why do they take such a long time to shoot? Is there a version of Japanese archery that focuses more on shooting and less on the slow movements and such?
Finally I can find this videos, That sport is so beautiful. I´m stay in calm.

Sakiyama Sensei , introduced me with 10 intensive private lessons, while I was in Naha...my first month of practice , and almost 1000 arrows fired, my life has irrevocably changed forever....my karate and kobudo improved . The way of the Bow....wow!

I dont think people are supposed to cheer and clap during a kyudo session.....it destroys the mushin spirit.
@BenEmberley3 ай бұрын
In Kyudo taikai, the most the audience can show is applause after hitting the matto. Cheering and shouting is definitely not acceptable, although it seems to happen on a School/University level (there's plenty of KZbin vids showing School/University taikais)

When shooting with the Japanese kimono (Wafuku), in order not to ruin it and it does not interfere with the shot, men take off the sleeve of his left arm. The women instead use a ribbon to tie the sleeves.
@gof2211 жыл бұрын
Why did the archer in back tie a white sash around their shoulders? It didn't look like their robe interfered all that much.

It was just on hit/miss. In some other competition there are also a score based on sharei performance.

It's not about hitting the target, it's about practicing the mind, the target is not important.

After such a ritual I would expect their aim is perfect.. but they don't show the targets T_T!

You can hear the arrow hits the paper of the target like playing a drum.

Cause this isn't archery; it's meditation.
@B.D.E.6 жыл бұрын
It's a martial art, not meditation. The ritual and discipline helps you focus 100% on the pure process of sending an arrow to its target, as mental discipline is incredibly important for accurate shooting. This is something that every archer appreciates, even non-Kyudo archers.

I'm not sure, but there is a specific balance to the limbs. It's possible for one limb to be strong and the other to be weak (relatively), or the grip area itself could be weak (this leads to a more semi-circular shape). I should mention that they aren't actually separate limbs. Search for "Jaap Koppedrayer" on youtube. I went to one of his bow-making seminars, and the bow is made of full length slats set to a very specific curvature.

It really is a 'martial art'; the way the Sensei moves his feet and body is like a kata - maybe is a kata in Kyudo...I haven't seen much before, I am a Western archer. I would love to find out more about Kyudo and the spritual side of the art. The Sensei's muscularity for such a senior gentleman is amazing.

I have a question, Does the Yumi´s limbs have equal power down and up from the arrowpoint, or is the upper limb stronger?
