Neat looks cool. Could you do something like that with a 90% silver half or quarter?
@coinry17 күн бұрын
Eventually I do plan on making them with 90% as soon as I get comfortable enough with the process, getting good consistent bells at the moment, so maybe soon.

I got my ring sizer mandrel from a local jewelry shop, it was an extra, kind of an older one but works well. Most of my other tools I got off eBay, Mike Still Tools I believe is who I got most of them from. Arbor press from eBay as well.

Very nice ! Where do you buy a silver coin of date like that ? Thanks !
@coinry2 ай бұрын
I got this one from a 2011 silver proof set. The US mint started putting silver back into our coinage in 1992, but only in silver proof sets. If you plan to purchase any, be aware that there are also clad proof sets.

It's basically an acid used to clean jewelry made from precious metals. It comes as a dry powder that you disolve in water, package says sodium bisulfate, got it off ebay.

was this a silver quarter?
@coinry2 ай бұрын
No, it was a copper/nickel clad quarter, I believe the US mint didn't make any silver quarters from 1965 to 1991, with the exception of some 40% bicentennials, it started up again with proofs in 1992.

@coinry3 ай бұрын
I heat up the ring and drop it in, I know some heat up the pickle in a pickle pot, but I got this method from a jeweler in town. Just be careful of the splash after dropping it in, I believe it is or has characteristics of an acid.

@@noahbailey493 I haven’t in the past, I normally run it under water after the ring is done. Before I discard the pickle I’ll put some baking soda in it to neutralize before disposal. I’ll look into it though.

That's correct, just a couple of seconds, I do anneal pretty often though for 90% coins because they can work harden quickly.

Not sure if you're in the market to purchase this round. I buy them from govmint.com and they have them in stock, they're having a black friday sale sitewide, the more you buy, the more you save kind of thing. They are a little expensive, but they're on only place that I've found them. International shipping looks like $40, so the savings may help with that.
