I see you're reviewing "master edition" is there a previous, less masterful and more affordable print edition?

Damn, I played this campaign in the 80ies. Those two minotaurs are legendary amongst Swedish RPG enthusiasts.

I backed Longshot City and got my book not too long ago (after a long, unnecessary wait due to the books not being shipped out in a timely manner). The book, sadly, has one major flaw: it expects the reader to already be somehow familiar with the Troika system (which I had never heard of until I got this game). The book fails to explain even the most basic mechanics of the game, like how the rolls work. The book also fails to include a beginning adventure and instructions on how to create your own enemies.

The thought about the price of equipment should given a huge focus as it provides treasure. I put the book away because I can't give a gem the size of hand to a poor character.

Ok…so I have heard repeatedly that you’ll need to know the 5e rules in order to play this campaign/setting. What specific rules is that? Outside of the action economy and combat…what other 5e base rules are needed if you play this using only the setting of LOTR?

I picked up this book and am in my second reading through it. I love how it is written and like the idea of the adventures throughout. Will incorporate into our campaign once we are done in Insmouth, which will give me enough time to get a better grasp of the location. I recently visited Korea and appreciated the coverage in this book. Great work. Thank you.

I like the idea of The King in Yellow being the haunting, maybe even resentful echo of a dead god.

I backed this. Ive already converted it to 5e and ran it twice in that system. Added a ton of stuff in the underground forest, and made it huge. Super psyched for this one. Judges Guild was in Decatur Illinois.

Why is not available anymore in the store? Is a revision in the works? I was thinking about getting this RPG.

Ran a game last week of the Core Starter Set, was really good change of pace, player and dm wise; dm not rolling all the time in combat frees up my time for description and tactics as well as static damage values on enemies vs rolled damage reduction based on armor type by PCs was really cool, made npc damage feel lethal especially in mobs

Check out Star Wars d20. It is a system built on the same basic foundations as D&D 5E. A character has the same HP at level 20 as they did at level 1 (barring feats or class traits or somesuch). However, there was also another health bar (Endurance Points maybe?) that "protected" the HP bar. Those would go up by level. But at the same time, those EP could be bypassed with a critical hit (no extra damage, just bypass EP and reduce HP directly.) Additionally, EP could be used to power Force abilities (and I think other classes could use EP for various maneuvers). So HP were static, but EP were variable and an expendable resource. An elegant system for a more enlightened age.

The bottom guy (sorry didn't catch the name 😊) does something I've struggled with aswell, it's clear he's reading off a script. What I do to sound a bit more naturel is write down bulletpoints rather than the entire speech, that way I'll convey everything I need to. Anyway thanks for the info, I'm considering picking this up.

Hello from Belgium, and thank you for this very interesting show which has given me the pleasure of discovering you as well. I am a great enthusiast of Free League's Year Zero Engine, and I own all the franchises. Other players and Game Masters often ask me why I bought The Walking Dead RPG since I already have the rules through the other games. I tell them that it brings really interesting new mechanics: threat management (which I love), fighting against a horde, but also the system of emotional anchors and the monologue to the departed. The YZE allows combining mechanics from other franchises, such as oxygen and energy management from the Alien RPG. And that is really awesome ! Best regards.

Big Trouble in Little China is still maybe my favourite film. I should check out some other Carpenter movies. I think Jack Burton has decent stats (maybe not IQ), he just brought a 150 point character to a 225 point game! Fortunately he sunk a lot of points into luck!

This is super cool! I think some individual films of Carpenter are fairly well recognized, but his body of work as a whole is criminally underrated! Please talk about making an RPG from Escape from New York!

It's not legacy D&D it's 1981 Runequest (as you say, or Magic World from Chaosium's Worlds of Wonder). The Mallard is a direct lift from Runequest. Rules such as, costs to cast spells; anyone can learn magic; skills, less-than-or-equal to; improve skills by rolling over the level on D20; armour soaks up damage rather than affecting an armour class; slooooow character advancement. Brilliant game. Jolly good review, thank you.

Loved it for all the reasons you gave. A real change from ADnD - first time two of us ran up against an Orc we died Really quickly :-) . My main dislike was in the character creation - book was beautiful but poorly laid out, you had to flip back and forth to find the tables you needed. I would play it today under a good GM, would no want to run it. Enjoyed hearing you discuss it.

How often we went out to search for those herbs! Mirenna berry junkies:) I think a big plus for Merp was the concreteness of the rules, wounds are real wounds, herbs have names. That made the world so much more real than abstract hit points and some unnamed “healing herbs”

I love Merp, it has its flaws, especially when evoking mood, but the combat system and the character creation are so great. Tried to play TOR but ti me it’s like playing in a straight jacked if horrible abstract rules. Hate it, feel like Sauron made it to dominate all life. Those social conflict rules🤦🏻‍♂️

I like the character sheet is more easy to read and more print friendly but... they need to make the upper part a little smaller to make the weapon list more larger (aka more weapons). Also the skill list... maybe they will have to consider to remove some skills from the game because 56 skills isn't happening in that character sheet. I hope for the cyberware part is finally a 1 cell list and not multiple cell boxes like the base version.
