I install hebel and it is a great product - it’s insulation properties don’t matter in Australia because we don’t thermally seal our houses properly like they do in colder countries, so the heat finds other ways out through doors and windows mostly, also the panels need a 10mm movement joint in places where the heat can escape passed a thin polyurethane bead - so yeah, pointless Number 1 problem is cracking from cowboy installers Number 2 problem is you cannot fix to it. CSR supply plugs, I’ve never used them, don’t know how effective they are - the best solution I know of, is an owner asked me how he could hang a clothes line from it, I told him I would place some extra battens and he would have to fix to them - he was good enough to supply structural ply, I placed large sections of ply behind the panels, and fixed them to the back of the panels by screwing through the face and into the ply. Either way, get used to hebel because there’s no bricklayers coming through, it’s a dying trade

Good info. Other advantage of colorbond roof is its much lighter than tile. Weight of roof needs to be considered when renovating.

NEVER get ducted airconditioning !!! When not if it breaks down you’ll have no aircon at all in your entire house. If a split unit dies you’ll still have several rooms to use in comfort. Ducted systems are horrendously expensive to repair as they use a lot of gas - 3-5 kgs at $160/ kg depending on the type of gas. The indoor pcb control board and outdoor control board are very expensive to replace assuming you can source the correct one that is. Our ducted has died 5 x in as many years and now the main control board for the outdoor cooling unit has died for no apparent reason, replacement board cost? $1380.00! and the new one can blow just as easily apparently because there is no obvious signs of failure. Meanwhile we’ve had several extended periods sweltering in heat and humidity before so called technicians could look at it. If we opted for split systems at least we’d have some respite to be able to sleep at night. Our $12000.00 ducted is completely unreliable and very costly in repairs. The brand? PANASONIC Chinese made garbage existing on their previous good reputation.

I’ll save you the time. Brick is best. Always has been, always will be. There are brick buildings still standing around which were build many, many hundreds of years ago. Try finding a clad building over 50 years old.

Hebel was never meant to be used in today's intricate house designs, It's very hard to flash properly and water always finds a way in not to mention natural building movement so you will be sealing cracks and painting forever.

@@nikfish1 because it's soft like polystyrene. You can't screw or nail to it. It breaks easy so never hit it with anything. And, it's not much cheaper than cladding or bricks.

Steel Frame is structurally very stable. If engineered and built correctly it will not budge. But! Steel is a great conductor of heat, sound……it’s like living in a tin can. No thermal mass and very inefficient. Ducted aircon is a must. If your a musician, get specialised audio grade gib. Been living in ours for ten years, 99% steel. All window sills and architraves are aluminium with plastic joiners that cracked and fell apart. Aluminium was colour matched to the house. All internal walls insulated as well. No cracks in wall to ceiling joins, wall to wall, anywhere. Even after the years…… Would I build with it again………unsure. Extremely inefficient, the cost of heating and cooling is very high, 24/7 non stop. AirCon has not turned off in ten years. But what is the alternative? Shit rotting Kiln Dried Timber. Oh and we’re in Auckland so don’t have the extreme temperature fluctuations that you’d get in Australia. But would never consider living in one without AirCon. But this thing Will Not Rot.

100% if you can wait and got the money bricks if you need it asap and no money cladding and hope for the best same with the roof no money and no time go with tin(colourbond) if you got money and time get tiles 1 you dont go deaf when it rains and 2 its cooler and warmer and 100 times easier to fix 1 tile thats leaking then a tin sheet that has 30 to 50 screws in it and penetrations from 3 different trades

Hebel is all well and good BUT i had it on my townhouse and the main issue i had was screwing anything in to it. I had to install roller shutters to shield from heat and noise, and the shutters fell off in a heavy wind. They said they used 'longer screws' but i doubt any of them even made it to the frame to hold all the weight.
@andreweastaughffe1070
@andreweastaughffe1070 Жыл бұрын
they probably didn't most of the time you would need a screw around 120mm to get to the frame and bite in as behind the hebel is a steel baton to even out the frame and add screw points

I think it depends also on how airtight/insulated your home is as well. We live in the Snowy mountains of NSW and our only heating/cooling is one reverse cycle split system. Doesn't run that often and we don't even have it on when we go to bed or while we are at work and the house is very comfortable 👍🇦🇺

I have seen a video explaining about the cons of ducted system.. attic can be too cold and too hot in summer and the extreme temperatures will effect the efficiency of the unit plus all the air leaks from around each and every ducts in the rooms as the cold or hot air gets sucked in from the attic results in system working harder.

hmmmmmmm well as an american who perfers duct systems... if u dont use a particular room much its gonna have vent blockers in that particular room (also helps with a fan to move air to overall cool the room in general cuz the vent blockers dont block 100%... but i love a cold home even in summer n a mild warmth in a home in a winter... being able to control that kinda thing is a gamechanger atleast for me... on 38c-42c+ days in summer the price a month is around 300ish on a ducted home... but that also varies on how insulated ur windows n what not actually is (which means the number of times it kicks on n back off to maintain the desired temp)... i want to add if u open up windows n then turn it on its gonna take longer to cool down a home also making it more expensive in return... also tinted windows is better for people with bigger windows. the sun also brings in heat thru the windows as a home... it all comes down too the direction of the sun in the home n how its insulated along with it to choose what u actually want! obviously if u have a west to east facing condo... ur being heat into the home thru the windows compared to the north n south facing... putting those additives into thought makes or breaks ones decision... so matter of preference... pay more now for payoff long term or look for the current pricing... all up to the individual n what they want

From the standpoint of appearance, IMO the wall mounted split units are too obtrusive. The ones that are recessed into the ceiling stand out much less.

Another factor is how much value it adds to your home . For an extra $10,000 you may add between up to $50,000 to $100,000 value depending upon your location .It takes your home into another "class" level .It also may simply make your home more desirable and therefore saleable in tough times .
