First of all, thank you very much for the videos. I live in Brazil and we don't have this material about music available here. Is the mentioned textbook available for purchase? Where can I find it?

I have to respectfully disagree with some information. When he speaks of Nuemes, he shows a picture of square notation. The first Nuemes indeed did not show the exact pitches but lines that went up and down, just reminding you of the melody. But in the picture we do see a notation that shows exact notation of pitches.

I've just fiound this site - quite late I admit. I wonder where and how to find the music Mr. Adams refers to in his lectures.

Wouldn't you say Wagner was the actual transitional composer between Romanticism and Post-Romanticism?

Thanks for these videos - I know nothing of this period.

Credibility undermined right from the start adding the entirely superfluous baptismal ‘Franz’ to the composer’s name; it’s *Joseph Haydn.*

This is a bit late, but...Holy Mass was said once per day..what you are referring to is The Divine Office (official prayer of The Church), of which there were seven offices, occurring around the times that you've stated..there was also Matins, which was an Office that was chanted around 2AM, in a set a three Nocturnes...this pattern is still followed in Monasteries today..I will qualify that public Mass was said once a day, but following that, votive Low Masses for special reasons, causes, or for the souls, or a single soul, in Purgatory, could and was said multiple times, especially in Monasteries and especially Chantry's (places set up specifically for this purpose), but these were usually recited alone, with just the priest. No faithful present, not even a server. Again this is still done today as well..it's called a Missa Solitaria, and is done in current Chantry's, called Purgatorial Society's.
