It’s clear that VFF caters most to frequent domestic travellers. And who does lots of domestic travel in a year? Typically businesses paying for their employees’ travel. Domestic travel is also very short so personally I don’t care for the bland luxuries of Virgin Australia Business Class. Virgin domestic lounges are also nice but nothing incredible. It would be nice to cater more towards private customers who don’t fly too frequently in domestic but want annual or bi-annual international holidays. All that happened to this customer base was that business reward seats increased in price for both QR and SQ services (eg 138k to 158k VFF, and $500 to $800/$1000 in taxes) and removal of EY services. And the Qatar-Virgin partnership does nothing for the end customer because prices are still high as ever and continuing to increase at a rate much faster than our wages, generally speaking. At 160K VFF + close to $1000 in taxes unless you’re lucky - that business reward seat costs too much now even if it is Q-Suite. And we don’t have the alternative/competition with Etihad now. The only thing that would restore my faith in VFF is to expand international partnerships, increase availability and number of partner airlines business reward seats (at the moment you have to work hard to snipe only 1 seat let alone 2), increase status credits for international travel. I know the core business is in domestic, but if you can figure out a good business model internationally you will have many more members to gain, while not losing the domestic core.

Did the seat actually lie completely flat? In the video it looks like it is an angled flat seat (not a full recline)

Are there any business class award seats for partner airlines that don't appear on the Qantas website i.e. you need to search on BA or the airline's website to find them? If so which partner airlines?

The other fabulous, un- (foreign)touristy island is Shikoku and the many small islands of the Seto Inland Sea. Takamatsu remains my favourite Japanese city (so far). You can get a ferry from Matsuyama and arrive into Hiroshima in hipster style, getting the tram from the port :)

Nice episode, Point Hacks! Yes, there is plenty to see and do in Kyushu, and eat. It is definitively more relaxed than Tokyo and Osaka, even in Fukuoka. Many TV-comedians, actors and others relocate to Fukuoka from Tokyo because of lower prices, the relaxed lifestyle and the food, they commute by shinkansen or plane for work. The first place in Japan I went to +25 years ago was to a traditional, old hotel in Shirogane in Fukuoka, I was overwhelmed. Then I ended up living in the city for years, calling it home, and visited most of Kyushu. There are several places known for pottery in Saga prefecture like Ureshino and there are fine onsens and ryokans. A tip is to search online or contact a travel agency to get the best price for a ryokan/onsen.Off season, off big holidays etc it can be quite cheap. If you visit in the colder time of the year do not miss oyster huts in like Itoshima. Nagasaki is very hilly and impossible to bicycle in and many restos, even in Chinatown close very early. Fukuoka is flat and perfect for bicycling and there is nightlife. August in Kyushu can be challenging, very warm and humid, one goes into shops one is not interested in just to get some AC. Autumn, winter and spring are very mild. I bicycled all year around, maybe with a thin jacket and a pair of gloves in the winter, not much more. Kagoshima is pretty with some special food and very good sake. And yes, it is possible to eat wagyu beef from Saga or Miyazaki at resonable prices a bit everywhere. From Fukuoka one can also catch the Beetle high-speed ferry to Busan in Korea, 4 hours smtg and quite cheap. Busan is very pretty and they have wonderful fish and seafood. Hotels, taxi and all is cheap compared to Japan. Right now, end of Nov -24, the Sakurajima volcano in Kagoshima has a massive period of eruptions. Kyushu greatly recommended.

Great video! I will have most points going to Qantas Business Rewards and only some to Qantas Frequent Flyer, I will only earn on the ground with an annual flight at best. I was told you can't transfer your points from Personal to Business and can only transfer 20,000 points PA from Business to Personal. Which one is better to have alot of points in, in my situation please ?

I mean... Assuming you're on a credit card that earns 1 qff points per dollar, your flight actually costs you $2609 + $318000 which isn't exactly obtainable by the average punter.
