This was rough to watch, just because you can make this a lot easier to play and sound way better by using open G tuning and a $10 slide. Here's the video I watched to learn. kzbin.info/www/bejne/moSTqIJ8j85rh9ksi=W7pF9rJpGm_w58Cd

Awesome song. Had the same problem with tabs learning Wings of a butterfly. All were technically correct. One in a different key. The other two just used different positions

Truthfully, it's because I'm a n00b, and when I find a setting I like, I'm reluctant to play with it too much. 😂 However, I will add that whoever modded the guitar before I bought it, didn't hook up the switch right. It has 5 positions, two of which don't work, and the others feel off. I keep meaning to take it in one of these days but never get around to it.

I so admire your attitude. Dude I would jam with you anytime. Easy but recognizable riffs N.I.B. Black Sabbath Enter sandman or seek and destroy Poison. Alice Cooper These riffs do go slightly beyond power chords. Yet they helped me Somehow I think you already know them lol

Thanks so much!! I really appreciate you taking the time to leave both the humbling compliment and excellent suggestions! I know the riff to Iron Man (who doesn't lol), but I never have looked into N.I.B. I'll check it out asap. Seek & Destroy is fantastic stuff! I thought about it but there are a lot of different parts in that 7 minute song. I didn't know where to start or how long a video people would sit through. lol Believe it or not, I haven't tried Enter Sandman. It's added to my soon to learn list. And Poison by Alice Cooper - Hell yeah, I know that one! Thanks for the awesome reminder! Added to the short list.

Couple tips: you can just "walk" your way up the neck.. E, G, A, B... one form, only the E has open strings.. and 2, tune your guitar before making a video 😅 always tune UP to pitch, never down, especially with a "Les Paul"..
@TheStrugglingGuitarist
@TheStrugglingGuitarist Ай бұрын
Excellent tip about walking up the fret! I'm still enough of a beginner that often I'm so caught up in just memorizing, and not analyzing. Good call. And LOL, I know. <Sigh> The tuning was not great. I originally did tune, but flailed away on it long enough to knock it out. 😂 Tuning properly is still a weakness I need to work on. I appreciate the tip on "tuning up"! 🤘

@@TheStrugglingGuitarist So, I did watch it. I have been "working on" this riff for a month or so and your video helped me realize that I had been playing it wrong. Haha. I knew something sounded wrong about it. How long have you been learning? I've been... "learning" for 15 years or so, but I have gotten nowhere because I keep getting frustrated and quitting. I also took about 7 years off when I went to college and it consumed my life.

Whoops, somehow I missed your reply. Sorry about that! Yeah, that's the cool and often super frustrating thing. There are usually a ton of different interpretations of a song, and often I need to find the right one to make it click or else I've been known to spin my wheels. Glad my video helped! I've been playing for 4-5 years and I've definitely stalled a few times. I don't know how it works for you, but I found that when I have a teacher, I feel the urge to practice "for them" as much as myself, so as not make an ass out of myself. (Which of course still happens. 😂 )
