Lionel first introduced that tender when they brought out the JLC C&O H7 in 2004. I agree, that tender has a lot of visual appeal. I just wish Lionel would have placed derail chains on the trucks like they did with the following JLC (& Legacy) Allegheny models.

Great video! I pre-ordered the same exact engine you are showing in the video which I received Christmas Eve. This is such a great looking model with lots of eye catching detail, great performance at a very reasonable price. The engine pulls 5-6 heavy weight passenger cars up my 4-5% grade with 072 curve without hesitation. Anyone thinking of getting this engine I highly recommend it.

1:45 pretty much all coal bunkers on tenders are shaped like that, to make the coal slide towards the front and in this particular model most likely into a trough where the stoker screw is. Also the rounded tank (cistern) tender is reffered to as "Vanderbilt" type.

My layout has 4 main lines and several sidings. These lines also have blocks, like a conventional layout. This wire your show going to the Cab 3 Base where does it go to on my layout. What curves are you running this train on? 048, O54,O60, O 72? Wondering if this Berkshire would do fine on O48.

I bought this engine when I was planning a larger layout using 0-54 curves,but those plans changed and I had to pare the curves down to 0-42.I thought I would have to sell it,but I tried it on my 0-42 layout using Menard's tubular track and it ran fine on it and it didn't even look too goofy doing it.

@@Thebell6469 I really appreciate the authentic and helpful reply even though I already made the decision to purchase the locomotive. 🚂. I notice when you ask most people this question you just get the standard “it’s minimum curve is rated 054,” yaeh I know I can read, but we all know Lionel over rates or under rates depending on how you look at it, so I’d like some real life feedback that maybe could be shared. Mine also works fine on my 048 track and looks great doing it. It allows you to see the firebox better on curves. Thanks again!!

@@INDYNOIR1 Congrats!It's a beauty isn't it?Yeah,that's the standard reply when you ask those questions.My favorite is when they say"Yeah it might work,but it will look bad doing it."One,it actually looks pretty good doing it and secondly,I am not a purist,I just want to have fun with my Grandchildren (and by myself too!).Oddly enough,the F-19 Pacific that I bought in the Halloween livery didn't work even though it only has six drivers rather than eight.I don't know if it's because the drivers are larger or if the fact it has two axles on the front truck rather than one on the Berkshire could be the problem.It could also be because the track came loose a bit and caused it to derail.Maybe I'll try again.

Did you happen to listen to your friends sounds and catch all the whistles. I've only heard the one whistle demonstrated here (Berkshire 765). Any chance you know the other whistles on this locomotive? I really want the J Class Whistle that I know is on the 759, but I want this 777. Any information would be greatly appreciated.

@ I watched the one he got at club night at my local train shop I didn’t pay enough attention I was just watching him run around the layout, but when I see him again at store I will ask him , I know he just got the 777 it was gorgeous 👍 😁

I wish I knew what other whistles were on this locomotive. I think you are running conventional, I've only heard one whistle on the videos including yours (Berkshire 765). Love whistle #2. So many good whistles on this locomotive. It has a few raspy sounding whistles, some hooters, & the ever popular Berkshire 765.

Whistle 2 is definitely a mystery to me but I do know that it was also on the Fezziwig Camelback. My guess is Lionel put this on the Polar Express as a reference to the strangely harmonic metal groans the engine makes after it stopped at the Hero Boy's house in the movie.
