I remember a couple years back when someone started making the contour gauge with 3D printer. It was brand new, original idea. Except for the one on my grandpa's workbench. A lot smaller and metal but same thing.

I'm watching this because I have the same saw on its way to me, and I have to say I'd already had concerns about the motor. The F2 will replace a DeWalt 7491-XE jobsite saw that has a 2000w motor compared to the F2's 1300W. That's quite a difference, and one I hadn't noticed until the saw was on its way. The DeWalt saw is surprisingly capable, and with a good sharp blade, it can cut full depth semi-hardwood if I don't push too hard. I have a feeling that I am going to be finding myself annoyed about that 1300W motor. BTW I am in New Zealand and our power is 240V

There are lots of reasons I chose to go with this saw. It's 10" blade with 5/8" spindle is the same as my current DeWalt saw, so all of my blades, including a DeWalt dado set, will fit. I have more faith that the fence is going to keep square and be accurate than other saws I've used. That includes two Hafco saws bought from Machinery House here in NZ. The fences on all of those saws are hopeless, and not even close as good as the rack & pinion fence on my DeWalt saw. I can remove and refit the fence on my DeWalt saw and be 100% sure that it will cut within a tenth of a mm.

@@TheMcKeelsWoodworks I am mostly loving it so far. It is incredibly smooth, and significantly less noisy than the DeWalt jobsite saw I have been using up till now . In fact it is definitely quieter than the Hafco saws I have used at my local Menz Shed. I miss the rack and pinion fence of the DeWalt saw, but I am used to T-type fences so knew what to expect. I have no idea why they would sell a new saw with a 40 tooth blade. The first time I tried a rip cut with it - even though I expected what was going to happen - I was still shocked by how quickly it gave up and started burning the timber. I had a nearly new 24T combination blade which is sooooo much nicer and more useful. OK, the one thing I am not happy about is extraction. To start with, the extraction was close to zero effectiveness. I am only using the 4 inch port with the smaller port taped off. Even after I also taped off the gaping hole which allows the blade to tilt, it still doesn't seen to work well. I have a bigger, more powerful extractor on my thicknesser/planer, so I'll try that, but right now my shop has become as dusty as the early days before I had proper dust extractors. They could surely have worked out some sort of gromet for the 45° tilt hole at the front! I feel like I am missing another big gap somewhere, because the extraction should be more effective. I might have to resort to the overhead hood thing, but I'll either remove the anti-kickback cams, or round off their teeth a good bit.

If you have loads of berries or tomatoes, you may want to invest in a hand-crank strainer. I have a Villaware which is no longer made, but there are other brands. I have 3 different size attachments for different fruit. You can process a lot fast.

Hi, loved the camera work! I felt like I was in a 1st person woodworking game, lol. I'm considering the Griz too, and wonder if changing to hook & loop belts would be less work for the machine to feed? (because of the air space/less roller pressure from what I read).

If you blitz the blackberries in a blender for a few seconds, straining the seeds out becomes a real doddle. You can almost shake it clear. I speak from experience. Having worn out my elbows and wrists making seedless blackberry sorbets, I tried this and *never again* will I push it through the sieve! So far this year I've made 3 batches of sorbet, 4 bottles of squash/cordial, frozen bag after bag of loose fruits, given away several punnets (about 1lb each), now I'm looking at jams - and there's still a ton to pick, even though the birds are helping themselves! What a year for the berries!

You have given me pause for thought regards the 1.75hp motor bogging down. I have been using a DeWalt jobsite saw for several years now, which has a 2hp motor, and I can't say it has ever struggled, even with some very dense hard and heavy timber. It never occurred to me the the F2 might struggle. Is your saw 110V or 220V? Does that make any difference? I am in NZ and we only have 240v or 415V three phase.

Question about the switch. Why is the switch needed? Just so that you can shut it off so the relay does not over heat? I bought the relay and it came with a heat sink device but there is no way that device will fit in the deep electrical box. If someone has to remember to go to the dust collector to shut off the switch for the relay or even put the switch somewhere close to where you work, then I am not getting the idea of automating the DC to come on by opening a blast gate. I mean I get the convenience of any blast gate opening would turn on the dust collector and shut it off, but then we have to remember to flip that switch. I am not liking that option because then it would be easy to forget to turn it off. I have a remote for my DC and after watching several other videos on doing what you have done, and after wiring everything to make this blast gate automation, I am now stuck with the idea of having to remember to turn off a switch for something you cannot see or hear running. I was thinking why couldn't I have use an alexa enabled switch instead of the one I bought. That way maybe I could out some automation in place that says if the switch is on for a certain period of time, turn off the switch or send me an alert that it is on for say 30 minutes or an hour. Thoughts?

Yes that doesn’t make sense. I think his problem ripping the oak had a lot to do with the blade he used. He said in a different comment that he uses a cheap combination blade well if you are going to rip a piece of hardwood like that oak piece he should put in a good ripping blade.

I keep a large bird coup with several chickens, roosters, ducks, and a turkey.. we have them separated into groups by age and we recently got two duck hatchlings at ab 3 weeks old… they’re currently ab 5-6 weeks old and unfortunately, something has been breaking into our coup and hurting(killing) our birds.. the night before last, whatever it was, beheaded one of our two young ducklings… I found the rodent’s entry point and filled/covered it with heavy rocks, secured the chicks in that enclosure and last night, I secured the remaining duckling.. I didn’t get to do all that yesterday until dusk.. so I guess, in the dark, I didn’t realize the remaining duckling is also injured. There’s no way he could’ve done this to himself in the enclosure I secured him in last night. So I’m reckoning that this duckling tried to help his brother during this attack the other night and got himself either bit or scratched as well. I went to let him out of the enclosure I put him in last night and noticed blood on his bill and on his foot, as well as scattered throughout the hay in their enclosure.. so I figured I’d take all the hay out, and clean out the entire enclosure to get the blood and it’s smell out of what’s essentially this duck’s bed.. and I figured when I was done with that, I’d take this duckling and give him a bath so he isn’t stuck smelling his brother’s blood.. when I let him out of his enclosure this morning, he went straight to a corner in the coup and laid down, he isn’t making much vocal noise and at first, I just thought he was emotionally traumatized.. but his left wing is cut open in at least two locations. I’m still not quite sure how bad the injury is but I don’t think it’s life threatening. However, Ik an infection could change that. What do I do to clean him and dress his wounds? I was initially planning on bathing him with dawn dish soap but now that it’s apparent that he has an open flesh wound, idk if that’s safe to use. ANY AND ALL ADVICE IS GRACIOUSLY WELCOME.

Wow! Sorry to hear about your situation. We had chickens for about a year without any little visitors, but the first week we had ducks there were multiple times where predators came. A snake ate of the ducklings. A dog attacked another. And big birds took the others. . . I believe it is their smell. Predators can smell them and they are practically defenseless so it makes for an easy meal. My advice is to let your duck rest and slowly build his strength. Ducks are really tough and they heal quickly. But how to keep them safe. Unfortunately, I don't have any ideas because our cage was sealed tight and animals still found a way. Please let us know the end of your story!
