The old Cascade Road from Banff to the Ya Ha Tinda. It was driveable from Banff in 1981 but not to the public. That was the last year. Parks Canada shut it down in 1982

i lived in Canmore for 8 years, i loved this trail many times but only travelled about 40 to 60 % of the way towards Lake Minnewanka because i always ran out of time . i didn't make it through the extremely treacherous fallen trees mesh and boulder mazes. i enjoy crossing Carrot creek 40 times & bushwaking , but it's very, very slow going . The last time i was there was summer of 2021 .

Thank you Voyager Vyom! The entire loop would certainly be a lot for a day hike but perhaps you could do a 1 night backpacking trip at Merlin Meadows (I have another video on this trip if you’re interested: kzbin.info/www/bejne/jV7CZI2brK9pgJY ) or into Baker Lake/Red Deer Lakes. I find when I can’t convince my friends to head out into the backcountry with me, I head out alone! Sometimes solo adventures are so much fun!!

@@littleloobigworld Just checked out your channel :) It provides a nice itinerary into the Rockies haha. I day hike solo all the time, it can be difficult finding reliable people unfortunately. I tried solo backpacking once and did Maligne Pass; unfortunately it got very sad at night time LOL. Hello! Yes this is the sawback trail & we hiked from August 15-18, 2020 - the weather was sunny and hot for most of our trail with a short rain storm while at Baker Lake. Only thing I have to say is there were SO many black/deer flies and mosquitos at that time last summer.

Little Loo, wonderful vid as always! Glad you're still getting out! A question for you: my wife and I are looking at pot sets and have been disappointed with what we've either seen or bought. We'll probably need bigger than what you have , but at 2:15 I got a glimpse of your cool pot set. What are you using?
@littleloobigworld3 жыл бұрын
Hello Greg! Thanks for your comment, I use a pot set that came with my portable backpacking stove (which I bot on Amazon - link below). It is a deceivingly big pot, I've had no trouble cooking boxes of KD and even 500g of gnocchi in it. You may need something bigger if it's the two of you. GSI has a great little set that I have used before and that is better suited for two people, I'll link that below as well. awesome video, did you have to do any route finding between luellen lake and baker lake? i've read commentary about the trail being tough to find during that stretch in the past but maybe things have changed
@littleloobigworld4 жыл бұрын
I read the same thing but really didn't run into any problems, there is a section of trail where the ground was very muddy (so we couldn't see a distinct trail) but there were markers on the trees every few metres to keep us on track. We carried a map with us, of course, but no serious route finding!

We left our car at Norquay (we only had one car between the two of us) and were lucky enough to have a friend come pick us up in Lake Louise. If you have two cars I would definitely opt to leave one on each end + the drive out there is spectacular anyways

Loved the videos of this and Marvel lake! Makes me want to go now! I've done some canoe camping, but never an overnight backpacking. I live in Calgary and was looking at Yoho lake. What are the sites like? Are they all together or spread out a bit? Are there bear lockers and an outhouse? Looks like it was chilly in the morning in July, in thinking of a weekend in September 🤪😁
@littleloobigworld4 жыл бұрын
I’m so happy we could inspire the urge to get out an explore the beautiful backcountry! This campsite is called Yoho Lake and then other was Marvel Lake (BR13), you can find both on the Parks Canada reservation website; I’d say either would be a great option as a first time backcountry trip because the hikes in aren’t so strenuous! The sites are typically square “tent pads” which are hard ground to pitch your tent on, some are grouped together and some are more private within the trees. It’s typical to have anywhere between 3-15 tent pads at eat campsite. Both campsites were equipped with either bear lockers or a pulley system to hang food and all campsites either have an outhouse or a vault toilet. Yoho Lake campsite was at a higher elevation than some of the other places I’ve slept, so it was definitely chilly... bringing warm, thermal layers and a good sleeping bag is always a good move in the Rockies. Thanks for all your great questions, I hope I was able to provide some clarity. I will be posting more informative videos and tutorials in the coming months about backpacking and hiking; I would love it if you subscribed to my channel! 😊
