I watched this film today and you've voiced my opinions perfectly. I would love to have had more character development for Pascal's character and with so many characters saying they were associated with Maximus in some way, despite all the clips from the first film there was no real link for these new characters at all. I would like them to have picked people out of the extras or created new scenes of the past. I'd also have liked to have had a better return to Lucius's wife waiting in the afterlife, perhaps with a line like "it'll be a little while before I can join you yet, wait for me" or something. I think they should have cut the baboons scene totally. It didn't look realistic at all. The rhino also seemed gigantic and maybe I don't know rhinos but a normal sized rhino is scary enough. And the sharks were unnecessary... I enjoyed the film though haha! I made the mistake of watching it in 4D as my friend insisted. I think I'll go back and watch it in IMAX instead.

I want to say thank you to Joe Paolella. I haven't seen "Gladiator II" yet. I was deeply moved by the original "Gladiator." It had a brilliant cast and took on several difficult subplots. I also want to say that Ridley Scott is trying to balance two things. One, tell a strong story, and two, appeal to as broad an audience as he can. On the first point, the theme seems to be what one person can do to effect change against a vast empire. It's an especially meaningful story, considering where we are in America. On the second point, Ridley Scott is doing something exceedingly difficult. He's trying to make a meaningful, popular film. No small feat. For the moment, let's leave it at that.

Imagine how much better this would be if they could have used the railways the British stole from Malta Can't wait to watch this, aiming to go watch next week. I had concerns watching the trailers and stuff that this was just a cash grab but nice to hear that Ridley Scott managed to deliver a good film. I don't like Anora as much as you and most people seem to. For me, it is ok and the praise is "mostly merited". I wasn't sure on first watch. Yeah I think their genre is horror but I also dont like Adam Driver as an actor unless you have a really good director like Jim JArush to make his personality and facial expressions work in some meaningful way. The last film he did with that quirky female was dreadful. Didnt like him in hereditary either. I absolutely loved Heretics mood and feel and the way they directed this film. Top marks I realise Hugh Grant could make anything look good like extreme measures, about a boy, Notting Hill etc but he also had to make those females look convincing and he ticks that box too.

Didn't love it tbh. Margaret and Demi Moore were GREAT, fx also cool and the overall imagery was really nice, and it was overall enjoyable to watch it, but I actually don't really agree in the sound effects being great, they felt a bit excessive for my taste. The overall narrative also wasn't very compelling (or the way the story was told). Kinda reminded me too much about black mirror, that in the begining I enjoyed but started to get tired of that series. Maybe some years for now I'll be able to watch it and have a different point of view, since I think I also took the movie too seriously? Like maybe I look at it in a more "Jennifer 's body" kind of way, and maybe I should watch more Cronenberg and come back to it

I haven’t watched the movie yet, but I am amazed by fragile men comments that since this movie is directed by a woman, and portrays issues mostly lived by women, then it’s not worth watching. Since it’s not something they live and/or understand and/or care at all then they make a judgement on the whole gender. What an interesting anthropological example of humanity. You can still dislike something without the need of undermine the whole female gender.

On Adam Driver's commitment, yes. It's like he really wanted to get this thing off the ground. If they'd only taken Taylor Caldwell's 1960s novel about Cicero (A Pillar of Iron) and plopped it into the near future they would have had a coherent story. If Coppola was not inspired by Caldwell, I would find it surprising. At the same time Coppoia had some sort of fixation on the German silent film METROPOLIS, which drained the project dry. That picture was good for inspired design; Thea Von Harbou's script was as disastrous as Coppola's lack of one. Some day we'll see a great film about the Cataline Conspiracy, but not yet.
