@johnrucumbine8363 Great, you've worked out the ethnicity of the owners of 70+K companies and 200+K businesses. Who do you think owns companies such as Dolla Financial, Novamed, Knutsford Court Hotel (now Summit Hotel), Medical Associates Hospital, Barita, Mailpac, Restaurants of Jamaica, Norbrook Equity Partners (owns and operates 14 companies in Jamaica, West Africa and USA), Eden Gardens Group of Companies, Astronomical Holdings, Bailey's Choice Homes, 876 Solutions, Think Interactive, Negril Tree House Resort, Travellers Beach Resort, Walkerswood, Wallenford Blue Mountain Coffee, Jamaica Valley, and I could go on and on. They're all owned by "Afro-Jamaicans". Let's not forget Kadeen Mairs, one of he youngest self-made billionaires, and Dr Trisha Bailey, the wealthiest Afro-Jamaican woman. All with several enterprises that provides jobs for thousands of Jamaicans. Scotiabank is not owned by a single entity, and is a part of the Canadian multinational banking group with 593 institutional owners and shareholders, so it's neither a standalone company for it to have Jamaican owners. What we do have is Michael Lee Chin, owner of the largest bank in Jamaica, NCB. Yes, he's included because both his parents are Afro-Jamaican and Chinese mix. Red Stripe is a quintessentially Jamaican company founded in Jamaica, and Heineken now has the majority shares, but it is still a Jamaican company, regardless of who owns it, same for Carib Cement. With the exception of the government, conglomerates in Jamaica might be the single largest single employers by sector, but they aren't overall. This from the Ministry of Industry, Investment & Commerce: "The micro, small and medium-size enterprise sector is by far the primary engine of growth and development in the Jamaican economy. The sector accounts for 80% of jobs in the Jamaican economy and contribute significantly to GDP, employment and wealth creation, poverty alleviation, female employment and social stability". Of this 80%, Afro-Jamaican women accounts for 35% of the jobs in the country. Globally, micro and small businesses are the engines of economies, regardless of the country. There's a place in the economy for everyone, big and small, whether the big conglomerates are owned by a single non-Afro-Jamaican or hundreds of Shareholders, or smaller enterprises that makes up the bulk of companies and businesses in Jamaica that are owned by Afro-Jamaicans, even the man with his small hardware store down the street that employs six people, or the businesses that my family and extended family runs. They are the backbone of the Jamaican economy.

It’s good when businesses open up in areas to make it more convenient for patrons. However I am aware that some businesses open up and price things higher than they should , which forces some people to buy because they will find it difficult to go to other farther locations. Without having to name particular race of people who do this…I think you can figure it out 😒

There should be no toll on this bypass road. The need for a bypass road to handle the traffic mess in Montego Bay is way overdue, but not going to improve the situation if a large majority of motorists find it an expensive alternate route. It will just be underused and the traffic mess continue. So much tax revenue is sent from the region to the central government that the cost and maintenance of this project should not be a problem. It just underscores the crippling effect the central government has on the need to progress in other areas of Jamaica.
@BrownBossJaTours
@BrownBossJaTours 4 күн бұрын
I agree with you, for this significant change in Jamaica and long overdue bypass road, if they add the tolls and it is too expensive, you would fine that people will rarely use it and just take the old route. Everytime I am hearing that there will be a toll and the other time they be saying that there will be no toll plaza. We will eventually see when it is completed.
