I haven't seen you fill any dents or low points in any of the guitars you have refinished. How do you get around that? Is that something that shows up when you do the clear coat? I'm asking because I stripped the finish off my guitar and in doing so left some dents. No matter how many times I go over the guitar with wood filler I end up seeing some spots after putting on that first layer of paint.
@TomPetersonRefuseReuse

@@josephpacilio759 I never completely strip a guitar, it's actually counterproductive. If I have filled dents I use auto body filler, but I don't like that, because it smells bad/toxic.

@@vicshepherd7142 thanks, I'm stuck right now trying to get motivated to finish patching the fenders. I just have a lot of other things going on, and I'm no good at bodywork. Good thing I'm going for a patina/rat rod look. If I did it again, I'd find a closer match, but then I wouldn't have any project, because I can't afford to be picky.

where do you store the neck when you do stuff like this? it seems like to me that this process would take long enough for something slight to happen to the neck while detached for that long if stored improperly but maybe im being overly cautious [great video btw!!]

Your spray can technique seems a bit off. I'd suggest that you end your strokes outside of the body to prevent "splatter" from the can to land on the body. Also I think you are too rushed. Slower and "full" strokes is better. Anyway, the result seems to be ok, so don't mind my opinion...

I’m doing exactly the same thing recently. And I was good friends with Ed, but until now, I refused to copy any guitar to look like his. But I recently found older pieces for a suitable project, and the neck is an incredibly great Kramer, exactly as he has often used. I know because I’ve played five of his guitars. Rest in peace, Ed. 😢

@@sherwintaylor1165 I shouldn't even bother, but, I just googled playing cards. Dollar General has a deck for $1. I didn't buy this deck though, I found them in the garbage in a magic set. What's the alternative to $1 cards? How about tape? Tape costs money, and would take 10 times longer, and wouldn't turn out half as clean. You could also pay someone $20 per tire to dismount, mount and balance.

@@MiguelMitchelMichiel I think sanding between is a waste of time, I try to do the most efficient way, more steps can get people frustrated and more chances for mistakes. I would only sand extra, if there was a problem or issue that I saw. Let me know how it works out.

You only need to leave nitrocellulose piant and lacquer to cure for a couple of weeks. When using rattle cans always give them a good shake for the recommended time, and always spray at the recommended distance as the heavier particles of paint and splatter will fall away from your body as long as it is hanging in the vertical position, you will have less sanding to do! I go over the body with a tack cloth after I have finished wet sanding the paint and after flatting down the clear coat, it just gets rid of any particles of the sand. A foam drill pad for the polishing is a valuable tool, polishing by hand is very hard work.
