I had the same problem on my e90 and cut the exhaust and removed the dpf internals but later just replaced it with a new dpf Then on my 318d f30 i got a large drill and punched seveal holes in the dpf honey cone and some times the engine management light comes on but goes out when i put shell fuel in I have been for an mot and it passed

Hey, great info. I've got a question. I have an e84 2.0d and I've got to replace the flex pipe on the exhaust, which requires removing the dpf to weld it, so I'm thinking it might be worth giving the dpf a wash while I'm at it. I don't have any issues or codes, just a preventative measure. Do you think removing the dpf, unplugging the sensors etc and putting it back will throw any codes once I start the car? I don't have the obd software.

Suggestions....gloves??? Don't wear watches and rings when carrying out mechanical work as they can be easily damaged. What happened to the lower seal that is usually fitted prior to the lower bearing race?

Hello mate. Did uou have any problems starting it after this video? Or was it just the first run that was the problem?
@MrScififan
@MrScififan 8 ай бұрын
Hello mate, sadly this video doesn’t end well as after starting it it started fine ok since then and it appeared to run fine but a few weeks later I got the oil pressure light that wouldn’t go away. Sadly and a big lesson to me was I had used 2 halves trom 2 different engines to do the repair, hence the main bearings were way tighter than they should have been and hence my initial starting issues - during the 3 or 4 weeks it did run - the main bearings were wearing down so much that one of them made its way into the cam timing chain housing and during an 80mph overtake it got caught between the cam chain and lower sprocket - ended up losing power during mid overtake and making a quick exit to the hard shoulder - later pulling the engine apart and finding bent valves and all sorts - big lesson learnt for me was when doing an engine rebuild always use the top and bottom halves from the same engine as they can’t be mismatched as they are machined as a whole in the factory - apologies for the blog! lol!

@MrScififan I appreciate the detailed reply. Thank you. I am currently restoring a hornet and having starting issues. No history of the bike, played up for 7ish years. Got everything back together but no joy on starting and it sounds good turning. Just no firing. Except I did have a tiny bit of a splutter so after seeing yours splutter before it wanted to start maybe I should have carried on a little longer before taking things back apart.
@MrScififan

@@dragonsteIf yours is turning ok that’s a good sign - one additional thing I forgot to mention is I was having running issues after I got the engine starting and I remember having to do a full strip and clean of the carbs - after that I had full power restored and it ran great! (Until it blew up lol!)

Thanks for the video. So you don’t recommend replacing it with a new one? I’ve called several auto shops and some say to replace it altogether because it will fail eventually. Like you said it’s a lot less expensive to clean than replace. Thanks.

How were you able to remove the lower bearing on the stem?
@MrScififan
@MrScififan 10 ай бұрын
Just realised I didn't show that at all! If I remember right that was an absolute pig - but mainly involved getting a flat blade screwdriver and hammering round the mating point of the old bearing inthe hope of getting a little purchase and continuing all the way round - thinking about it now could probably have been made a lot easier with a bearing puller

You must reset the dpf counter, otherwise the ecu will not know it has been cleaned. You need to tell the ecu is has a new dpf, counter will then be set for another 250k km

You know I don’t remember being uncomfortable on that trip at all - I think most of the time we were at speed so the combination of wind blast adding some support with the helibar risers made a good combination - I also had an Airhawk seat on there and the guys on the ZZR and Triumph Tiger were in more pain than I was 😂 Sadly I’ve sold that bike since, big mistake and I’m on the lookout for another

My grandson's CBF just done this, but only lost one side of the piston skirt below the oil ring and he switched it off immediately. Piston is obviously buggered by I think the bore is OK and so is the head. I think these engines run quite hot for an air cooled - the plug indicated quite a lean running engine...
