I wanted to get a Garberg. I really like the knife, but I picked up a new Companion HD carbon and a Kansbol stainless today for less than the asking price of a Garberg. So, yeah.

Hey! Thanks for the review! Did you get yours straight from the manufacturer? If so, how long did shipping take and was there any import fees/issues? Thanks!

Wisdom is gained by being in the wilderness. Stuff doesn't make the wilderness experience happen. Oneness wilderness has nothing to do with slitting wood with a knife. Finding kindling is more fun than finding wood that needs processing. I lived in Hell's Canyon for a year. That's a real wilderness experience.

You forgot the biggest reason you suggest these other knifes. You are being paid to support them. I'll buy a Mora over any of those knives. Disagree with what you said. BTW $100 - $150 for a quality knife that will last is not a lot to pay. Unless you are a child and can only pay $25 for your first quality knife....any adult can pay what a Garberg costs and not even flinch for an item that will outlast your lifetime. I do not agree with anything you have presented here.

Hi Dave, I really understand why you went for a premium, I used to buy budget knives, bought alot of Jokers, which are excellent knives, even bought the Brisa 115 Trapper in Elmax as is yours, but there was always something that bothered me. The handle on Brisa was too slender for me (the 95 has a thicker handle which is a paradox), so I ended up buying LT Wright Genesis in scandi and that was it, I sold every other bushcraft knife (10+ pieces). Now I own only LT wright genesis, LT GNS in Sabre, LT Illuminous 5 and ESEE 5. I highly recomend LT Wright knives, they are probably double the price of Brisa, but man, the urge to try new knives stoped after I started using them. 🙂

Beautiful small axe. But too expensive, and the handle should be 4 inches longer, in my opinion. A 700 to 900 gram Rinaldi, Mueller, Ochsenkopf, or Hultafors is still portable and relatively light but much more efficient.

Garberg is not normal Mora, it is tactical, with bone crusher, and many gears for use. Be shure, it is cheap for what that knife is capable to do! Many soldiers want to carry Gb, it is best of the best of the best in serious sitches!

Garberg is one of the worst knifes for me personal because of the ergonomics and steel choice. The pommel grinds in to my hand and its just a slippery bad plastic handle, i hated it. I am aware that I have long fingers/big hands but I cant be the only one wich garberg doesnt fit

There is some great advice here. I personally prefer the right tool for each job, over an all in one tool. But buying and trying different lengths, steels, and grinds helped me settle on what I prefer for each task and is all part of the fun. But as the saying goes, the tool you have on you in an emergency is the right/best tool. But the main takeaway is sure you can have "the best" Axe, Saw, and knives when its convenient to make your life easier, but knowing how to use one tool in a variety of ways, is the real skill you need when shtf. I would rather have a cheap heavy duty Mora that I can put through hell and service over and over again, than choose a Rockstead I would be reluctant to really abuse because I don't know it's limits.

Why would you dislike the snap on the Terava? You can leave it unsnapped, as you mentioned, for convenience, but you can also snap ot for added security. That's a win-win in my book. Much better than open top sheathes on most bushcraft knives that can't be made more secure.

I agree but the Garberg is not a smart design. The Garberg has no finger guard, and on a hard-use knife that is sheer stupidity. Most hard use/survival knives have it -- for good reason.

Great video man. Ironically, the newbies will tend to buy every expensive gadget they can find without realizing that it won't make them better at bushcraft.

Personally, I think the Garberg's handle and sheath are excellent. I do like the Kansbol handle better which is identical to the Garberg except it is more sticky or gripping than the Garberg. Almost like a rubberized material rather than plastic. Visually they are identical. Honestly, I have a LT Wright scandi grind with A2 steel and I don't find it performs any better than my Garberg carbon and the LT Wright cost me $200+ more than the Mora. At $60-$70 the Mora Garberg is a steal and on par with knives in the $200 range. Mora has a winner with the Garberg and Kansbol lineup and would benefit from upgrading the steels in these two models. Maybe take a lesson out of Fallkniven or Spydercos playbook. People will buy it for the steel and the added performance. However, using marketing trickery like with the Ash series by using the same steel as the cheaper models but charging a premium just isn't going to work.

I've been tempted by the garberg many times, but I still have yet to be left wanting by my Classic #1. When the time does come to replace the little dude, I'll probably get another, or perhaps a Companion. If I need to do some heavy cutting, I have my hatchet or scraemsax for that.

it is important to have a good knife when you are in wilderness, and good knives are expensive...it is important the size, the material they are made off and other characteristics...classic video of someone just talking and doing nothing practical...the only objective is to gain views telling random things copied by other fake bushcrafters and not to spread knowledge
@OutdoorLover-e6u
@OutdoorLover-e6u Ай бұрын
carbon steel knife is not recommended for bushcraft, mora 511 is more for carpentry...and buying a fire starter is not really "bushcraft" while you have a huge amount of fire starters in the nature, also in wet conditions
