Besides mgs3 remakes I also really hope we can get metal gear and metal gear 2 solid snake remade for modern systems as they contain important story elements for the series but have for the most part aged like milk while being mostly unplayed by the greater mg community.

I dont expect any cutscenes or set pieces to be modified much if at all. Maybe we can switch camo or cure wounds without the need to pause the game which is more immersive and would mean you cant just cure your injuries while 10 guards are in your face or the end is sniping at you. Otherwise i do hope that we can get side ops\vr mission type content Extra ops could even be made post launch if Konami wants some dlc stuff.

I agree with everything you said but MGS2 released right after 9/11. And in development, they were planning on a terrorist attack in the financial district. And in an interview Kojima himself says that he was thinking of cancelling the project completely. Later they came up with this instead. So... yeah. Is it perfect? no. But it works in my opinion.

Portable ops is my favorite is the series. I was engaged with the story and to me its Canon, I mean they asked Kojima for insight not to contradict any story bits that might come up while we was deep in 4s development. He even produced it. I also agree soild 7/10 hope it comes to consoles as a bonus for fans when vol.2 comes out.

You misunderstood hot coldman, the game itself makes clear why he believes machines should control the nukes, and Huey is one of the most complex characthers in the whole franchise wtf.

Surely someone else has brought this up. You have probably already explained your reasoning. You might even explain it in the next few minutes of the video, but I had to pause after hearing you say “There’s literally no plot points left unresolved that would warrant an entire third chapter”. Other than Eli hijacking his own metal gear and mantis holding onto the third English strain. Those are some pretty major unresolved plot points. Excessively major plot points.

@1:03:01 you ask about a quote. the entire funeral scene, where the boss refuses to bury them at sea, because the cruel indifference of it is too similar to how the world treats soldiers. he has them made into diamonds, so they can carry their fallen into combat.

My favourite MGS game gameplay-wise, just a shame that there wasn't enough gameplay to begin with. The sheer amount of cutscenes ruined what could've been one of the best games of all time.

There are two sides to the cultural thing, though, and the other would be allowing the country that people move to to keep its own culture, without being changed. Otherwise, you're just defending the rights for the people who come to a country to keep their culture, but not for those people who live there.

Problem with the Hitman comparison is Hitman is trying to be more of a pure stealth game than Metal Gear. Metal Gear has always been mediocre as a stealth game. Hence why fans often try to refer to it as 'stealth action' in order to try skirt around how the stealth gameplay lacks depth and doesn't focus nearly on pushing the player to engage with and improve their stealth gameplay. A good stealth game doesn't make stealth optional. It makes it the only way to proceed because that's the whole point - you're playing a stealth game That's why Hitman punishing you for screwing up makes sense because the interactive playground and planning in order to execute your plan perfectly is the draw of the Hitman premise. Metal Gear has always been about if you screw up, well, just gun people down or take advantage of any number of gimmicks or gadgets at your disposal to slip out so players don't have to deal with the consequences.

I disagree with the point that MGS V was the best writen MGS game to date. I can see where you are comming from because it is technically more competent I guess but evolving to be more bland is no upside in my book. Kojima has always written dialogue like he has never interacted with another human beeing in his life and I kinda respect that. In MGS V there is just nothing but bland exchanges imo. Also the plot-twist is turbo-ass too. It exists only to explain a plot hole that existed in MGS for about 20 years and I dont think its a very good or logical explanation why there are at least two men with the nickname Big Boss living at the same time. Overall I like the points you raise in your video I just cant just let you slander the brilliant, but very stupid, writing of earlier MGS titles. I would never want to have it any other way.

You speak in redundant, bait-y ways sometimes, like "I both loved it and hated it." This is typically a writing tool used by people who don't have interesting ideas, or if they do, they're incapable of putting them into words. You don't suffer from that at all, your ideas and examinations are very well thought out and articulated nicely. I think you'd have a cleaner script if you removed parts like that, it gives the impression of uncertainty in opinion when you really do have solid and fresh arguments. This and the MGS5 video are great, keep it up!

honestly we really have to give peace walker such amazing praise for being the guinee pig to all of the amazing systems but i still wish we had metal gear zeke style boss fight where we got to make a monster metal gear of our design and customize and then properly fight and destroy, even use in the unit deployment mechanic or even defend mother base and have random players fight our metal gears. would have been so cool shit i typed this early into watching, glad to know it was a dope idea

9:07 Mr. X doesn't persistently hunt you for long. He only actively stalks you in one level, the RPD, the rest of his encounters, more specifically in Leon's campaign, he's scripted and only stalks you for a few seconds. After recently playing through the remakes, Re7 and ReVillage, most of their respective stalker enemies are confined to one level, Nemmy, unfortunately, was no different. Ik this is an old review, but I wanted to share my thoughts. I'm a RE newbie since 2022.

Tbh this game was never supposed to be separate. I look at the game as GZ is tanker and PP is plant. Cutting out the tanker chapter and selling it separately was kinda meh. Definitive edition helped a little, but they should have given you an option that said something like "Do you want the story to go straight into TPP from GZ when you complete the main GZ mission?" and you select yes.

Good in-depth review and while I'm okay with most of the story gripes you have, I wanted to point out specifically when you talk about how the game bypasses Venom and gets to you. Given Kojima's intent for Venom to be your avatar in the timeline, I am inclined to believe this is quite deliberate.

I love eavesdropping on Soviet soldiers' conversations. In the Red Brass mission, you can listen in to the Russian base commanders talking, and one of them talks with a really worried tone about reports of people 'floating away on balloons'. I agree with a bunch of this but… a lot of the exposition you’re complaining about would be literally impossible to “show” the audience. They are complex ideas that need to be explained through dialogue. A lot of the plot points you claim are unnecessary or don’t build on past events, in fact do.

Although I appreciate the dedication involved with going so hard on a review like this, it felt like a never-ending and consistent blast of information that just got a little tiresome after a while. As an example, check out Steak Bentley's "Metal Gear Solid 4 was a mistake" video to get a feel for how much pacing can do for a video. He has highs and lows, glee and anger, and it just flows instead of feeling like a stream of words. Just a thought <3 Best of luck!

1:25:03 its crazy the 'act structure'' makes this game 100x better than whatever bs kojimbo gave us lmao .. the act sequence makes perfect sense in this matter and a little bit of extra cutscenes between each chapter would literally complete the entire acts .. no 'chapter 3' required.. bravo man you solved mgsv pacing problem 👏

The following comments are based on the NIGHTMARE and INFERNO modes of the game which are clearly the devs intended way of play. Personally, I think this game is fantastic. Combat is far more dynamic than both RE2 and RE4 remakes. Jill can essentially parry/interrupt almost all enemy attacks, including the Hunters 1 shot move by using the knife and pulling back on the joytick while striking. In addition the dodge roll into counterstrike/shot is highly rewarding and satisfying. Not to mention her excellent selection of fire arms and pistol variations. Carlos is an absolute blast with his counter punch perfect parry as well as his shoulder shove which can also lead into a player initiated counter punch by double tapping the skill button with proper timing. Nemesis is absolutely phenomenal, I really don't get the complaints here unless all you do is play on the introductory difficulty settings...which are just that and introduction to the real game. I personally dont think the hardcore and below shouldve been included as they don't encourage the player to engage with the games new mechanics. Back to Nemesis, Nemesis is relentless on Inferno and Nightmare and for all the right reasons. He serves as a driving force for the player, encouraging the player to move forward while strategically engaging him in order to get those precious weapon parts and extra shot gun ammunition. I agree that his transformation just before the clock tower was a boss fight too soon and that we could've have more trenchcoat and aresenal nemesis before going to feral beast mode, but with that said, he's still a blast to fight and all versions of nemesis are better than any other boss fight in the series outside of the RE5 DLC Lost in Nightmare Wesker VS Chris and Jill. Short doesnt mean bad. Its actually what I love about the game. Its appropraitely paced from beginning to end, with not a single section isnt at least good. Its highly replayable for speed runners and high skill players. It story and characters are the best the series has seen to date. The irony is that the complaints made about cut content are the worst parts of the OG RE3. As for linearity....RE3 OG was extremely linear, and was mostly just run down this extemely long alley way and then back track...rinse and repeat. Nemesis was not random as many would have you think and was just as scripted and far less engaging and fun. I would argue that RE3 make is ironically the most polished of the remakes by far outside of the RE1 remake thatvwas headed by Mikami.

Holy fuck, that was an amazing review/essay, I watched it all in one go. I always had trouble articulating why I like or dislike things, how I know when things work or don't work, and this video helped me a lot with that. Kojima is capable of both the very best and the truly worst on a level I've never seen before with another creator. To be honest, I've been grappling with my own conflicting thoughts and emotions about his work for a while, so it was nice to see someone who could not only acknowledge both the best and the worst at the same time. (and I go on several rants after that, feel free to ignore lol) One thing I really appreciated in particular is your critique about the characters and their wasted potential. I've never heard anyone shine a light on the problem that way, maybe because that's not something other fans really care about when it comes to MGS? I don't know. Once you peel away the gameplay, the action, the plot and its twists and turns, the music and cinematic aspects, etc, what you're left with is the characters, and that's ultimately what I always come to care about most when all is said and done. And on that front, MGS (and Death Stranding, which I was a fan of long before becoming a fan of MGS) has been both very satisfying and disappointing at the same time. He has cool ideas for characters, and one of the things that made me love them, is that I never felt like Kojima judged them. I think it's the one place where he does show instead of telling, because the way characters are written in the west (mostly in American entertainment), everything is very black and white, the villain and the hero have to be clearly distinguishable, and there's no nuance allowed. Kojima allows his characters to be fully human in a way I've rarely seen before. At the same time, they can feel not human enough, which is really a shame. It always feels like something is missing, like Kojima could've added so much more depth to these people, it's so fucking frustrating... The worst offender for me when it comes to wasted potential has always been Ocelot, about to his family history, and how tightly it is linked to Snake's life, and yet they never had ONE conversation about it, and I won't go on a rant about it but yeah, it's one of my biggest gripe character-wise when it comes to this franchise. But anyway, yeah, all of that to say I agree with your point, and I'm so happy someone pointed it out lol
