sure you'll cover it in a future video, but at long last, we have a name, a release window... and a platform. *TETRIS: THE GRAND MASTER 4 - ABSOLUTE EYE -* is our new name, Steam is our new platform, and we'll see it on there in March 2025.

This game makes me violent. I can see why none of these Tetris games came to America back then. America is already a very violent country. Imagine if people actually played TGM in the US after the Columbine HS shooting. You would have heard about video game related homicides on the news every day. I played for months I still can't get above Rank 5. One day I was so pissed off at being stuck on Rank 5 after months of playing and showing no signs of improvement I ended up breaking one of my PS4 controllers. I'll just stick with the Nintendo and Sega Tetris games. TGM is just ridiculous. I'll never understand the appeal.

There's actually a planned PS2 port for Tetris The Grand Master 2, but never went released. Man, if it's released it might be the best PS2 tetris game ever besides Tetris Worlds.

Agree with PC and Xbox, but what's there to be had on a PS5 version? It does nothing that requires a PS5, and the existing PS4 version already has some PS5-specific code such as automatically switching to X-button-to-select on a Japanese PS5.

I don't see a release of TGM3 happening, sadly. The ZN2 and SH2 cabs used for TGM+TAP are fairly simple, bespoke arcade systems, but the Taito Type X used for TGM3 is just a Windows PC with JAMMA connectors. An eShop release like this would require the Switch (an ARM tablet SoC from 2013, no PC virtualization tricks possible) to *emulate* a Pentium 4 AND a DirectX 9 GPU, complete with licenses for firmware and drivers and Windows XP, at full speed, with playable input delay. High end PCs are only recently managing a Pentium II, via software like 86box. It's just not possible. A direct port would be feasible, but require a pretty expensive amount of work compared to an emulator like this (which can be reused for other games on the same hardware). They might as well just make a new game at that point...

If they still have the source code, it could be a simple source port, also, there's no need to go heavyweight on the emulation, they could do something more high level like wine or whatever valve uses to make porting games to the Steam Deck easier.

@@gcolombelli "Something like WINE" is the result of 30 years of work by hundreds of volunteers and multiple large companies, and it still requires an x86_64 host. Any similar solution for ARM needs hardware the Switch doesn't have. jp companies of this era had a habit of not keeping source code around, but that would be the only option.

How do I get good enough to attempt doing this? should I grind cambridge? I am a total noob at tetris

great question! this stuff i'd definitely recommend first trying out some of the marathon modes aka the master modes in Cambridge to get a sense of how a normal game would feel, then move up to the survival modes aka the death-like ones. it is defintely going to take a lot of practice (hell i can barely get past 200 levels). definitely check out the servers linked below to help you out. best of luck, you absolutely got this!!
