I love this stuff it’s fascinating. We used to race our cars down the runway of RAF West Malling/ Kings Hill before they they dug it all up and put a housing estate on it. The control tower is still there and some of the offices and that’s it. The Beatles recorded their Magical Mystery Tour there as well

Oh Will the old cinema in Portsmouth I got to see broke my heart it felt so odd. I used to live in chafford hundred my neighbour was area manager for the cinema on the far side of lakeside, this was back in 98 so id imaging lakeside and Bluewater destroyed so much of the normal retail back then 😢

Great video Will, shame to see yet another piece of history being consigned to so called progress. We lost our cinema back in the mid 80's, left derelict until around 2016 when it was converted into a Wetherspoons .

Really sad to see it go, as I have seen so many films there. The first film I saw was Star Trek VI : The Undiscovery Country in 1992. The main screen has some nice art deco interior with those chandelier style lights and a pretty big screen. I did notice that the interior was a bit grotty in places, bits of damp here and there - some of screen one's interior did look like it needs some TLC, the men's toilets for screen one were also not in great shape - which was strange as screen two's one were actually quite nice and modern looking. The exterior also looked like it needed some work on it. After this got used as V centre, I think there were problems with the roof - and then Odeon took the decision to close it down, probably as a result of the lockdown. Then there's the fire. It's interesting that there was still a film projector and film platter in screen two. I think the film projector got taken away to some film museum now. I can't see it coming back as a cinema, as Canterbury has three cinemas now : 2 Curzons and one small arthouse one up at the university. I suspect it will get demolished and turned into housing.
