Pushing one more time at C13 at 17:30 seems suspect to me. Of course, I guess, on balance, 3rd line territory and 4th line influence are about equal for walls, but when the opponent can have so many more than 2 lines of almost-territory opposite as in this case with 1 more move it seems like a bad exchange. What am I missing?
@KaninTuzi4 күн бұрын
The idea for me is to set the shape there territory-wise (in a profitable manner) and then use the new information of his outside shape to choose which move to invade/reduce with. It was not a bad way to play, but I shouldn't have wedged directly after, as that was actually gote. However, foregoing the exchange as you suggest is also not a bad way to play!

Wouldn't this result in a big eye after you block at T3? Usually a big eye means lots of liberties. But perhaps it's not enough in this case?
@KaninTuzi3 күн бұрын
@@GoHermit I think you will find that the eye is not that big after black crawls to S2 (white would collapse). Instead, white would have to answer T2 with S2 and the final result will be a seki (which I couldn't read clearly during byo-yomi). Comparatively it's a bit worse than just playing S2 right away as white.

As I see it, one of the great pedagogical strengths of Mr Tall's streams is that he is so transparent with his thought process, warts and all. Go being such an elusive game, it is both refreshing and, I think, very instructive to see in practice how hard it is to decide on where to put that darn stone, even for such a strong player.

If we are getting really serious about feedback here, I would also add that the green dots positive feedback of the reviews is so obvious it has very little value. The negative feedback red dots are usually extremely helpful but on occasion show what AI considers a good move although The moves in question are completely beyond my level of understanding. I have no idea why I should play such complex and random moves.😢
@stephenbrivati323315 күн бұрын
My suggestion is that if you have tried unsuccessfully to complete an endgame puzzle 10 times then you have the option of being given the first two moves. However, if you take that option the computer will automatically add one more endgame puzzle onto your tasks to complete.

I agree with you 100 percent. The end games can be killers while the opening is a doodle. I also feel I am not learning by just having as puzzle marked wrong. that is the major weakness of an otherwise superb system. I still wish Kanin wasn’t giving away puzzles I paid money for though :)

@@KaninTuzi Unless there are really few problems on that pay-site, I cannot see how you solving some of them here would be a problem -- the viewer who sees you doing them AND can remember the correct solution, or even that the shape in question has a certain status, should be happy regardless (and certainly the sponsor likes you showing the site). That said, when the topic is up, I might suggest going straight into playing (and analysing) in the streams. That's where your excellent ability to play and explain your thought process on the go really, really shines! I understand your need for warm-ups, and I DEFINITELY admire your willingness to do them in front of your viewers (I would not do it even if you gave me money for it), but enjoyment-wise, my 2 cents would be to start the stream post-tsumego. Obviously, this is merely an aesthetical point here on YT, since one can just forward to the "Start the Game"-shout out (although it might make a difference for new viewers), but it does make some difference for us who also love joining you on twitter when we can. Obviously this is just my 2 cents, though, and in any case, I think you are doing the go community such a service with your streams that if you really prefer to warm-up while streaming, then heck, go for it (no pun intended)!
@stephenbrivati323314 күн бұрын
Your kidding. Every word of the great Mr Tall is indelibly etched on my brain (except the Chinese.) Your point is well taken about whether or not someone is really going to remember that much. It just doesn’t feel quite right that a service I pay quite a lot of money for should suddenly become freely available on a site every week. A few weeks back I got so frustrated with one of HJJ’s endgame puzzles I posted it on a discussion forum . That felt like a really hard decision since the work is the property of HJJ. For a so called ‘beginner’ problem it generated pages of the most complex math discussion I have ever seen in regard to this Go. Anyway, I hope Mr Tall does go back to the old puzzles but I certainly aren’t accusing him of doing anything unethical. It seems we just live in an age where information gets passed around without much thought behind the work at times.

With situations like the O13 elephant eye, AI usually recommends not directly connecting but playing some very far move off to one side, preventing a potential disadvantage from the fight that ensues if opponent splits your groups. Here too, it recommended J3 instead of S8 - big move, big strategic value.
