Forever wasn't a success for a few reasons. First of all it wasn't pop music. They did an album of R&B tracks which doesn't sell as good as pop music. Also they did nothing to promote this album. It was obvious their heart wasn't in it. Especially after Geri left they should have been everywhere looking like they were more bonded than ever. Lastly they waited WAY too long to release another album. To wait 3 years after Spice World just wasn't smart if they cared about continued success. I know a lot of people won't like this part but.... It really didn't help the band that 2 of the members were getting pregnant and slowing down their progress of making new music. That really took a toll on the band for sure. The Spice Girls could have made a couple more good albums if they hadn't imploded so badly. Oh yeah. Who told them that it was ok to not have a manager??? Absolutely ridiculous

Madonna, like her or not, is an artist. She at no point in her career wept over sales or haters. The level of success she has achieved somehow made her a target and oddly enough an excuse to deny her any artistic integrity. She is an incredible woman. Im happy to still be on the Madonna journey.

I wonder if many people out there know about the quick rise and fall of Ace Of Base, the Swedish pop band mainly active in 1993-1995. They released one of the top selling albums of all time, out of nowhere, casually releasing 3-4 of the best pop songs ever, got nominated for a grammy and then basically disappeared. Linn Berggren was the main vocalist of these tracks and helped shape the songs. She had undeniable talent and beauty, yet she was very shy, never wanted to be a singer or have any fame, and had a fear of flying which made her hate touring...then on top of that, in 1994, a psychopath broke into her home to try and attack her with a knife and ended up attacking her sister and mother, which really freaked her out obviously and shortly after she dropped out of the band entirely. Certainly a strange success story for a band and makes me wonder what could've been under different circumstances. But I guess we were lucky to at least get those gems they did create together on the first albums together.

I think putting multiple genres in an album might be one of the reasons to get low critic reviews. In her prism album roar is pop, unconditionally is ballad, dark horse is hip hop, birthday is disco and This Is How We Do is a dance pop. All the singles are of different genres and the album track are mostly acoustic ballads. Same with teenage dream, witness and smile. I think she needs to stick to her roots and into a specific genre

What a load of Rubbish, there were more people that didn`t listen to the stars of the past then it is people who don`t listen to stars of the 2020`s,in other words the stars of today is more monocultural than before, the reason that all «Boomers» like you that are past their prime say that «music back in the day were so much better» is just some stupid nostalgia nonsense bait, big stars are made frequently today like Olivia Rodrigo,Chapell Roan,Gracie Abrams,Sabrina Carpenter,Dua Lipa,Lewis Capaldi,Noah Kahan(eventhough none of them is not pop at all) etc… Stars of the 2000`s like Lady Gaga,Britney Spears,Beyoncé,Katy Perry didn`t write their own songs at all exept Taylor Swift which is not a pop artist Now it is cool again for artists to write their own stuff unlike in the past when most artists from the 50`s to the 2010`s had professional songwriters writing song for them like artists like Elvis,Frank Sinatra,Jerry Lee Lewis,Rihanna,Britney Spears etc… While in The 2020`s most artists write their own songs instead of having professional songwriters writing for them

One of the biggest reasons why Pop is dead is because everything has been done before so it’s extremely difficult to be original. These new Pop stars are not innovative and original regarding their image and sound. The new Pop Stars are busy trying to be like music icons of the past. There needs to be that one Pop star that comes into the game with a new image and sound that will rejuvenate and change Pop forever. But, I don't see that happening anytime soon. 😢😭🥺

Yeah, even when considering patriarchal industries and what Madonna may had to deal with, to be so rude and bratty to order people when they can go to the bathroom at the risk of crapping their pants may show a sign of desperation of wanting to be successful at the risk of degrading others, with all due respect to Madonna herself, is prob when it's taking things too far. lol

"American Life" is a spectacular album. "Confessions" is overrated. It's not bad at all, but it isn't as polished and innovative as "American Life." "Hard Candy" is good, but not good enough. And ALL her subsequent albums (no exceptions) are mediocre and irrelevant. Her career is over.

as a lamb, i spent a lot of time on twitter a few years ago interacting with some devoted gay mariah stans. they were often really cruel to her (mocking her weight, her vocal decline) but also if she were to release a song they would be the first to buy it on itunes and then stream it on spotify. some had been collecting mimi memorabilia since the 90s. it was a weird combination of possessiveness and admiration, most likely this had more to do with the stan twitter environment than gayness per se, but it did come to my mind after watching this. funnily enough some of them assumed i too was a gay man because of my interest in mariah, cher, madonna etc, but am a straight woman. also, does taylor swift truly have a large gay fanbase? i don't listen to her music, but something about her just seems like it appeals more to women and girls. for instance while she may be glam, she doesn't really do sexy, c*nty style looks, which imo appeal to gay and straight men (in different ways). just curious

I'm still convinced that THE INDUSTRY has not really accepted her that is why she's always overlooked for any BEST SONG NOMINATIONS. She has brilliantly written & recorded some of the best movie sound tracks ever & she has always been passed over? Why? well I know why but can't Publicly state or write about it right now? It just wouldn't be fair as to my loyalty towards her. Madonna could have had such a brilliant movie film career & in part, it's not really her entire fault? it's just as well as the hip hot influential individuals at certain times in her career. She was just turned in the wrong way? I will stated here, though. Saome of the film movie projects that she either lost or was passed over or & even turned down, were The Fabulous Baker Boys which Michelle Pfifer got, Music In My Heart fired from & replaced by the great Oscar winner, Meryl Streep, Chicago done by Catheren Zeta Jones, she initially wanted to do Showgirls but that was a huge flop, other rumored film movie projects, were even possibly rumored considered, The Specialist with Sylvester Stallone that Sharon Stone ended up doing, another was Notting Hill with Julia Roberts & really there more quite a few? Madonna was always mentioned for dozens of other film projects, but for whatever reasons that are only known in her circle & with inside INDUSTRY & EXECUTIVE INSIDERS, she & ultimately was blacklisted for some really great supreme roles that should been given to her if only everything & everybody would have been on the sane page? I mean Madonna is a great star & one of the most shining superstars of our timer over the past 40 years & I do believe in her talent & do feel very that once her screenplay is properly & superbly completed & not to be persuaded by any studio or her even her own "circle?& please Guy Oseary, let her & please help her convinced Universal or any other studio to do it for th BIG SCREEN?

What people doesn't realize is that, it wasn't easy back then to sell. You are getting head to head with MJ, let alone some already established legends are out it as well selling so for her to be the biggest female artist literally from a nobody ( didn't marry an executive label head, not from a girl group, not from a duo, didn't have musical connections from big label nor had parent's backing her up). She's a force at the time.

#1. All pop singers use autotune to sing. Autotune makes the singing voices sound not catchy, and even sound bland. Unlike singing, autotune takes up no real talent.

The Spirit Indestructible is Nelly's lost masterpiece. So many great songs and sounds and if you collect all the extra tracks around that album it should have been a double album. Nelly's "White Album" should still be re-released for record store day and let people rediscover it's music.

HUGE mistake. Terrible album. It's the album she made to try to get Guy Ritchie to like her music, in much the same way that she has all these rappers on her current music. Madonna as of late (2008- now) attempts to get her children to like her music, by using rent-a rappers. Which is a strategy that has never worked for her. I think hardcore fans try desperately to never project failure, in much the same way Madonna does. But this album was a low point in her career & discography. She came back strong with the Re-Invention tour, but let's face it, even Madonna knows deep in her heart, it was a low point. If it wasn't, she would have opened the show with a track from this album. Up until then, every Madonna tour opened with a track from her latest studio album, this tour bucks that trend. Which feels less like an artistic choice and more like a subtle way of her admitting somewhat defeated with the album. The Reinvention tour is one of her strongest tours in my opinion, but the low points of the tour are the American life tracks. I am not writing this to sway anyone's opinion, if you like AL, then good for you. I think it's one of the major reasons she came back so strong with Confessions on a dancefloor, which was an undeniable success. No one has to write articles and make YT videos questioning whether Confessions, Like a Prayer or Ray of Light was a successful album or not, yet with this album there is a debate. Just by the mere fact that there is such a debate is an answer in & of itself. Not to say it doesn't have some good songs. I think love profusion. M & F and DAD are great. Intervention has grown on me. NKM is a highlight but only b/c you are searching FOR 1 or 2 songs to really like. NKM suffers from a minimalism that I can appreciate from an artistic viewpoint, but the Stuart Price "remix" for the RIT really gives it the punch it was missing & deserved. But overall, the album itself is dead in the water. There are not enough fast songs on it. I also think Mirwais was not a wise choice to produce the entire record. I think Mirwais is a one trick pony, in terms of what he brings to the table. I applaud her for not going the easy route after ROL and making Music concise & different than what everyone was expecting. Everyone was expecting her to just repeat the enormous success of Ray of Light & create a ROL part 2, which would have been easy & expected. I appreciate her expanding her artistic vision and making a severe left turn with Music. But it didn't translate to AL. I also think it's huge miscalculation to judge AL b/c of the video. The production of the song, with its whiny, bleeping synths are terrible. The lyrics of the song are cringy & the rap is even worse. Hollywood is a decent enough song, but it gets ruined with the "Push the button, don't push the button, change the channel" vocals being lowered to a male sounding voice. It is a studio trick and sometimes it works wonderfully, like with the robotic "I like to singy, singy singy, like a bird." effect on Impressive Instant. However, in this case, the studio effect doesn't work well or sound pleasant. Same with the beginning of I'm so stupid, the whiny, AHHHH and then it is doubled, in the beginning ruins what could have been a good rock/ pop/ dance song. Overall, it is a deary, depressing album. Madonna trying to be Joni Mitchell. Folktronica didn't work for her.

Some interesting points there - she was trying to impress Guy Ritchie with AL- perhaps? I remember reading he hated COAD. I definitely agree Mirwais is a bit of a one trick pony. I think his production work is interesting but his songwriting isn't that strong.

For real, imho we all are somehow bisexuals and we have sensors ready to be activated in case some specific circumstance or stimulation happens. If I had close to me someone listening to Taylor Dayne, Anastacia, Britney, Kylie, Rihanna or Rita Ora just to name the few I'm more fond of, well I'd spend special time with that special friend, that's sure. Why not? The music is great, the beauty is all there to be seen, their charisma, their talents, their looks, their costumes and details, the whole game of colours and shapes through the visuals. It's just a matter of being extremely sensitive to something extremely artistic, feeling the desire to explore and share this passion with someone who feels the same. Nothing more, nothing less.
