Day 7 - Imerovigli, Santorini 🇬🇷 1st of November We packed up our things and headed to Imerovigli today. But before we left Pyrgos, we went to the bakery and bought lots of sweet treats to share… Imerovigli is the highest village on the volcano caldera with amazing panoramic views! It was even quieter than Pyrgos with just a few people walking around. We are staying at Kallisto hotel and we have a cave room. The owner told us that besides Fira and Oia most hotels, bars & restaurants in the other villages start to close down in November and that just yesterday around 25 hotels closed in Imerovigli! The Kallisto hotel will be closing next week. There were a handful of bars and restaurants still open but Fira (the capital) is just a 20 min walk away which has many places open. The main reason we wanted to come here was to walk up Skaros rock - one of Santorini's five castle fortresses, but it was reduced to rubble by volcanic activity. We did it in July 2022 and my daughter and i I stayed on the steps watching the sunset while the others walked up it. The sunset was at 5.30pm so we started the steep climb down the steps around 5pm. We met a few people on this hike - it’s a popular sunset spot! I’m not great with heights and I was fine walking up the rock but it’s when I turned around and saw Imerovigli high up on the caldera I started to freak! Amazing scenery with the layers of rock and seeing the buildings somehow clinging to them. We didn’t go up ontop of the rock as it’s quite difficult to climb that part - you literally have to rock climb and wearing a long dress was not a great idea! But we walked around to the other side and watched the sunset from there. There’s no lights around Skaros rock so as soon as the sun set, we made our way back down the rock then started the tough climb up the steps to the top of town. Highly recommend doing this if ever you go to Santorini! Shattered, we later ordered a takeaway from our room and went to bed early…

Day 6 - Pyrgos & Fira, Santorini 🇬🇷 31st of October The original plan was to go to a little village called Megalochori today then walk over to the heart of Santorini sunset spot later on but… we decided to get a bus and go to Fira the capital instead! We don’t have a car this time so we have to rely on buses and thought it was just easier to go to Fira. The morning was spent walking around Pyrgos village then at 1.30pm we went to Fira. Buses costs €1.60 each way and run every hour in the off season - we caught the Perissa to Fira bus. Fira was surprisingly quiet! Being the capital, I was expecting it to be busy - not over crowded like the summer months but, it was a lot quieter! I found it strange that I was noticing things I had never seen before and it took me a while to realise why… walking through streets that are jammed with tourists n July, you don’t stop you just carry on walking - because it was quiet I got to really ‘see’ Fira if that makes sense?! at a slower pace. The caldera and volcano views from Fira are breath-taking! We walked down low into the caldera to the apartment area we stayed in last year (Scirocco) then walked across the caldera back up into the streets. We went to ‘street food square’ and had a €4 gyros for lunch and had an icecream later on. We wanted to head back to Pyrgos for sunset so caught the 5pm bus back - walked up to Francos bar for a drink then watched the sunset from their rooftop terrace. Later, we went back to Brusco’s for another €18 meze for two! So good…

You can walk from Lassi to Argostoli, ACROSS land and depending how energetic you are, in 15 to 30 minutes, OR, you can walk AROUND the peninsula to Argostoli ,with the sea (most of the time) by your side. This slow scenic walk can take you, give or take, 2 hours.

Aww, lovely Claire. I normally watch all your YT beauty vids but thought I'd come and check out your travel vlogs. There's something about you Claire that always draws me to watch your vids over other content creators. It's your relaxing, charismatic, fun and chilled nature. Watching your vlogs is like hooking up with a friend for a caramel latte or flat-white, piece of yummy cake and a good natter, whilst also, putting the world to rights type experience/feeling. Sometimes us busy Mum's don't have the time to catch up with friends (or old friends live in other parts of the UK etc) so watching you gives me that girly comfort that you get from catching up with old mates. The beach you visited in your vid is very similar to the Cornish and Devon beaches, near me. I love beauty, good natters, strong coffee and beautiful nature! As do most of us ladies....Thanks for all that you do Claire with your channels. You always look so immaculate and gorgeous in your vids. I'm such a scruff at times and a right Tomboy but absolutely love beauty stuff. Although, not sure if the two go together at times 🙂. Keep smiling and lighting up your viewers lives with your beautiful smile and happy chatter. Best Wishes - Rachel from the Devon & Cornwall area ❤

I suspect that the first week of November is the very best time to visit Santorini. Still warm, enough places still open, obv much quieter, but prices have collapsed. Some amazing deals to be had. For example -- that yellow building you see from the Ammoudi steps has a 2 bed house with an amazing lounging deck for 140 Euros per night.

Hi there awesome thank you ☺️ No but I really want to!! I went to Ibiza for the weekend a few weeks ago and we’re close to going to Dubrovnik but the cost for Ibiza was too good… £280 each for flights and 4^ hotel either breakfast for 3nts! But it was in Playa D’en Bossa… we were literally the oldest ones there 😂 but it was great though. But yeah, I really want to go to Dubrovnik. Yes and Seville too! Actually… and Rome and Berlin - so many places I want to visit! I went to Nerja and Frigiliana in the Andalusia region of Spain last year and absolutely loved it! We did look at going to Ronda but we just didn’t have time as it was a bit too far away but we also wanted you to go to Granada too so we’ll definitely be back one day, it’s such a pretty region. Yes, I came back from my solo trip to Rhodes last week - it was a taster to see if I could cope on my own as I have a 9nt trip booked in October going solo and I loved it! Didn’t feel lonely once - I can’t wait for October now! Hi. Going by bus, is it possible to go to Assos and Fiskardo on the same day or would we need to go on separate days? Regarding Assos does the bus go straight there from Argostoli or do we get off at Divarata and get a shuttle bus from there? Also could we go to Sami, Melissani cave and Agia Effemi on the same day? The buses look very limited as to the frequency. Sorry about all the questions. Thanks for any advice. ATB David
@Clairegoeswhere
@Clairegoeswhere Ай бұрын
You could go to both on the same day but I’d go to Assos first as the buses are more limited going there. It would be best to go on separate days though if possible like what we did as it takes 2hrs each way to go to Fiskardo from Argostoli. Regarding going to Assos, yes when we went we had to switch buses in Divirata (near Myrtos beach) we had to wait around 15mins to go on a mini bus to Assos and the same on the way back too. With Fiskardo it was just one bus all the way. You could definitely do all those 3 places in one day if the buses work out ok - you’d only need an hour at the caves and all 3 places are not far from each other but we did Agia Effemia on a separate day. We did have a problem with catching the bus back from the caves to Sami - it didn’t turn up!! So as there were 5 of us, my husband walked and the rest of us took a taxi for around €10 (this was a few years ago now though). The walk wasn’t far maybe 1.5 miles along the beach but we got a taxi as it was July and hot!! There’s a great large bar and restaurant opposite the cave facing Sami - it was pretty there. I can’t remember the frequency of the buses but I do remember they were limited. We used the buses nearly every day so going to these places are doable. Another option would be to look on GetYourGuide to see if there’s any arranged coach day trips or Viator - I use both frequently and definitely worth looking to see what’s available when you go. I hope this helps x

Day 5 - Oia & Pyrgos Santorini 🇬🇷 30th of October The ferry arrived on time in Santorini from Crete after our delay and our taxi driver was waiting at the port for us. The ferry ride was super smooth with loads of seating and a few eating/drinking areas open throughout. We slept on and off which helped. We arrived at our hotel in Oia - Loakasti hotel at around 6am and we were told we could stay until our taxi to Pyrgos arrives that night at 7pm which was brilliant! So we had a few hours sleep, got up for breakfast then went back to the room to chill for a few hours. I went into the pool which was cold but bareable - it was so nice and helped my puffy feet?! It was very quiet at the hotel with only another couple to be seen besides the staff. At around 2pm, we went into Oia and spent all day wandering the streets, eating salads and icecream. We were really surprised how quiet the town was considering there were around 7k cruise people in port that day and Oia and Fira are the main towns they go to! It was so lovely! More people came on buses towards sunset and headed to the castle area to watch. It was cloudy for most of the day but really hot! We were going to walk down to Amoudi bay which Jon and I did in 2016 but decided against it! We went back to our room, gathered our bag and met the taxi driver who took us to Pyrgos village which is the highest village on the island. I booked taxis through booking . Com as I’m genius level 3 so have a good discount off - no problems at all and really friendly. A porter met us by the main road and helped us with our bags up to our cave suite - Gods View which was near the castle right at the top of Pyrgos. We stayed near by last year but I had forgotten how tough the walk is up there! Later, we went to Brusco meze bar and restaurant and shared a platter for two for €18 - it was so good!!!

Hi Claire! I met you last year at Welshstock briefly, not sure if you remember; we have a mutual friend - Suzie! I found your channel again and it's great ☺ I'm about to start travelling with my 8 year old son so your vlogs are so helpful! I went down so many rabbit holes before booking a trip, especially Greek rabbit holes! - and I wished I'd remembered to come back and look at your channel - (I've now subbed). I've booked Gran Canaria, Puerto de Mogan, which looks really beautiful and I've never been to The Canary Islands before, but, I LOVE the look of this place so maybe next trip! I try and visit somewhere new each trip though and I've been to Crete already - I'm at that age where a bucket list is probably necessary 😂 I always want to go to Santorini, but, to be honest, it's looking a bit too touristy these days. I'll have a look at your vlogs. I also need to entertain an 8/9 year old, and I do my very best to avoid all-inclusives - never done one before and loathe to start now!! I love authentic travel, and you strike a great balance! Look forward to binge watching some of your travels ☺

Hi there!! Ooh I’d love to go to Gran Canaria one day too!! Ah a bucket list is a must 😂 I have soooooo many places i want to go to! Santorini is very touristy but there’s ways of escaping the crowds easily enough if you have a car… the majority of visitors especially if they are only in the island a few days, just go to Fira or Oia the two main towns and you literally can’t move in the summer months! We went for 2wks in July in 2022 and loved it but visited other places during the day to escape the crowds. Yeah I’m not keen on all inclusives - if the price is a bargain then I’ll go for it but I never take full advantage as I go off exploring during the day! Finding places to go with little ones is definitely harder. My youngest is 15 now so easier. I’m going back to Rhodes in a few weeks on my own this time for a few nights - I’ve always wanted to try solo travel! Thank you 🙏 x

Day 3 - Rethymno & Chania Crete 🇬🇷 28th of October We caught a bus to Chania today; Chania is on the north west coast, around an hour drive from Rethymno, the 2nd largest town in Crete. It has a Venetian district, Jewish district and a Turkish district - our favourite was the Venetian district it was so colourful and pretty! Every corner was a photo opportunity! The 14th century Venetian harbour Is filled with restaurants and bars and considering it’s the end of October, we were surprised how busy it was! We caught the 4.30pm bus back and walked 15 minutes along the coastal path and past the fortezza fort back to the harbour while the sun was setting and then, to our apartment for showers and hot tub on our roof terrace. Our last meal was gyros! We had a takeaway and sat on the balcony people watching … 28 degrees today in Chania! Hot but a bit cloudy . Day 4 - Rethymno & Heraklion Crete 🇬🇷 29th of October Today we move to another Greek island but not until late this evening and it doesn’t go as planned…. The clocks went back last night which meant I woke up to a beautiful pink sunrise from our balcony! The music from the bars and restaurants below us last night went on until the early hours celebrating Oxi day - the anniversary of ‘no’ “This day is celebrated in remembrance of the moment when the then prime minister of Greece, Ioannis Metaxas, refused to let the Italian troops enter Greece's border on October 28, 1940, during the Greco-Italian War” The bars and restaurants didn’t open until around 11am and it was strangely quiet. We didn’t have to leave until midday so we made the most of our time up on the rooftop terrace. With our cases all packed we walked to the bus station and had brunch there while we waited for our 12.45pm bus to the capital, Heraklion. It took an hour and a half and was full! We couldn’t sit next to each other… I wonder what would happen during the summer months?! We found luggage storage at the bus station so left our larger cases there then found a bus stop (no 2) up the road from the station that took us to Knossos palace just 5k from the city. We couldn’t work out how to use the ticket machine so instead of paying €1.5 we paid €2.50 each! Knossos palace was really interesting, a lot of ground to cover and we were there for around 3hrs. It costs us €23 and Oliver was half price as we are out of the EU! While here I had a message from Ferryhopper to tell us that there’s a migrant issue around the port in Rhodes and there will be a delay. A short while later, we were told that instead of catching the 10.45pm ferry, we will now be catching the 2.20am ferry…. Thankful is wasn’t cancelled but gutted as the travel through the night will be tough. It’s only 3hrs to Santorini so we’ll arrive by 5.30am - I rang our taxi to change the times to meet us at the port so all ok, just a bit of a pain. We decided to book a hotel room 10 min walk away from the port for £49 - it meant we could have showers, we could leave our cases in the room while we went for food, we could charge our phones and sleep if we could. At 1.25am we walked to the port - there were lots of other passengers waiting for the ferry but wasn't super busy. Who knew I’d be going back to Santorini so soon?! (we were there for 2wks in July 2022 - full 14 day vlogs on this channel) As mentioned previously, we saved so much money by moving islands (£13 each) so it made sense and it’s the closest island to Crete. Next stop ..... Santorini....

🧿A spur of the moment decision led to a 9 night trip to Greece end of October 2023. Flights were just £16 for my son and £19 for myself with EasyJet from Bristol to Crete. We also booked a ferry to Santorini for a few nights which were £13 each from Crete then flights back to Gatwick 5 days later all for the same price inc accommodation as what a 4nt package holiday would have cost us!! Here's what we got up to...🧿 Day 1 - Rethymno Crete 🇬🇷 25th & 26th October We flew into Heraklion airport late last night and took a bus to Rethymno where we will be staying for 4nts - 2 nights at suite chloe and 2 nights at suite Erato both in Muses Suites. Our first time in Crete and I decided to base in Rethymno due to its ancient history plus its easy to reach Chania (beautiful town) and Heraklion (the capital and where we will be getting the ferry to Santorini from) and it’s really pretty and similar to Rhodes old town which I fell in love with back last April. Today, we had a chilled morning and had breakfast literally opposite the front door to our accommodation at Bee Cafe as we happen to be situated on the main bar and restaurant strip of the town - handy ! We went on a 30 minute land train ride which was nice as we got to see the old and new town before properly exploring then, walked to the Fortezza which is perched high above the town - amazing views, amazing history… highlight of the day for me! The rest of the day was spent waking around the town, stopping of for an icecream and coffee then going out for a meal at night to a lovely traditional taverna in the old town. They don’t do glasses of wine they do 1/2 litres!! Plus a free ouzo to finish … Weather very humid, high 20’s but cloudy 19k steps and a few mozzy bits! Next video we will be going to Chania for the day and then the day after, we head to Heraklion to catch the ferry over to Santorini but it doesn't go to plan!!! Coming soon ...

Hi! What seats did you book for the 180 bar? :)
@Clairegoeswhere

Hi we books the stairs or steps at €70 minimum spend each. Would definitely recommend as we sat on cushions and had amazing views and little table but… it would have been great to sit near the dj but it wasn’t a big deal. The steps are the cheapest option for guaranteed seats.x

Hi there, I would go back again if the price was good!! I loved the location - so close to the new and old town and all the great beach bars near the aquarium. The hotel is large with a few pools and we thought the food was great! We had free wine beer and soft drinks added to our mini bar for free each day! The negatives are that we found there wasn’t enough seats for everyone in the bars and lobby at night and also near the different eateries outside by the pool in the afternoon and this was first week of April and just a few days after opening for the season! They might in busier months add more seating ?! Also there was long queues to have our evening meal most night going down the corridor outside the main buffet restaurant- I hate queues but we waited no longer than 15-20 minutes to go in and be seated. Our room had the best views but it was one of the old sea view rooms and definitely not 5star - lots of work is needed to modernise it. We just paid around £800 for 4nts all inclusive plus flights bags and transfers with easyjet for 2 of us. I have a hotel room tour video on my channel of this hotel if you haven’t seen it already. I liked it and would go back again but only if we got a good bargain. I’d say it’s more 4 star than 5 and done rooms need renovating.
