Great tutorial thanks ,very good camera work and very clearly explained , I liked the slowed down filming ,it made the positioning of the hands and fingers clear . Many thanks for this 😂

One of the best drum tips in KZbin! I think that doing it in front of a mirror amplifies its effect because you begin to notice inequalities between both hands more easily. Thanks a lot!

Dude, the postural advice is awesome. You're giving literally the exact same pointers that have to be given in athletics about shoulder safety - shoulders back and down with chest out and up. And this was ten years ago! Props to you especially for that.
@MP-db9sw8 ай бұрын
Great visual demo/explanation of the technique. Love that you point out the butt end of the stick.
@MP-db9sw8 ай бұрын
I like that you have two camera angles. That's helpful and sadly absent in many of these kinds of tutorials.
@MP-db9sw8 ай бұрын
From an athletic perspective, that learning technique you're explaining requires extreme pronation, which definitely carries high risk of injury over time. Good for you for addressing that.
@MP-db9sw8 ай бұрын
Gonna comment as I watch so will maybe make tons of individual comments. Sorry for the mess but the upside is that it helps with the algorithm - I think. Anyway, it's great that you're highlighting the risk for injury. That alone gives a bit of quality to the video that many other videos don't have. And while I ENJOY learning history and appreciate the dive, the idea that anyone has to earn the right to use a technique or especially to learn to do it safely by learning the history is...snobbish

Hearing my high school buddy kill a freestyle drum solo in band classs one day was one of the coolest memories i have from high school and i wanted to be a drummer at that moment. I quit as life takes over when u get older and i jst inherited a used set from my best friend and am rediscovering one of my first passions.

This is about my 7th or 8th throne height video I'm watching (just putting together my 2nd kit (1st was a starter kit like 15 years ago (when YT wasn't as big) that I barely played)), and while all have been helpful, this simple flexing of the toes to lift the ankle made me realize I was sitting just a couple inches too low.

I started playing drums just because my friend played guitar and I wanted to start a rock band with him. So for me, I’ve always been about the music and the group effort

So this is my first time seeing your channel and this video. Man! I'm breaking down right now crying (for real) because I'm there in that dark spot in life, drumming and who I am. Thank you so much for this reality check. I'm 43 and raising 3 kids alone, I've been playing drums for 21 years now and love it so much, but all the life nose and expectations else where is eating me alive haven't play in about a year. I needed to see this video and pay attention because the universe said so. How I found this video Idk, but thank you so much. Thank you. Drums are spiritual.

Without any doubt, this really is an excellent teacher, very detailed when explaining the motions. Having the camera showing the foot and how this is related to the count is the best approach I ever seen. Thank you so much for this video

Your insight about distractions, depression, and conflicts, internally and externally, are very enlightening with regards to faltering in a creative sense. I think a lot of frustration from my own perspective is that these challenges have often led to drumming as a useful outlet - but over the years, when becoming more clinical and myopic towards improvement, it seems like a certain lesson comes up. That frustration, and pain, requires tending to at the root of the problem. That even an outlet, can only be temporary relief from the greater issue. And that the fruit it bears, can even be harmful when it feels liberating. I’m trying to appreciate the challenges presented, but I do admit that the idea that being a drummer as a sole identity is quite misguided. We are so multi-faceted, and inspiration comes from that which we cannot see. Just like the harvest determines the crop, which precedes the cook (regardless of their skills), our surroundings can stall our abilities. Hell, this is even possibly represented by the law of averages. That said - I’m rambling, but wanted to say thanks for the light you’ve brought. Hope you’re managing your best in this wild world, and that we can at least remind ourselves that we are drummers behind the kit, or not!

This is confusing, I've been taught that the flat foot technique is heel up with the foot always parallel to the ground and the toes always in contact with the pedal, resulting in a full leg motion. This is not the first time I see an old video where technique names mean something different than they do now
@paulbukkens37732 жыл бұрын
That is very eloquently put. Thank you very much.

I quit playing when my dad died in 2019, for me was one of my greatest musical influences, he sang like Jim Morrison and could play drums too, and introduced me to lots of great music, like the beatles, zeppelin, the doors, and a lot of great music. A couple months later, a good friend of mine, invited me to play with him again in a Pink floyd tribute band. sometimes, i feel very sad when i sit on my drums, because some songs remind me a lot of my dad, (the last gig he saw me, was with this Pink Floyd tribute, and man, he hated pink floyd...) but I learned to channel that feeling, and now i learned to get a lot of strenght and feeling from that. Now i'm motivated to play in some tribute bands and i'm studying a lot of bonhanisms. I just wish my dad could see my evolved self. So no, if you're born a drummer, and the beating of your heart belong to your drums, please don't stop playing. It'll kill your soul slowly.
