Leaving home for first time, even when you want to or it’s exciting, heartbreaking leaving your parents and family. I did well but I returned 3 months later for a visit and when I left it hit me hard. I cried so hard. My mother never shed a tear. Maybe it’s just the way they filmed back then, but they have young Katie sitting so close to that older barn painter. Most have been fashion in those days but the barn painter is dressed so nice and owned a car you would think he was rich. Maybe the father should have wondered why he wanted to take his daughter. If they were only acquaintances and not good friends. Or why didn’t the father ride with them or at least one of the brothers? Even in 1947, trust no one especially someone you don’t know well who wants to go out of their way to help your child with no compensation. Never know intentions.

If you had watched the whole film, the father didn’t let the painter drive his daughter. He let her have a lift with the local doctor to the bus stop (who Loretta was going to work for, when she had completed her nursing course)The painter deliberately followed Loretta’s and picked her up at the bus stop. Her father never knew about him.

Massive farm in those days. Did they always put house so close to barn and animals? I could see advantages and disadvantages. I think I’d want some distance.

How very very sad, that she endured episodes of severe depression. This could be treated much better today, although not always, but I am sure the electric shock treatment, made her depression worse. Like Kennedy's daughter Rose who was never ever the same after shock and spent her life in a mental institution.

Jean Crain was such a good actress that she convincingly played many characters I must confess I don't like much. Here she is the embodiment of goodness. Too bad she is merely a foil.

I remember watching this movie with my Grandmother when I was a kid. I remember searching years for it, but I couldn't remember the title. My favorite part was how she would drink the blood and become young again. Good movie

Excellent movie, I remember watching it on French TV when I was 18... Anthony Hopkins, Richard Jordan and other actors such as Michael Lonsdale did a great job... However Bruno Ganz's portrayal of Hitler was in my opinion far superior... That said this was an excellent movie nevertheless and thanks for posting it 🙂🙂

Lancaster apparently thought little of the film and was eager to move on to more serious projects. Considering the casting of Henreid, Rains, and Lorre, plus the "tough guy" motif, I wonder if Bogart was considered for the lead at any point? Just speculation, but seems like his type of film (he did SAHARA, after all, so he's used to the desert). Not enough Lorre here for my tastes, and Mike Mazurki disappears after a couple of minutes. BTW, the original film script is for sale, if you google "rope of sand original screenplay 1949" for the details.

According to this movie, the British solider is loud, surly, and stupid. No noise discipline, smoking on patrol, failure to plan, poor discipline, and insubordinate. If this movie were anything to go by, it is a wonder British won any battles at all in the Pacific. Terrible!

We've been fighting corrupt government since 1947. Seventy-five years later and it's 75 times worse. Now we're dealing with a corrupt Supreme Court. It's unbelievable. Decency and honesty is not a thing anymore in politics. They also should have named this movie something that reflected the actual content. I was completely surprised by the direction this movie took. Excellent!
@marileehorn450721 сағат бұрын
Politics has always been corrupt. It's all about money and power. The Supreme Court is about law and the constitution, not about pandering to the abortion. industry. There simply was no legal constitutional basis for RoevWade, even Justice Bader-Ginsburg knew that and said so. Voter ID would be a step towards making politics less corrupt.

So even at the end the maniacal architects of Germany's mass destruction drag out the same old universal scapegoat. "the Jews", in order to absolve themselves. Judging by what's happening today, it really hasn't changed at all.
