Great overview of your automations. Some of it is over my head at the moment because I have not delved into HomeAssistant yet. What brought me to your video was a search for using an 841LM without a GDO. I hope to use a simple 12V wifi relay to control the 841LM on a manual garage door. My question for you is… is there a minimum amount of time voltage must be applied to the lock to open/close it? And how do you determine it’s current state?

Dump 👎 your Comcast cable stock because people are dumping their expensive cable service like a bad habit and streaming content for far less money. I did and saved over $100

All this tech and still a lousy internet connection. LOL Thanks for sharing this Paul. I came here to hear your info on the Sec+2.0 and rolling codes over the wire, which is ridiculous. Many of us are having issues with your MQTT firmware implementation(s) where it just stops controlling.

Does anybody have an idea on where is the NGINX addon stored nowadays? It looks like it's different now as I can't find it nowhere (needless to say that it was not in /usr/share/hassio/share/nginx_proxy/). Btw I am trying to get this working for a Dahua VTO doorbell. :)

I was able to workaround the problems mentioned in the video by getting bluetooth aux and couple of cable connectors. For Bluetooth aux i got the Anker one powered by usb. Then from the bluetooth aux connected a aux to rca cable left/right. At the end of each left right rca pin, connected a rca to aux adapter which in turn was fed to google home speakers left and right respectively. Overall it costed around 20$ for bluetooth aux and cables. I have connected these speakers Bluetooth aux to my tv. Got two of these speakers in fb market for 180$. Overall I am impressed with the sound quality for the 200$ i spent 😊..

The worst thing about Comcast is the extortion data cap fee. The second is the pathetic upload speed.

It looks like the older 4-leg version also didn't have the 45 degree braces that your desk has (I imagine this is for side-to-side stability).

I'd suggest picking up an Everything Presence Lite for your person detection. Deploying Frigate's human detection is neat, but you might get more general use for detecting people in a zone this way and you free up that camera.

I am really considering purchasing this desk. My one big concern is from the looks of things the back leaves no space to mount clamps. I noticed you may have removed the center of the last support beam to work around this issue. Is this ok to do? I saw Upline offers a arm with a clamp that supports up to 3.75" of thickness. Is that something that could cover the thickness of a 1.5" butcher top and the thickness of the beam underneath or is removing that beam really the only option?

Check with another computer with a 2.5Gbit ethernet contact connected directly via CAT cable. If yo do not get close to the advertised speed, you should call or post a complaint. The problem can be a bottleneck in your own gear

How do you select the security option (1+, 2, etc). I am configuring using mqtt, but no security options show during the setup/configuration. Suggestions?
@daviddonnelly8406
@daviddonnelly8406 6 ай бұрын
I think it has been resolved and for community information: Long story - very short. Reflashed ratgdo for mqtt. All went very well. On the ratgdo web page, at the bottom, there is a Control Protocol selection. I totally missed this (MY BAD - BIG TIME). I saw and focused on the firmware update at the top of the page. (tunnel vision) However, I selected Security +1, and then updated the firmware to V2.1. The system was updated and rebooted. However, the garage door would not respond. So - reflashed, firmware reinstall complete, selected Security +1, DID NOT update the firmware to V2.1 and ratgdo works. So, for me anyway, the firmware update is titled: ratgdo_esp8266_v2.1.bin. And the update description would seem to indicate I need to update as I am using Home Assistant. But I now believe the update label means the firmware update is for esphome….not mqtt. So, as of right now, ratgdo works as advertised.

Great video. I have installed ratgdo without any issues on my Home Assistant. However, the garage door will not open or close. All existing remotes work. Verified all wiring. Obstruction sensor in ratgdo reports when obstructed and when clear. But garage door will not respond from Home Assistant. Any suggestions on troubleshooting?

@la7dfa

It could be the PC or switch that is limited to Gbit. Check the properties for your ethernet card. If it says more than one Gigabit, you should be fine. Check the switch, is it a 2.5Gbit switch or more? If so I would try to replace the ethernet cables. You can use some temporary or omit the switch.

I got both of mine very quickly and got them working very quickly as well. Was working with Netgear on a few things and they gave me a beta firmware upgrade which reset a lot of my devices including the RATGDOs. Didn't anticipate this and wasn't able to catch the last rolling codes of either garage door. If anyone knows of a link or how I can resolve this I'd appreciate it, otherwise I'm stuck with both RATGDO devices telling me there's an obstruction and I can't use them anymore. Which kinda blows...

We all know, and accept, that modern alarm systems have tamper-proof sensors so burglars have a harder job in trying to disable the alarm system and enter my building. We also buy expensive cylinder locks that are tamper proof and pay extra money for those locks to have a certain "security" logo on it. Yet, Paul finds it strange that the simple 2-wire button on wired garage door remotes is replaced by a more secure one. Opening the garage door using a 2-wire switch seems a next level of allowing burglars to enter my house 😲

Unfortunately after about 15 minutes I had to stop listening to Paul's very interesting explanations. The audio quality of that video call is bad enough to distract me from listening to the content of his story. If there is any way to improve this and share it again, I really love to listen to this. P.s: It's amazing how we can watch a 4k movie with surround sound that looks and sounds perfect. Yet, a simple video call always seems to have problems.

I find they have a habit of joining a wifi on 2.4 and then after time just over to 5 and then the stereo breaks! Google could fix this by giving you options for which Wifi to operate on but then we are talking about Google so it will never happen!

You clearly didn’t listen to the interview. The hardware schematic alone will give you nothing. And why marginalize Paul’s work by thinking he should give anything away for free? His solution is a device you buy that’s not dependent on anything else unlike MyQ, Ring, etc etc
