Bought 5 sets for my Stern pins. Have 2 installed so far, and they are amazing. They really help with dimly lit playfields. Fun fact, you can choose any flasher circuit you want if you do not want to use the shaker motor circuit.

Great product. Two issues I see is why no mount for the board and app controlled. I upgraded my last phone and lost some cool apps cause no more support.
@empirepinballКүн бұрын
You could use Velcro to mount the controller. As far as the app that will be up to pinlights to keep up with.
@PinlightsКүн бұрын
I agree with Alex! Most people just use velcro, though I'm trying to think of more creative solutions that allow people options+board protection whether or not they want to bolt something to their cabinet wall or let it sit at the bottom of the cabinet. As far as app controls go, I completely agree with you. I thought about putting some hardware potentiometers onto the control board so you could adjust at least "basic" things. You think that'd work for your case?
@PatsArcadeКүн бұрын
Would be nice if they also came with a remote control. My pet peeve with those apps is at some point (maybe in 10 years) the company might no longer be around. With iOS and Android evolving each year, it will become impossible to install the app on a newer OS version since it needs to be recompiled. Meaning if I buy 15 sets of those for my entire game room, thats around 3300 USD of pin lights that I can no longer control. Having an external way to control them without the app would be a key feature for me to commit for such a purchase. At bare minimum some small button switches could be added on the control pcb, allowing to alternate the modes, changing intensity manually without an app. Other than that, seems like a great product and more reasonable price wise than pin stadiums.
@PinlightsКүн бұрын
You have a great point here @PatsArcade! I've been debating how best to solve this, either by making boards with buttons/knobs on them, or some sort of hardware wireless device or a piece of software for desktop (Windows/Mac) that you could use to bluetooth control your lights. I definitely take obsolescence seriously, having been bitten by "cloud app things" myself. Our boards don't require a cloud (though you CAN sign up for a pinlights account to save your games across devices). Though you've definitely gotten the idea wheels spinning on this side!
@PatsArcade21 сағат бұрын
@@Pinlights yes and coming from a developer perspective I know how painful those updates can be. We had around 20 games, over 8 different platforms and 100M+ installs worldwide. Staying on top to constantly update our titles to remain compliant with the latest OS SDK took probably half of our time at the studio instead of working on new titles. At some point if you decide to no longer maintain the apps, its always possible to open source it so that people can compile their own builds. However I think having a physical remote or buttons is ideal and a lot more user friendly for most people. Once someone has everything configured, I doubt they would change the settings often. So even if its done using small pcb mounted push buttons that should do the trick. You could always create a small remote board like on arcade monitors to relocate the controls in a more convenient location (back box or in the coin door area).

@@MrDamasta1860 no I don’t, but I might make one it’s gonna be very similar to the one I showed you by using the clip leads, so find a flasher that you want to use and use the alligator clip for the flasher trigger to that. and then put the GI alligator leads on any G.I. lightbulb

Thanks for the video and links! When connecting the Scosche level converter, its hard to see your wiring in the video. Looking at the diagram do you put both R+ and L+ together and R- and L1 together to convert the channels into mono for the sub? Then connect the + to the sub and - to their respective terminal? thanks

@PatsArcade10 күн бұрын
According to Stern (someone confirmed that), a 4 ohms speaker (such as the LE Kenwood ones) should be set to 4 ohms in the menu sound settings. Rule is to always configure them to the actual impedance of the speaker, yours are also 4 ohms. However the stock built in amp for the backbox isn't great, the sound is better but volume doesn't go as high when setting them to 4 ohms. Do you also install another 2 channel amp for the backbox or you just leave them at 8 ohms in the settings to generate somewhat of a gain?
@empirepinball10 күн бұрын
yes correct, I do leave it set for 8 ohms for more volume

This was great, and really appreciated what I assume is an AI song about pinball upgrades that made me spit my drink.🤣 For future machines, the Kicker CS Series CSC4 speaker has a dedicated tweeter but zero protrusion if you're looking for a replacement 4" that will fit flush. You could also go sans tweeter with a full-range speaker like the Dayton Audio RS100-8, which should sound pretty good, too, though it's a little lacking on the highs, is my understanding. Also, solder the terminals to the harnesses BEFORE installing it in your pinball machine to reduce the risk of damage! You don't do headphone jacks? Is this intentional or do you not like them? Great vid!
@empirepinball10 күн бұрын
Hey, that's a great suggestion. Those Kickkers are about $30 more expensive than the ones I used. If I do another 4" cab speaker conversion, I'll try those out! I was doing the soldering in the cab for video purposes.

At 4:19 you've clearly made an upgrade to the speaker system with a Fosi Audio or similar chip amp, but it doesn't look like you've run any speaker wires from it. Is this just a bass amp intended for whatever sub you've installed, or a larger 2.1 speaker systems that goes to the speakers behind the header? If so, what equipment did you use and how did you run it? I've seen other folks that have updated their audio, but always interested to hear how others have adjusted their setup. The stock audio is pretty horrific.
