shocking the council just demolish these flats in glasgow rather than retro fitting them, but of course back handers and other council cons makes sure that dont happen. Wait, what? you want a view and a unique viewpoint of your own city? na , you need money for that, go live glasgow harbour 1500 a month, your a council peasent, you will be ground and road level only. i still live in high flats, and used to live in the red rd. The view point you get of the city is unique and disgrace they are turning that into an elite thing.

This was one of the best town centres in Scotland in the 1970’s/80’s … full of great shops, Christmas displays were incredible, does anyone remember the Santa’s doing acrobats above the elevators? I Spent many an hour exploring every little nook and cranny of this place whilst growing up in Cumbernauld. The Wm Lo cafe had the world best milkshakes. The library was just phenomenal. The fish shop at the top of the elevators was superb! The building stood like a Goliath in the middle of Cumbernauld and has been destroyed year after year by NL council. It’s an absolute disgrace what they have done to an iconic building!

The nostalgia of the still shots from the past are so full of comfort, of knowing, of a time when life seemed simpler than the future of unknowing which is full of an unease. The failures of the local councils are what are the destruction of these vertical villages. What was required in each building was a community room, a cafe, a housing office, a shop, dentists, Drs etc; to just put people in these spaces with no infrastructure which was afforded to those in schemes is what was the biggest failure and ultimately the demise of the buildings itself. Beautiful film and a great highlight of human failings in social housing residents.

My goodness professor- assuming you don’t live here, it’s fine for you to advocate for its regeneration while you jump in your car and head home , no doubt to a leafy suburb. Let’s take lots of pictures and knock it down. Cumbernauld has grown and developed and deserves a better civic space

@matthewmckellar698 During my time working in CDC, all the designers were encouraged to live in the town by the deputy chief architect who lived with his family in Lochlea Road and latterly in the Village.

So I disagree with it being busier as people didn’t have cars, they did. It was busier because it used to have decent shops. Mothercare, John Menzies, Halfords, boots, shoe shops, wimpy , scan … if there were decent shops it would still be busy

I am with you Margaret on this! C mon all you people in positions of private and governmental power and influence over schemes in situations of lack akin to this. You are being rallied to accept this invitation to accept this golden opportunity to extend your reach into the hearts of residents of Dalmarnock both past and present. I urge you to prove your worth by setting the example to your fellow office bearers as to how you believe prospective constituents should be treated. Step out in faith by putting your money where your mouth is. Set your agenda to include viable strategies for the purposes of giving greater increase to the life chances of others. In the interests of serving the greater good this will assist the people of Dalmarnock to create an easily recognised nucleus to their scheme which will enable all generations to build community that will exist to provide a healing and long lasting future social legacy. Amen!

See as a Bulgarian I take a bit of an issue with the Battle of the Shipka Pass being described as simply a "battle between the Russians and the Turks", given that 2/3 of the force opposing the Turks was actually Bulgarian volunteers (opalchentsi) who were fundamental to winning the battle. Very sad that there's no street with a Bulgarian name in Glasgow now, especially as it seems Schipka Pass was a fascinating place with beautiful architecture 😢

Her experience - and that of others in Dalmarnock - was a disgrace. Yet more social cleansing. Why did the housing association properties and shops need to be demolished? They haven't been replaced. I followed her story closely, as well as the behaviour of the local government politicians The latter were corrupt, arrogant and self serving. Thanks Chris for this. I'm glad Margaret is back - but she should be in a house she owns like she did before!
