Really great video! I’m wondering if you’ve ever used two colors of die on the PVC pipe techniques, for example immersing in one color, then while still wet, immersing that same material in another color of that spectrum?
@JustineSilva4 күн бұрын
I have! I should probably make another video on dip dyeing shibori! It's not that different than the video I've shown! You can also use a squeeze bottle to apply the second color - like a mustard bottle. Thanks for watching :)

Hi thanks for the nice vídeo, So you reckon the best way to spread the quimics on the fabric is by putting the fabric inside the bowl/bucket where the chemicals are , then spreading the quimics with a brush or some tool over the fabric?
@JustineSilva8 күн бұрын
I found it easiest to put it in the bowl, because my piece of fabric was pretty big. You can probably get away with brushing if you find that easier!

how do you keep the print from fading after you wash it?

My canvas was the Heavy Duty dropcloth from Home Depot. It has a lot of imperfections, but I wanted a simple canvas to play around on. You can get better quality from Blick!

I wish I found this video awhile ago. I tried making some Wool Pants modeled after my favorite Sweatpants. The Push Pins through the fabric to the pattern would have yielded much better results for me. The "Behind and Crotch" area came out too tight with my method. Good thing I used a low quality Wool Blend Fabric on my first attempt. I view my mistakes as a learning opportunity. Thanks for the Tutorial!

You did an awesome job! I got bitten by the sewing bug a few years ago and purchased the same HD Singer that you have. My first 2 clothing projects were a Wool Vest and a Canvas Anorak. Since then I've made several Hiking Kit Bags . I really want to upgrade my Machine to an Industrial version to make a Heavy Duty Backpack. I have already sketched out my design. I will "Sub" and check out your other videos.

@JustineSilva27 күн бұрын
I think I may have pre-soaked in Soda Ash, but I'm not sure I said so in the video. I like the one that Jacquard makes. You can also use white vinegar to help bind the dye to your fabric!

I have some cotton blend white curtains from IKEA. Does this work on blended fabrics? Thanks
@JustineSilva27 күн бұрын
The dye should bind to the natural fibers, but I'm not totally sure about the synthetics. Always worth a shot - it could totally work - especially since the curtains probably won't get much wear and tear through washing etc. Just keep in mind that they may fade from the sun in time - Mine are still bright and vibrant 2 years later, but they're in a low light area. Good luck!

@JustineSilva13 күн бұрын
Hi Anna! at :24 seconds in you can see the rough measurements. Looks like about 22" L x 8" on the short side of the triangle. I've since given these away to Mark & Sam, so I couldn't measure them off hand. Hope that helps!
@Lucy33129 күн бұрын
Great tutorial - just wondering what size your pieces of fabric were? I'd like to try it with a couple of metres and then make some clothes with it. Would this be doable? Thanks!
@JustineSilva27 күн бұрын
Hi Lucy, mine was roughly 2'W x 6'L, but I've done much larger - like bed sheet size! You'll probably need to play around with a folding technique to best fit the size of your fabric. If you're planning on doing the wrap technique, it's much easier to use smaller pieces of fabric and piece them together for a consistent color throughout!

@JustineSilva27 күн бұрын
I like the Procion Dyes too! I always follow whatever the directions say... but I'm pretty loose about how long I leave my stuff in. I'll check periodically, but if I want it darker, I'll just leave it in longer! Good luck!

Your collar stand which holds the collar should be identical or you would have an uneven coat when buttoning your coat.

Hello Justine! This is a great tutorial for beginners, but this is NOT Shibori! This is Batik dyeing. Shibori is much more elaborate, it takes widely more time and expertise, is nothing you can do in 1/2 hour.
@JustineSilvaАй бұрын
Hi Andrea, this is actually a form of Shibori. Traditional Shibori is done by one of two methods 1) folding and adding resists, or 2) tying off/ binding parts of the fabric. In Japan it's traditionally done with natural indigo dye, which I mention I'm not covering in this video - it's above my skillset. There are many far more skilled artisans, and my video is meant for beginners. Also, to clarify, the video itself is 17 minutes edited.. the whole process did not take me 1/2 hour. Batik dyeing is another form of 'resist' dyeing, but it uses melted wax to essential draw patterns onto fabric, which keeps those areas from absorbing dye. Hope that helps!

STOLE THIS IDEA FROM TINA Ye and Dani! What’s with the Internet Manuel just use each other’s ideas as Content! pick up some thing original for once ❤
@JustineSilvaАй бұрын
Hi Karen! I want to clarify, that I think Tina, Dani and I were all inspired by the ORIGINAL melted disco balls designed by Rotganzen and design-queen Kelly Wearstler. They retail for thousands of dollars, which I can't afford, so I wanted to make my own and share my process in doing so. If I'm not mistaken, I also think the way I made mine is different- they used cardboard... right? (Cant remember but I'm almost positive). I don't take ripping off other artists lightly, which is why I would never reproduce these for sale, because they're not my idea - I also never claimed them to be. I make content on my channel for fun, and made this video because 1) I wanted to, and 2) I wanted to share how I work with foam. Anyways, thanks for watching & engaging with my content - I look forward to seeing your next video!

Mine haven't faded since I made this video - I'd make sure you rinse the light sensitive chemicals all the way out, otherwise the whites will eventually begin to turn blue.
