Things you need to know before buying a harley: Don't. Just don't.

I ran one on my Last Bike, I plan on installing one on my current one. I used a Spade bit to drill out the lens, but use VERY light pressure and low RPM, let the bit slowly score the hole in the plastic lens until it comes through. It helps to start on the outside then switch to the inside, using the center hole as a guide, and continuing switch as the cut deepens. Ideally ending up with the final score which breaks through about midway between the inside and outside of the plastic lens. This prevents possible cracking. Also make sure to order a GLASS Gem blue dot, they really look good. There are cheap PLASTIC ones which really don't work as well and the color may fade after time. Also you can slightly TWIST the mounting tabs with needle nose pliers to secure the Glass and Bezel into the Tail light Lens....

WD 40 is petroleum based: You know why its called WD 40 right? Water displacement (formula) 40. Cold war days prior to Teflon coating missiles it lived in big cigar like tubes. WD 40 was developed to displace moisture so the missiles that lived in warehouses inside it's cigar tubes wont rust. Good advice most of it. Just buy yourself a cable luber for 15 bucks and lube the cable properly.

I've never been into forward controls I prefer floorboards, I'm 6'4", so I do move my my floorboards out and forward a bit. I've found them much more comfortable on longer trips. I actually have for Harleys a 1978 flh bobber/ chopper, 1982 flt, 1991, springer softtail and a 1992 electra glide ultra classic and floorboards on each one modified to fit me.

i personlly highly advise against removing the rear belt guards it really doesn't improve the look all that much more remove much wait. if you don't mind the extra maintenance id just wait till its time to replace the belt (wether age or miles) and do a chain conversion. cost just a bit more than replacing the belt and adds a wicked look to the bike.
@thewhiskythrottleclubАй бұрын
A chain conversion is on my list of things to do for sure! They look a heap better, but like you mentioned I’ll wait until the belt needs to be replaced.
@motopanda3741Ай бұрын
@thewhiskythrottleclub something to watch out with a chain conversion is if your running 13in shocks or taller you'll need a chain slider otherwise the chain will grind against the passanger peg mount.

Reasonable person spoiler alert: if you actually care about your looks while driving anything remotely unsafe, the choise of your wear based on the looks should cast you into shadow dimension. Darwin award ain't gonna win itself.

I understand where you’re coming from and I suppose riding a motorbike isn’t for everyone. I’m not saying I’m going for looks over everything else, but thats the good thing about the development of riding gear, we can wear protective clothing while wearing something we think looks good. No matter what style of rider someone is, there is always going to be different levels of protective gear that will appeal to every rider.

That hoodie looks good. I’ve been rocking a Johnny Reb armoured flannel shirt/jacket recently. Far more comfortable, lighter, and more “stylish” than my other motorcycle jacket.
@thewhiskythrottleclubАй бұрын
Johnny Reb have done a good job with the hoodie. I didn’t end up putting it in the video but even though it’s on the heavier side, I took it riding on a cold day and a hot day and I was expecting to burn up on the hot day, but it was surprisingly breathable and comfortable in the heat.

What i find funny is Ive ridden sport bikes, crouch rockets etc on highways all over ..@360 lbs and the sportster at 500 lb plus isnt able to cruise on highways or a linger distance??? come on maaaan
@thewhiskythrottleclubАй бұрын
The 883 does struggle on highways a bit. I’m about 80kg or 176lbs and it’s not to bad for me. The 1200 is better, but if the sportster has a chain rather than a belt, the sprockets can always be changed which can improve the gearing for highway riding.

@thewhiskythrottleclubАй бұрын
You can get dedicated wash solutions to wash them out with, you put the cleaner over it, let it sit for a bit and then wash the dirt out keep doing that until the water runs clear, let the filter dry 100% then cover it in filter oil. Then you bolt it back up and you’re good to go.

On earlier models the coils sat in that space at the top of the frame under the front of the tank, to get that nice see through look, we used to do some creative wire rerouting and reposition them down near the key mount.

How long did it take you to get it to where it’s at now? It makes it harder to mod bikes, especially when the shipping for parts from the states is the same price if not more than the actual parts themselves.
