I had the same steering lock wheel locked even though the wheel didn't lock even when turning 180° in both directioms when car was off, the solution that made it work was reseting the computer system by unpluging the battery for 5 minutes and pluging it back, hope this helps.

It ran for a while without problems, only ever happened again a few times, but then nissan recalled the part and I ended up taking it to have it replaced for free. This was years ago tho, and I updated the description to make people aware of the recall as best I could.

Thanks for the laugh! when you pulled out that wrench I knew what was coming next. I bust out laughing! It looks legit. Hitting it makes the lock fall out of place and the car can start. Thanks for the laugh!, and I will try it on my Nissan Altima.

Glad it helped, I’d recommend getting the steering lock mechanism replaced soon tho because it will continue to happen unfortunately. It’s a fairly cheap part tho, I believe $90-$110 or so

All I can recommend is try again friend, make sure you give it a good few whacks. If not the ultimate fix is to replace your steering lock mechanism.

Bro it’s a theft mechanism u can turn on your self. Try to start the car while holding break don’t force it on u can break it but you do wanna apply force on the steering wheel 👊🏼 whip that shit fast

Just a heads up for anyone who tries this and it doesn't work. There's a switch by the brake pedal that can also cause the car to not start. I replaced it on my mom's car and it hasn't happened in 2 years the switch ran me like 40 bucks if I recall. Just thought I'd put this out there for anyone who might need it.

go into your car, using the key fob, press unlock, press lock , insert the key into the key slot and hold down break and start the car. should work

Mine said “key” but if yours says steering lock then it’s the same mechanism.

those steering locking system result in a lot of folks stuck . fortunately they can be easy to diagnose along with the enhanced part is not high priced . I have a do it yourself on it over at my channel also .

@@latajajohnson5218 this trick worked a handful of times. I did have to end up buying the part and had a friend replace it for me. He said it only took about 20 mins to replace.
