I LOVE the American television show "Seinfeld". Brilliant comedy. Nevertheless there was one episode that gave pause. When the character 'Elaine' fawns over her new boyfriend, 'Ned', who is "A COMMUNIST"😁 Even within a 1990's television show you could see the BLATENT hypocrisy STILL on view decades later..

Many of Stalin's plans were like this, on paper, in a discussion around a table, it makes sense and seems like a great idea. But the reality is horrific. Real horror show. A lot of communism is like this. Ideas that sound great sometimes just do not work. Better always to have the people decide, collectively, through representative governments and honest elections what direction their society should take.

Worth noting: Hans Lipschis immigrated to the United States in the 1950s but was deported back to West Germany in 1983 for lying about his past. In 2013, he was arrested for his involvement in the murders at Auschwitz. Lipschis claimed he was only a cook during his time at the camp, but the Simon Wiesenthal Center argued he was actually a guard and placed him fourth on their most wanted list. The evidence against Lipschis was undeniable, including numerous testimonies and archival documents.

I think the keyword in all this is "extremism", historically, you'll find it both on the far left and on the far right of the ideological spectrum, it's an illness, those two groups are closer in their thinking and actions then anything in between; they become like grasshoppers that have turned into locusts, pure evil and destruction.

this kind of behavior is very reflective of academics and 'experts' of the time. especially left leaning academics. they have a conception of how the world is and how it should be and from their sofa will develop very well reasoned by totally false notions of the world. they would even diminish the surviving victims first hand accounts based on the notion that they were 'only telling the stories they think their new masters want to hear.' liberal academics aren't much better now despite the ease of access to information. though im not surprised.

Interesting subplot of this time in history. Regrettably, hardcore western leftists often denied the attrocities of their heroes pretty much until the fall of the Soviet Union. Even the mass murders by Stalin and Mao were frequently minimized by the true believers. Anyone know the name of that revolutionary tune at the beginning of the film?

The modern Robin Hood should be Ho Chi Minh, not Polpot. Look at how Ho Chi Minh led his country with love and respect, how his country become more and more prosperous, how his people become happier and happier. And look at how Polpot killed his own people. Please don't hear what people say, look at what they do.

Jane Fonda taught me that it is immoral to support a government which you would not live under as a regular citizen. When the Pol Pot atrocities were being reported, a reporter asked Jane Fonda, in her luxurious Beverly Hills apartment, for her comment. She said, 'We must not stand in the way of the march of socialism' (not a word for word quote). As a lifelong liberal, I am to this day disgusted.

Communism is always accompanied by genocide. Here in the Philippines former president Rodrigo Duterte, who is a Chinese Communist agent, is under investigation for his so called “war on drugs” killed tens of thousands of Filipinos. Unfortunately progress in the investigations are slow because many of his henchmen are now active in politics.

Many nations share responsibility for the Cambodian tragedy, their ideologies and politics deeply stained with blood. Among them are the Khmer Rouge, the United States, the United Kingdom, China, Singapore, Thailand, and even significant portions of the United Nations. In a striking irony, it was Vietnam that emerged as both the unlikely hero and savior in this harrowing chapter of history.

It still happens today with Cuba and many other dictatorships worldwide. Despite knowing the island is economically blocked by the US (except for food and other items), it suffers massively in poverty and in little prospect of being, at least, well fed. Plus, its political elite doesn't act as if they are being blocked, Castro's relatives can easily go out of the island chilly whilst the rest suffers. I'm not pro the US transforming Cuba into a protectorate or a puppet in the region, yet, nor I am pro the current administration of the communist party in Cuba. Cuba needs a democratic system and to be independent and sovereign.

I didn't know about the support provided by various Western-European left-wing groups to the Khmer Rouge, even though I knew about the kidnaps, murders and bank robberies committed by groups such as Baader-Meinhof Group and right-extremist groups. The 1970-1980s were a period of violent chaos, driven by hard-edge political extremism. What is also not widely covered and in fact largely ignored is the (official) support provided by the USA government (under Jimmy Carter) in conjunction with the People's Republic of China to the Khmer Rouge at various international forums, including the UN. Such support continued even AFTER the discovery of the killings between 1975-1979 of up to 3 million (40% of the total population) Cambodians through tortures, executions and starvation by Pol Pot and his henchmen prior to their being overthrown in early 1979 by Vietnamese troops.

This happened in Guinea Bissau around 1970/71. It was then a Portuguese colony that was suffering a tough guerrilla war. PAIGC (Guinean freedom fighters) versus Portuguese colonial troops. The guerrillas were financed by the Soviet bloc countries, backed by neighbouring countries Guinea Conakry and Senegal. A Portuguese comando raid on a PAIGC base in Guinea Conakry near the Bissau border resulted in various guerrillas killed. A Portuguese army patrol that was placed in the escape route of the rebels intercepted a group of PAIGC members trying to reach safety from the Portuguese raid. In that group there were much to the surprise of the Portuguese, a few medical personnel from Eastern European bloc countries, including a Swedish nurse. Because they were in Guinea Conakry, Army headquarters in Bissau issued orders to the army patrol not to arrest the medical staff only the guerrillas. Before letting them free, the medics were questioned in French about their role in that base. They claimed to be humanitarian help from several European nations, Sweden included.

As a child survivor from the secret American bombing Cambodia in the early 1970s and more than 150,000 innocent civilian deaths, and the survivor through the atrocious of Khmer Rouge regime. Every time i see videos like these, broke out with tears and shaking my bones to the core. I have lost dozen of relatives, including my father, brother and two sisters. Former president Richard Nixon and Henry Kissenger were not hold accountable for the crimes and among other westerners were involved. They knew what was going on, they did not stop the Khmer Rouge atrocities but supported them with financial and ammunitions. This video is a reminder of the modern history of one ambitious individual ideology that killed millions of their own people, to make awareness that these slaughtered crimes should never happen again.

Important that Dith Pran and Sydney Schaumburg are referenced but it would have been good to mention the role that John Pilger and Jim Gerrand played in bringing attention to the crimes of the Khmer Rouge. Also worth remembering that the US and UK have defacto support to the Khmer Rouge after the defeat of the Pol Pot regime by supporting the KR alliance against Vietnam from the end of 1979 until the late 1980's. The type of wilfully blind ignorance displayed by these Swedes (and they were not alone) is another form of imperialism: we, with our comfortable lives and university education know better than the very people we profess to have solidarity with.
