0:54 - 1:05. Musicians should study this and see what breathing is required to sing. It is an angle and view that you don't get to see often. Serious bellows action, besides the diaphragmatic. And the shoulders are still. Get thee to your swimming and develop the breathing capacity.

J.S. Bach was on first name terms with God and yet he had a deep understanding of the human condition. He had to bury ten of his children. He is the composer all others look up to. And this is an immaculate and sensitive performance.

Perfect - just listening to this again. I chose to walk down the aisle to this at our wedding to this in 1983, much to the organist's amusement. My lovely husband has just passed away but this music is honey to the soul.

I'm so sorry to hear about your husbands passing. My mum used to love classical music and took me to the Proms when I was 12 in 1987. I was so moved by this piece I was in tears and didn't want to leave the the Albert Hall. Music is so special isn't it and truely speaks to our souls. Sending you ❤🎶

Horrible. Too fast, boring stark sound from the choir, rattling instruments. When is this obsession with *so-called* authenticity going to end?

"But Who May Abide" should be sung by a basso or baritone. The mezzo-sopranos and countertenors who have sung this number simply cannot match the gravitas that basses and baritones have.

I think this is a good version of The Messiah, but nothing more. There are other much, much more elaborate readings of this musical jewel: John Butt, Rademann, Václav Luks, Pinnock, Paul McCreesh...

I used to listen to this music as a historic restorationist repairing 100 year old windows and metal casements. It is the theme of late summer turning into autumn, with it's slowly cooling temperatures and rising colors, the buzzing of insects giving way to the sway and shay of the winds through cathedral colored forest glens.
