Nice work, enjoy! I am a fellow BC based bushcrafter, the only thing I would add is some fishing gear and a cigar. Oh my wife said to bring a satellite locator☺

For me, I minimize forgetting items by categorizing. Shelter-what do I need. Fire- what do I need. Food/cooking- what do I need. Hydration- what do I need. Sleep/Comfort-what do I need. Sanitary-what do I need. Tools-what do I need. Safety - what do I need. Security- what do I need. I write these questions on a laminated 3X5 card. Check off each one when items are collected. Especially useful for the long trips. I get made fun of a lot of the time, but I have all the stuff I need when we get to camp while everyone else is cussing up a storm because they forgot to bring a knife or eating utensil or their inflatable mat.

Hey that's a great system especially for a multi day back pack trip or something where you really don't want to forget anything. Thanks for the tip

@@TheDaveDryden got that from my military time. You got kicked around pretty good if you forgot something you were supposed to have. Plus, this way I made sure I had my personal comfort items.

FYI- radio with a pullout antenna is hollow so just cut off the nob on top and you've got a pocket bellow. Mine has lasted years. See you in the next one, Dave 👍 😊

Hi there, I like your infectious good humour. Two questions, firstly, what food and beverages are you taking ? Secondly, clothing and equipment, do you take/wear snow gaiters ? TIA.
@TheDaveDryden

Food and drink: trail mix, sausages, ground beef and cabbage stew, instant coffee, green tea, water. Clothes, I'll have Gum boots on and rain pants/jacket as a shell, an old snowboarding jacket as well, otherwise just civilian clothes underneath. No gaiters, I'm honestly not too prepared for a lot of snow as we don't get a ton of it on the island. Just enough to make it challenging

@@TheDaveDryden Thank you for such a comprehensive reply, which leads to another question , is the ground beef and cabbage stew purchased, or home made ? Reason I asked about the gaiters is that everyone in Scotland, where I live, wears them in the autumn and winter for warmth and to keep boots,socks, dry, not necessarily for snow only but to help when crossing streams and boggy,marshy ground. To me , it looks odd to see folk venturing outdoors without wearing them, might be a cultural thing. Thanks again.

@@clivedunning4317 homemade and precooked so if I don't get a fire going I can still eat it lol. I honestly never wear gaitors but that isn't a reason not to wear them. My gum boots are high enough and waterproof for what I'm doing. If I was multi day hiking and mud was a guarantee I'd be wearing them

@@TheDaveDryden Funny you should say that you like the capability to eat your food cold, if necessary. Just been watching a guy cursing his gas stove for not working (above the woodline) and not being able to re-hydrate his freeze dried evening meal.

@@clivedunning4317 yup I've had it happen. A Big bag of trail mix and precooked food will always help if that happens
