Nissan Altima 2007-2012 won't start, steering lock fix

How to fix Nissan Altima steering lock problem, very simple.

there was a recall on this part! nissan sent me a letter, but im sure if you go to your local dealer you could get it taken care of without one free of charge, they also said that if you already got the part replaced and have proof, they would refund it!

Just a heads up for anyone who tries this and it doesn't work. There's a switch by the brake pedal that can also cause the car to not start. I replaced it on my mom's car and it hasn't happened in 2 years the switch ran me like 40 bucks if I recall. Just thought I'd put this out there for anyone who might need it.

I happen to use a 2012 Altima and I would like to sincerely thank you for taking an effort to post this video and helping so many people at the right time. I had this issue, i first tested the battery it was fine, i thought it was brake switch i replaced that but it did not work. I called up friends working at the authorised company and was quoted a thumping amount of approximately USD 1100, I asked them time, and saw your video, i read such lovely comments and tried it out, and bingo in the first attempt it worked. May God Shower his blessings on you and your family. Such beautiful souls out there makes me feel that this is a wonderful and amazing world. Glad it helped, I’d recommend getting the steering lock mechanism replaced soon tho because it will continue to happen unfortunately. It’s a fairly cheap part tho, I believe $90-$110 or so

you just saved me!!!, 3 taps and it started, i was far away from home.2009 nissan altima. So, there's a little spinning motor in there that turns a wheel and i'm guessing it gets stuck, tapping released it. Also noticed, shut engine off and listen when you open the door, you can hear the little motor thing spinning, locking. i hope there is a recall and plan to look into it.THANK YOU!!!

This did not work for me. I had to get it swapped at the dealership but able to get the recall part. I paid 367. The best thing for people to do its report it so there can be a recall or service campaign. There is one right now but it is only for a select few. Report it to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration that is the only way you can get reimbursed or get it swapped for free. The NHTSA will notify Nissan to do a service recall or service campaign announcement.

That's a quick fix just for a few but eventually your gonna have to get it done. What I Did when mine went out got on eBay and with some luck I got that part for $ 120.00 and I installed in myself it is very simple just two screws. I recommend you start getting it before you get stranded and just have it ready. But yeah 2007 to 2012 nissan Altima are a pain in the ads with that part. Peace

actually, nissan sent me a letter not to long after I posted this about a recall on the part, i brought my car in and they installed it free of charge, it even said that if you fixed it before getting the recall you could show them and they'd refund it, so if you have your receipt you may want to look into that homie!

This worked for me as well. Had I not sheared a bolt near my battery's positive terminal that keeps the starter wire connected to the battery, I would have been able to drive out of the lot. People, this thing WORKS.

those steering locking system result in a lot of folks stuck . fortunately they can be easy to diagnose along with the enhanced part is not high priced . I have a do it yourself on it over at my channel also .

I have a 2007 nissan altima , Thursday I ran out of gas, so I went to the gas station, bought a gas can put 10 dollars in it and then I tried to start it still wouldn't start it would only go to the accessories and on position but wouldn't start..i went to autozone and bought some jumper cables but that didn't work either...its displaying a yellow key sign while it's off could it be the steering lock module? I switched the brake light switch already and I tried to bang on it already didn't work any ideas what it could be?

Tysheem Jones is it turning over at all? (Like trying to crank but won’t get all the way there) if you run out of gas leave it in accessory mode for a while, newer cars have electric fuel pumps and once you run the dry it sometimes takes a while for the fuel to run through the line, but it may be the steering lock mechanism with those symptoms so if what I said first doesn’t work then just try to keep banging for a bit, it takes a few tries sometimes.

Tysheem Jones if you can change modes it’s not the steering lock, id recommend leaving it in acc mode for a while to let that fuel pump do its thing & last time mine ran out of gas my battery needed a jump as well, so I’d try those 2 things.

It ran for a while without problems, only ever happened again a few times, but then nissan recalled the part and I ended up taking it to have it replaced for free. This was years ago tho, and I updated the description to make people aware of the recall as best I could.

Chardae B i know Ive heard recalls referred to as “open recall” & I made this video in 2017, so maybe the recall is closed by now, I’m not really sure tho, if you type in “open Nissan recalls” on google it’ll take you to the Nissan website & you can type in your vin & see for sure for yourself.

I had the same steering lock wheel locked even though the wheel didn't lock even when turning 180° in both directioms when car was off, the solution that made it work was reseting the computer system by unpluging the battery for 5 minutes and pluging it back, hope this helps.
